  4. 4.0 Rackliff house (14 reviews)
    - Rackliffe House and all its haunts.
    Architectural Buildings
    Rackliff house image
History Alive! What an unexpected find. I wanted to get information on Assateague Island and saw the Rackliffe Plantation was open for tours. You travel down a gravel, tree- lined road to get to the plantation. Parking is easy and the house not far from the grass lot. They have handicapped accessible parking, too, if needed. The fee is $8 a person, a bargain, to learn about the family, how they lived in Pre and Post Colonial Maryland, and the almost demise of the property. Dorothy, one of the docents, could not have been nicer. She seemed to truly love being there, welcoming visitors, and teaching others. A great way to spend an hour. I highly recommend it! See more..

Riversdale, a National Historic Landmark, is a restored, five-part, stucco-covered brick plantation home built between 1801 and 1807. Construction of this elegant manor house was begun by Henri Stier, a Flemish aristocrat, and was completed by his daughter Rosalie and her husband George Calvert, grandson of the fifth Lord Baltimore. The Federal style mansion has particularly fine interior decorative detail. Numerous nationally significant figures later lived there. Riversdale was also home to the Plummer Family. The museum is open to the public for docent-guided tours and for a variety of special events. Architectural Buildings
    Bell Tower Building image
Built in the 1880's for the city Police Department and jail, the building is still in use by the Chamber of Commerce. They'' be happy to let you look around inside. City Hall is in front of the building, and to the left (facing the bell tower) the building was a court house, post office, and police headquarters. Behind the building, a short walk across Mechanic street bring you to a old Fire Company building, and a natural spring, once used to feed a mill race for "Mechanic" Street. It is now drained underground into Will's Creek. See more..
  10. 5.0 Aberdeen Heritage Walking Tour (1 review)
    - Victorian Excursion

    Aberdeen Heritage Walking Tour image
The Aberdeen Walking Tour includes a list of 34 historic sights/buildings and is associated with the Aberdeen Room Museum. Given the sub-zero weather today, I decided to see a third of the structures and save the rest for better weather. A full half of the sites are on West Bel Air Road, making it quite convenient. I parked at the old B&O Railroad Station to begin my walk. The station is fortunately being renovated as it dates from 1885 and played an important role in the canning industry as well as baseball. Across the street from the station is one of the original canning factories built in 1908, but now used for offices. Walking always fro. Downtown one finds 8 beautiful Victorian homes built between 1850 and 1920. These are all currently occupied as either residences or bed and breakfast. Am waiting for a warm spell to walk the rest of the route. See more..
  11. 5.0 Christ Episcopal Church (1 review)
    - Two Centuries of Service
Architectural Buildings • Cemeteries • Churches & Cathedrals
    Christ Episcopal Church image
Christ Episcopal Church is nestled in a little valley along Rockspring Road just south of Forest Hill. It is a classic stone building with the traditional welcoming red doors. Two centuries of existence has allowed a large cemetery to grow on both sides of the building. Age means that it is difficult to read some of the oldest headstones, but one still gets a strong sense of history on seeing the names of many well known Harford County families. Large stained glass art graces the windows. Although commercial development in the area continues, the cornfield that borders the cemetery takes one back to the rural days when the church was built.
