Tourist centre located inside the michi-no-eki. Staff was very helpful in answering my questions and assisted me enrol for a dolphin watching cruise the next day. The wharf was next to michi-no-eki. However, dolphins did not show up during the cruise. Michi-no-eki has a souvenir shop selling all kinds of souvenir ranging from fruit and draft ice beer, etc.See more..

4.0Michi-no-Eki Shiretoko Rausu(200 reviews) - Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki) Shiretoko Rausu Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Visitor Centers
It has a wide range of seafoods for sale for omiyage (souvnir) from the local waters. Venders are busy offering samples to convince you to make up your minds quickly. Because this is a Roadside Station, it does have an information desk, but it's almost hidden with busy commercial activities. It also has a mandatory restaurant with a good range of local seafoods, but since it was also very busy and crowded, we opted to go somewhere else for our lunch. One serious problem at this Roadside Station is that it is way too busy with too many tourists.See more..

4.0Hakodate City Tourist Information Center(150 reviews) - Get some information before you leave the JR station Monday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
I am sure you have some questions on Hakodate in mind that you like to be answered. The staffs there were all very friendly and knowledgeable. Asked question like: City map. Major tourist spots. The best way to to up the Hakodate Mountain Bus timetable. One day pass that covers both the tram and bus etc. Recommending nearby popular seafooed / Ramen restaurant. Those answers will save you a lot of time in planning the day. I think Hakodate point of interests can be covered in 1day or at most 2 day, if you work out an efficient schedule. If you on a tight schedule, visiting the tourist information center is one thing you should do. The local staffs know the city the best, your guide book information can be outdated.See more..
4.0Shikotsuko Visitor Center(145 reviews) - Shikotsuko Visitor Center Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Visitor Centers
The Shikotsuko Visitor Center is absolutely terrific. You can get excellent tourist information about Chitose, read and see stuffed wildlife in the area and watch a very informative video about the formation of the lake. The Visitor Center is right at the lake. Somehow I had gotten the impression that it was a distance away. They also sell reasonably priced souvenirs. See more..

3.5Michi-no-Eki Wakkanai(142 reviews) - Literally, the end of the Line in northern mainland Japan Monday: 5:30 AM - 12:00 AM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
Wakkanai JR station forms part of tourist hub which is very well serviced. The bus terminal is also part of the building along with souvenir shop, conbini store and several eateries. There is one place specialising in local produce which had some great samples of local ice cream and other dairy products of which Hokkaido is very justly proud. The local tourist information desk is packed full of information and the staff there spoke excellent English and were most helpful with suggestions for easy to access walking distance features that I explored. Facilities are very clean with toilets maintained at a very high standard.See more..
4.0Michi-no-Eki Salmon Park Chitose(141 reviews) - Unexpected - very delicious meal ! Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
This is my 4th visit to Hokkaido. One of the best meals I had was surprisingly at this roadside station beside the Chitose Salmon Aquarium and Park. I had stopped by this place for lunch during my drive to Shin Chitose airport. The butadon (pork rice bowl) and the bowl of pork and leek noodle soup from the same shop was extremely good and delicious. The soup curry was fantastic as I had the option of having a tasty prawn broth soup curry. Other options I did not try were chicken or salmon broth soup curry. The ice cream shop was the most popular among the students who were visiting the aquarium. However the ice cream is ordinary, you can get much tastier vanilla soft serve ice cream at the airport or elsewhere. Unexpected find ! See more..
4.0Michi-no-Eki Nakasatsunai(135 reviews) - Nice roadside rest area Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Visitor Centers
For a roadside rest area this place is pretty nice. There are a couple of stalls selling chicken shish kebobs (yakitori) and chicken nuggets (zangi) which are pretty tasty. There are also 2 restaurants which we didn't eat at. You can also buy local products, produce, and flowers at a couple of shops there. Try the packaged Sonomama frozen green soy beans. Already cooked, you can eat them as soon as they thaw. Or warm them up in your micro-wave.See more..
3.5Michi no Eki Asashikawa(118 reviews) - easy stop for lunch Monday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Visitor Centers
We stopped by there for lunch. The place had an information center with little display, a souvenir section, AND a food court. There were just four or five counters for meals mostly ramen shops as you could guess. We tasted different ones and pretty happy with different choices of ramen there. After lunch, we walked to Ayako Miura's Museum, but it was little far. We should have taken a cab. :DSee more..

