I heard from co-workers some really good things about this place, when I was back in the area and had time, I stopped in on a weekday morning, soon after they opened. This reminded me of the Reading Terminal Market in Philly… it’s basically loaded with lots of vendors who offer so many styles of meats, baked goods, pickles, etc… there were a couple of kitchens, offering complete meals and they even have Amish woodsmiths selling their wares too. I was instantly very impressed and wished I would have brought a cooler with me to buy so much… The meats looked great… The handmade sausages looked amazing… The sandwich salads really made me hungry… The breads were all perfectly done and fresh, same with the pastries… I really can’t speak highly enough about this visit and hope to return soon and be able to take advantage of the amazing offerings here. This is a great place to visit when in Deep Creek Lake. Located just minutes from Wisp ski resort and the north end of the lake, Schoolhouse Earth is in Friendsville, MD. Schoolhouse Earth is a set of three small barns/buildings that offer different bits of shopping. Shop outdoor garden decor, jewelry, novelty gifts, a large array of Christmas decorations, gourmet foods, and a large home decor section. Say hello to Stephen the owner and his yellow lab, Sebastian. They are always so welcoming and it's a pleasure to take a break from the slopes and do a little shopping. Additionally, Schoolhouse Earth has a "petting zoo" in the back. I say that loosely because mainly it's a home for previously abused or handicapped animals.
