4.5Baltimore Museum of Art(825 reviews) - A fabulous Art Museum- and Free! Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Art Museums
Over 100 years ago, The Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) was founded on the belief that access to art and ideas is integral to a vibrant and healthy civic life. This belief is at the heart of the BMA and remains our core value. The BMA has long focused on acquiring the art of the present moment, while maintaining and deepening a historic collection made relevant through vigorous development and reinterpretation in all collecting areas. Through the courageous and risk-taking vision of previous Museum leaders, the BMA assembled and presented one of the most important collections of 18th-, 19th-, and 20th-century art in the United States. These visionary actions established the fundamental character of this Museum. Building on this legacy of excellence, the BMA will form an equally compelling collection for the 21st century. 4.5Burnside's Bridge(246 reviews) - The key bridge on “The Bloodiest Day.” Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
After first reading about the Battle of Antietam way back in 1985 as a mere 10 y/o lad, it was so great to finally see the iconic bridge it up close and personal. I hasten to add that I had an amazing tour guide by the name of Justin Mayhue, a retired Fire Chief who personally knows/knew American Civil War authors such as Perry Jamieson (author of “Attack and Die”) and the late Joseph L. Harsh (“Taken at the Flood”). Justin has an incredible wealth of knowledge!See more..
4.0Adventure Park USA(152 reviews) - Fun For All Ages Saturday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Game & Entertainment Centers
Since the summer of 2005 when Adventure Park USA opened, guests have been raving about this exciting family entertainment center. Adventure Park USA is a 17.5 acre Western theme park featuring a 22,000 square foot building to accommodate indoor as well as outdoor adventures. The park's western theme infiltrates all of the store fronts, mini golf courses, laser tag, and thrilling roller coasters. Owner Larry Stottlemyer opened the state-of-the-art facility with hopes of becoming one of the best amusement parks in the area, something he has definitely accomplished. Mr. Stottlemyer previously owned and operated the Putt-Putt attraction in Frederick, a local favorite. He accomplished extraordinary amounts with this previous franchise, hosting an arcade, a roller coaster, 2 miniature golf courses, concessions, water wars, parking, and laser tag all on only 1.7 acres of land. Despite the abundance of attractions currently available at Adventure Park USA, the park is rapidly growing.See more..

3.0Maryland House Travel Plaza(80 reviews) - Mostly Closed at 10pm on Thursday Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
All the restaurants were closed when I stopped in on my way to DC. Had to settle for either an expensive sandwich or assorted super-expensive chips, energy bars or the like. I found some ridiculous candy confection for under $3. The cashier was a super friendly young woman just starting her night shift. She was in excellent spirits for someone facing an entire night in such a bleak environment.See more..
4.5Choptank River Lighthouse(74 reviews) - Great lighthouse and row of houses next to lighthouse Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
It was great to park the car in the street with row of houses, really elegant and charming houses with big church at one end and lighthouse on the other end. It was great view, and going up the lighthouse was great, they had miniature replica of the lighthouse in the lighthouse museum along with other cool stuff. Really enjoyed the lighthouse visit, church and the row of houses, highly recommend it!!!See more..
4.5Gambrill State Park(69 reviews) - Mini Camper Cabin Points of Interest & Landmarks • Parks
I rented one of the mini camper cabins for two nights (Fri and Sat). Very simple set up. Two beds, one bunk, one double. Stayed with my husband and brother as we were in town for a wedding nearby. The sites are clean and so are the bathrooms. When you get there, go to the bathroom area to sign in. The host's site is right next to the bathroom (#28). He will give you the lock combo for the cabin and you can also buy firewood from him. I reserved online, which was very quick and easy. Any cooking is to be done outside of the cabin. They have a fire ring, picnic table and lantern post. It was a nice campground, no hassles from anyone (host, rangers, etc.). Alcohol is prohibited, so if you plan to imbibe, keep it on the downlow and use a Solo cup or other container. I would definitely go back to see more of the park.See more..
4.5Carroll Arts Center(59 reviews) - Great place for exhibits and movies Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Carroll Arts Center plays a valuable role in the community featuring art work and entertainment for the family. From the Peep Show to exhibits of paintings, photography, quilts, different music venues and classes, it certainly deserves our support. There's always something of quality going on! See more..
This needs to be said, since this is a four lane pkwy, i.e., two lanes north, a median and two lanes south...PEOPLE...please stop riding side by side with cars in the next lane and you have plenty of space ahead of you. if you are sightseeing, stay to the right. I only say this because further up the parkway is an airport. Stop holding people up, who are possibly trying to catch a flight. For the smart allecks out there who are saying, they should've left earlier, yeah, they typically do. But because it is two lanes in one direction, there is always bound to be an accident. There are also deer heavily on the road and traffic entering/exiting. Just be mindful and not purposely getting in someone's way. It doesn't expand into three lanes until Arundel Mills. This can be a really long drive during a short span of miles. BE CONSIDERATE.See more..
4.5Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse(51 reviews) - Beautiful, unique, and a screwpile Saturday: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse is the last surviving screwpile lighthouse in it's original location and still being used as a navigational beacon on the Chesapeake Bay. Built in 1875, it is a National Historic Landmark. It is owned by the City of Annapolis and managed by the United States Lighthouse Society. Public tours are provided on most Saturdays during the season (June until October). The 30 minute boat ride takes guests to the lighthouse where trained docents explain the history and significance of the lighthouse. The lighthouse has undergone a complete restoration over the past 15 years and is truly a very special place to visit.See more..
4.5Cove Point Lighthouse(41 reviews) - Better than Expected! Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lighthouses
What a nice surprise! We rented one half of the light house keeper's home. Though original, it is thoroughly updated with bathrooms on each floor, air conditioning, and modern kitchen. When rented, the property is closed to visitors. We had easy access to the beach and spent much time searching and finding sharks teeth. Shopping for food and necessities was a short, quick drive. We visited the Annmarie Sculpture Museum and Marine Museum, each a reasonable drive from the house. We watched tankers dock with the help of tugs offshore. We received quick responses via texts and phone calls for questions while there. We will be booking again.See more..
The entire Tubman Underground Railroad trail is a must. There's not a lot to see. But there is a tremendous amount to think about. Courage, vision, etc. What this woman did was just incredible. It's part of our nation's history that needs to be studied and publicized more.See more..
3.5Ocean City Golf & Yacht Club(37 reviews) - 2 18 hole courses to suit your playing preference Saturday: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Golf Courses
Played Seaside 4/27/21. Course was well manicured and the greens were about 2 weeks post aerification. Seaside is the oldest course of the Eastern Shore (built 1959) and is a traditional (some think boring) style course. I would recommend Seaside if you are looking to play a traditional style course and Newport Bay if you are looking for more resort style course. Pace of play was good and food / beverage is available at the clubhouse.See more..

