  2. 4.5 C&O Canal National Historical Park and Visitors Museum (193 reviews)
    - Excellent biking path with the right kind of bike
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 AM Visitor Centers
C&O Canal National Historical Park and Visitors Museum image
Biked around 8 miles out then back around Oldtown just before Memorial Day, separate review of Paw Paw tunnel area. The towpath was wet in spots and is best for a hybrid or mountain bike, though a road bike probably would be OK. Great contrast with the very smooth Great Allegheny Passage with which this trail connects in Cumberland. Interesting remnants of the canal are near the path. One section contained a series of beaver dams that kept water in the canal prism and the water was coated with green from floating algae and aquatic plants. In this verdant year everything was green including the water. There are several interesting, preserved locks along the way. Some 1800's (?) buildings near locks are also preserved. This is worth visiting for the history and the workout on foot or bike using the old towpath. Sad that the Paw Paw Tunnel work interrupts the biking flow. See more..

Ocean City Chamber of Commerce image
Although I have been vacationing in Ocean City for many years, this is still the first place I stop before checking in to my hotel. Rest rooms are very clean but my main reason for stopping is for the tremendous amount of information, brochures and coupons they have to offer. You can find coupons for everything Ocean City has to offer: restaurants, amusement parks, water sports, boardwalk activities, etc. Staff members are very pleasant and anxious to answer questions and provide information. If you want to save a little money while in OC, this is the place to go for coupons. Also, a little gem is the Sunny Days guide you can pick up here as well. Its a great guide for all that Ocean City has to offer. See more..

  24. 5.0 Wicomico County Tourist Information Center (5 reviews)
    - Better than the average visitors center.
    Visitor Centers
We checked out this location just to see what was there. They have wi fi which reaches into the parking lot which is a plus. The park offers a playground for kids. The playground equipment is the same that I played on in 1975 at the city park but is in good repair. There is a stream there that 2 wooden bridges cross one of wich is in disrepair but has the potential for good photo opportunitys. They also host a dog walking area. Inside the employees were helpful and courteous. Its a nice place to get off the road for awhile. See more..

  29. 5.0 Sparks Bank Nature Center (2 reviews)
    - Beautiful slice of nature along the river
    Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
    Sparks Bank Nature Center image
The Sparks nature Center and park are easy to locate on Sparks Road off York Road just a few miles north of Hunt Valley. The park borders the Big Gunpowder River above where it joins Loch Raven Reservoir. There is adequate parking at the old bank/nature center, and many people were seen unloading bicycles and setting off on the well maintained paths running both north and south. The path apparently follows what was once the Northern Central Railroad line. The nature center itself is only open on weekends. The old iron bridge across the river is of historical interest itself. Also there is an old elementary school along the road, and both the school and bank are made of stone. The school is over 110 years old and has not been restored since a fire 20+ years ago. The bank was building over 105 years ago. The plaque/historical market on site has not been well maintained and is difficult to read. The combination of local history and well preserved woodlands make fir an enjoyable outing. See more..

  32. 5.0 Willow Grove Nature Education Center (1 review)
    - Enjoying nature rain or shine
    Visitor Centers
Willow Grove Nature Education Center image
Willow Grove Nature Education Center hosted an event by Gilchrist to help families celebrate loved ones who had passed. The main feature was education about and the release of new butterflies and a walk on the trails around the property. Even with the rain, the setting in one of the valleys leading to Loch Raven Reservoir and the Gunpowder River, was beautiful. It was the tiny mushrooms and flowers that I remember most. Looking forward to a sunny day to explore more See more..
