Superb hike up and back to the rocks on a cold but sunny spring day. We started on route MD 491. You can park on the side of the wide road there. The Appalachian Trail to High Rocks (white marker) starts on the side with the immediate ascent (not the side of the road with the creek). It is 2.8 miles each way - starting with a slightly steep but manageable (due to a lot of switchbacks) 0.5 miles at first, then leveling off to an easy walk to the end. Great for kids or folks who don’t usually hike a lot. Probably if going slower 3 hours round trip. Bring a lunch then go back. See more..

We really enjoyed the view from Dans Rock. We arrived around 9 am on a weekend morning and were the only ones there. The walk up is on stairs/inclines primarily made out of rocks. The viewing areas have short sets of metal stairs to climb to the platforms. There is a lot of graffiti, some with bad language. I’m really torn on if it detracts from nature or adds a different type of beauty. A little of both I’d say. Worth visiting if you are in the area. See more..
  3. 4.5 Annapolis Rock (17 reviews)

Great hike with good climb in the first 1.5 miles. There's a lot of parking, but it fills up quickly on the weekends -- get there b/f 8:30/9am to assure yourself a spot. The popular lookout is a 5-mile round trip hike ... if you extend another mile on the Appalachian Trail, you can see a (little) better overlook with fewer hikers called Black Rock (7.25m rndtrp from parking lot). Lots of dogs and kids on trail. Enjoy See more..

Found this site by chance via Google Maps when looking at sites near Harpers Ferry. You can park at the Commuter Parking lot and then follow the path and/or cross the street for the trail head. Continue up the mountain following the Appalachian Trail following the markers until you get to the directional post where you turn to the blue trail to the cliffs. Amazing views from the top of the cliffs makes the hike up the trail worth it. The trail is not difficult and not that long. Glad I went and plan to come back during the fall foliage. See more..