3.5Moll Dyer Rock(27 reviews) - So it's a rock Points of Interest & Landmarks
Yep, it's a rock. It's got a cool story attached to it, but strangely there's no plaque or anything nearby to tell the story. Anyway apparently some girl who was accused of being a witch died on this rock. Yea, it's a little dark. But it's a rock. Probably as authentic as Plymouth Rock. Still, kind of a neat little tourist trap for a small town.See more..
4.5Mount Harmon Plantation(25 reviews) - Beautiful grounds to explore as well as a house tour. Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.5Roddy Road Covered Bridge(25 reviews) - 160+ year old bridge is well maintained Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
Roddy Road Covered Bridge is part of Roddy Road Park near Thurmont. The Bridge is functional and well maintained by the county parks and recreation department, and like others around the county and state, painted barn red. The park itself is small and runs along the fast flowing creek. There are both pavilion and open air space for picnicking. The bridge, which crosses Owen's Creek east of Thurmont, was built between 1850 and 1860. We enjoyed seeing this bridge as one of several we visited in the county. See more..
3.0Frostburg Depot(20 reviews) - Friendly staff and a cool gift shop Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks

This is the real deal. You get to go inside and see how the tollkeeper's family lived. On the outside you can see the tolls listed for the 1st National road west. If you get to upstairs to the bedroom you can actually see how the tollkeeper could get up at night and tell from which direction the travelers were coming.See more..
The value of going the extra mile to visit this site is the perspective it gives as to the size of what happened at Antietam Creek; that the battle lines stretched 10 miles - 10 miles - and that there were 115,00 to 120,000 soldiers here of which 22,700 to 25,000 were casualties. The vastness of it stymies the imagination - in the modern era, only D-Day compares in size with 160,000 men involved.See more..
4.5The Kennedy Farm(15 reviews) - Off the Beaten Path Saturday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
This was off the beaten path and didn't look like very many people visited. It was well preserved and a great find for the Civil War buff. I only wish we could get to the big rock in the yard to read the bronze plate inscription.See more..
4.5Lockhouse 28(14 reviews) - Perfect getaway with girlfriends Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Completed in 1837, Lockhouse 28 stands as a reminder of the fierce competition between the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad in the race to reach the Ohio River Valley. Today, Lockhouse 28 is a rustic retreat, situated between the scenic Potomac and the still-active railroad tracks. It is the most remote of the Canal Quarters lockhouses, located nearly 1/2 mile from the nearest parking area. Lockhouse 28 is rustic with no running water or electricity.See more..
We've been going to these annual games in Fair Hill, MD for many years. It's not like a Renaissance Fair or a carnival. You can sit in the stands and watch the hammer throw, sheaf toss, etc. Many of the competitors return year after year, so it's fun to cheer on your favorite. You can walk around and watch the pipers play in front of judges, listen to live entertainment, or watch sheep get herded by dogs. It's pretty much the same vendors and events every year, so some of my family are bored with it and don't go back anymore. Even though there are beer trucks, it's a calm atmosphere, family oriented. Some kids may find it boring as there isn't a lot for them to do.See more..
4.5Tudor Hall(13 reviews) - The Booth family 'farm' Points of Interest & Landmarks
A little over 8 acres of land remain of the large undeveloped track of land that Junius Booth, the founding father of the American branch of the family, acquired 200 years ago to provide a summer country escape for his growing family from the Baltimore town house. The original home was a log house bought from someone nearby and rolled to the property on greased logs, according to our very knowledgeable host today. The present home was built during the late 1850s and stayed in the family for nearly 100 years thereafter. I recall it being a private home some time ago, but fortunately Harford County acquired the property in 2006, and now the home functions as a museum that shares the life and times if famous and notorious family members. The home and grounds are impeccably well maintained. I look forward to attending some of the upcoming lectures.See more..
