  1. 4.5 Ocean City Beach (4.298 reviews)
    - Good beach

    Ocean City Beach image
A great boardwalk but a very busy one in the summer months. Stores and concession stands line the boardwalk, offering lots of options. Be sure to check out Fisher's popcorn in Thrasher's french fries, both Ocean City traditions. The Kite Loft is also a popular place. there is also sand sculptures in the summertime display in Jesus and other religious figures that are worth checking out. Street performers perform in the summer months. There's a pier beoynd the rides that provides a place to fish and view the ocean. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the amusement parks, they're to expensive and the rides aren't that great. See more..
  2. 3.5 North Beach (154 reviews)
    - Pleasant day trip from DC
    Beaches
    North Beach image
I was looking to get out of the city on a warmer-than-average winter day, and remembered North Beach in Chesapeake Beach, as I visited when I first moved to the DC area years ago, but had not been back since. It is less than an hour drive, and being winter, it was fairly easy to find a parking spot. Me and my partner had lunch at a Seafood restaurant and then we walked around the boardwalk a checked out a few of the little stores, coffee shops, etc. and bought a few things. There is a little section of beach, but again, it being winter, that was not as appealing. This is little town is certain worth a day trip from the DC metro area. See more..
  3. 3.5 Breezy Point Beach (90 reviews)
    - Great beach for a little day trip

You can't beat this little bayfront park for a one-hour trip from the northern Virginia region. Forget the bridge traffic if you're just looking for a place to lay out, take a quick dip, and relax. There is a netted swimming area, so you can't go past about 4.5' deep, but it's very refreshing and nice to not have to worry about jellyfish. There are grills, restrooms, and lots of parking. If you want to try fishing or crabbing, there is also a little pier. Make sure to pack a picnic and drinks though--there isn't much else around once you get down to the park. Admission rates are currently $10 per adult on the weekend. See more..
  4. 5.0 Assateague Island Tours (65 reviews)
    - Amazing Assateague Adventure!
    Sunday: 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM 4WD, ATV & Off-Road Tours • Beaches • Private Tours • Photography Tours
    Assateague Island Tours image
My four year old son, two of my closest girlfriends, and I had an exceptional experience with Assateague Island Tours. Our guide, Andrew, provided an unforgettable and beautiful sunset adventure, where he regaled us with colorful pony gossip, island lore, and fascinating history. It is evident that he has a great passion and respect for the island, as well as receives great joy in sharing his knowledge with others. Every detail was thoughtfully considered, and we were able to delight in a private fire and picnic, as well as a photo shoot with a band of wild ponies. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour to families, friends, couples, and anyone wanting to relax and enjoy this gorgeous nature escape. We can’t wait to return! See more..
  5. 4.0 Elms Beach Park (25 reviews)
    - A Better Bay Beach
    Beaches • Parks
    Elms Beach Park image
One of the biggest misnomers is that the Chesapeake Bay Beaches are largely inaccessible to the public. Here is public access beach that is almost as good as traveling the extra 1.5 hours to the ocean. True! Just south of PAX River NAS is county beach with almost of mile of white sand, expansive views and great swimming. Follow the main road towards Pt Lookout and look for the County Beach sign on the left. $10 for out-of-county cars but it's worth the price for solitude and relaxation. Eagles soar overhead as the boats sail by. I rate this beach higher than Flagg Pond even though its an extra half hour drive south from the DC area. See more..
  6. 4.0 Betterton Beach (21 reviews)
    - Cute spot for a quick trip
    Spent 1-2 hours Beaches
    Betterton Beach image
Came out with family because they wanted to go to a beach but not drive the 2+ hours to get to the one we like. This place is small and cute. The waves were small and the water was okay looking. The sand was rocky and twiggy and I didn’t really like that. Good place to visit if you just want to get to some water for the day. free parking and there was a lifeguard on duty. See more..
  7. 4.5 Ferry Park (17 reviews)
    - Bright, windy day, listening to the waves lap the shore
Sunday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Beaches
    Ferry Park image
Ferry Park Beach is a great resource for both community members and visitors. The relatively small strand of well maintained sand is protected by rock jetties and looks out over a wide expanse of the Chesapeake Bay. There is a board walk with seating to take in the view. A pleasant time for contemplation. See more..
  8. 4.0 Rocky Point Beach and Park (17 reviews)
    - Nice walk (stay off golf course)
    Beaches • Parks
Rocky Point Beach and Park image
The map showed walking trails from the park. We started on the golf course trail (starts right across sailing center). Unless you play golf and know when/how to dodge active players - don’t go any further. The 0.25 mile trail to golf course is your endpoint. Beyond that, nice views and serenity to be had at this park - especially weekdays. See more..

  11. 3.0 Crystal Beach (4 reviews)
    - Plenty of picnic tables and good views
    Beaches
    Crystal Beach image
Crystal Beach is located on the water below the residential area also known as Crystal Beach. The beach had plenty of white sand, but given the time of year much detritus had washed up and other trash from humans was littered about. There were many colorfully painted picnic tables with grills. In warmer weather one would hope that the authorities would ensure the area is kept clean so that swimming and boating would be pleasant. 12. 5.0 Jack Creek Park (1 review)
    - Bald eagles, turtles and water
Spent 1-2 hours Beaches • Parks • Hiking Trails
    Jack Creek Park image
Great park for a quick hike rewarded with a beautiful view of the Chesapeake Bay. A lot of bald eagles, blue herons, deep, wildflowers and even a turtle. If it has rained recently, boots are a good idea. Not sure I would come during mosquito season and I'm sure the ticks would be bad, so plan accordingly. See more..
  13. 2.0 Metapeake State Park (1 review)
    - Decent place - IF you can find parking
    Beaches • Parks
So - get there early.... parking on the beach side can run all the way down the street and to the main road. parking near the pier - good luck. bathrooms / trash cans near the fishing pier are disgusting... Now for the good part.... Long pier - friendly people on the pier. No one was catching anything when we were there, but the tides do decide. Pier definitely needs some general cleaning, and when is says 2 poles per person. Don't be 'that guy' and fish 4 or more. Just a D#@$ move. The beach is small. No current. No waves. No deep at all. Great for little kids. But the strip of sand is petite. Like super small. Like one family per section of beach front. Also, it's dog friendly, and although there is "supposed" to be a separate area for dogs. A lot of dog owners are like those fishermen who fish 4 poles at once. Still can't get how discourteous some people are. Parking: beach side free - paved. bring a wagon to cart you beach gear down. pier side - $10 IF you can find it. People: Very interesting mix Food: not that we could see Bathrooms: Go elsewhere Would recommend: Sure. go check it out Would re-patronize: Probably not. See more..