4.0Laurel MARC Station(13 reviews) - Quaint but fully functional train station Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
It looks like the quaint little train station from yester-year, but don't be fooled: this is a busy MARC train station Monday through Friday, mornings and late afternoons. THe surrounding parking lots quickly fill with commuters on their way to Union Station in DC or the train station in Baltimore. The local community was very vocal when developers tried to suggest closing it down in favor of a station slightly further north in Howard County, as part of a proposed development. You'll board the train from ground level, so wheelchair users should talk to the ticket agent about how they'll be accomodated.See more..

4.0Confederate Memorial Park(10 reviews) - Excellent Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
True History, to teach people the war wasn’t over slavery. Maryland was under Marshall Law! Professors should go back to school and do a timeline and stop indoctrinating children and travel sites on their opinions. The Federal Government paid Maryland slave owners for their slaves to fight for the Union and Maryland Slave owners had to prove to the Federal government the slaves were their Property. Look up primary information. The Union fought to preserve the Union Not to end Slavery!See more..

The memorial is located on a small point near the Concord Lighthouse, but is not obvious from the road. The matching black benches and well maintained gardens add to the beauty and serenity of the site.See more..

The church is a hidden gem, just off US 50, and down the road from the remains of the historic Wye Oak. We were very fortunate to run into Don who is a church warden. He gave us an impromptu tour, and opened the church for us. It is a classic example of an 18th century Anglican church with pew boxes and raised center pulpit. The exterior brickwork is an excellent example of Flemish bond brickwork. Don told us the church had fallen into disrepair, but was saved by a local parishioner in the late 40s. He undertook funding for needed repairs, and assisted with other aspects of restoration to period condition. Very impressive! They are in the process of adding informational signs that will permit visitors to take a self-guided tour. The church will celebrate 300 years this fall!!See more..
The Waterman's Monument was draped in Christmas lights for the occasion, but somewhat overshadowed by two huge "Christmas trees" made out of bushel baskets. The location is right within a marina and a cluster of high-end seafood places, so appropriate. In all, a fine place for a cool monument. See more..
3.5Point Lookout Confederate Cemetery(9 reviews) - Memorial to thousands of confederate soldiers starved to death in Union prison camp. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries

4.5Daniels Ghost Town(9 reviews) - A walk back in time! Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Ghost Towns
WOW what a moment in time to visit here. Once a thriving mill town and now a ghost town. Only 2 partial churches still stand. There are walls where homes used to be behind. 4.0Divine's Gravesite, Prospect Hill Cemetary(8 reviews) - ...they do not minimize the adhesion to masonic ideals, even if they are a source of pride Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
I have no specific grave to visit in this cemetery. I went with the spirit of cultural anthropologist and I found myself in a completely different dimension from that of the Old Continent. A tidy, green, absolutely well cared for. I ran into me that Mrs. President briefly outlined the history and also brought me a visit. To my surprise to see so many tombs with Masonic symbols, she informed me that there are a hundred graves of Freemasons including his grandfather and a Grand Master of Maryland. I took some photos in which they do not minimize the adhesion of the deceased to such ideals, even if they are a source of pride.See more..

Our group of motorcyclists rode from Ohio to Maryland over the Labor Day weekend to visit the shrine. Helen, the curator was very excited as this group of Christian motorcyclists rolled into the parking area. The grounds were beautiful and the buildings were true to the period. We had several ministers and a DS with us and all were impressed by this visit!See more..