We just visited the Space Museum, sited here because of a local astronaut, and it deserves a rating of "Very Good" because of the delightful man who told us all about the space station. He reckoned his English was not good, but believe me, it was certainly better than my Japanese will ever be, and he made the visit very interesting - and fun. We shared a joke about space-chocolate and he was kind enough to give each of us a square of chocolate as we left. It was also fun to go into the blow-up dome of the night sky - we could make out much of the night sky configurations, but it was a shame that she was no English translation for this bit - although the young lady in charge was charming. Combine this visit with a trip to the Nikka Whisky Distillery, in the same town.See more..

3.5Toya Mizunoeki(97 reviews) - Friendly staff and nice udon Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers • Points of Interest & Landmarks
I was in toya town for a month. It's a nice little station by the lake. They sell lots of local fresh produce; veggies, beans n paste. You can also eat good udon and have ice cream by the lake. Good place to relax. The staff for the station was also very helpful n ensured that reservations are made for your bus booking. Good memories here! See more..
We decided to stop over at this roadside station on our way to Sapporo from Obihiro. Upon arrival, we were surprised to find that it was closed (given the GPS location) and soon realised the actual shop was just the block behind. The station housed a little supermarket and various stalls selling rock melon and other melon related foodies and merchandise relating to Rock Melon. Some of the merchandised could be found in Sapporo so you need not come here just for them. Rock Melon was in season and the famous Yubari Rock Melon certainly didn't disappoint. In fact, they were Super sweet! There were 7 of us and most went for a second piece at 300Yen each. If you have a sweet tooth, do also check out the cake shop inside the building. The Melon cake and Chocolate Anpan (Sweet Roll) were very good too.See more..
3.5Michinoeki Akantanchonosato(96 reviews) - Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki) Akan Tancho-no-sato (Field for Japanese cranes in Akan) Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Visitor Centers
As a Roadside Station, this is a super small minimalist operation. They have a small information booth, plus clean washrooms. It also accommodates a small food kiosk where they sell some drinks, ice cream and snacks, including local corns. This Roadside Station works as the gateway to Akan International Crane Centre that is a few minutes away through the Roadside Station building. There is no usual market place for local products. It is located on the other side of Highway 240 as "Akan Marche."See more..
4.0Rausu Visiter Center(95 reviews) - Informative and rewarding Visitor Centre. Monday: Visitor Centers
This visitor's centre is well set out and contains a wealth of information about the geological history and local wildlife of a region which is dominated by National Park. The staff are helpful where they can be, within the limitations imposed by language. We were the only two in the centre and one of the staff came and got us before we left and screened an English language version of a short documentary in what is a quite decent theatre area. This was one of the most informative experiences we had on the peninsula and gave a good context to what we saw during our drives and walks. We didn't see the geyser because we were very close to closing time but it would be well worth the walk if you hadn't yet seen a lot of the volcanic activity on Hokkaido. Well worth the break before heading up over the range to allow you to put what you see into context. As with many of the information centres in Hokkaido there are excellent resources provided for childrens' learning experiences.See more..
4.0Wakkanai Ferry Terminal(87 reviews) - Good experience to go to the Northmost point in Japan Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:45 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
The ferry is not that long. It is advisable to purchase the bus together with the ferry. Once the ferry disembarked, the sightseeing bus is waiting for all passenger. As it sets off at around 6 and 7 am. There is a Kiosk to provide breakfast for the travellers. During the journey, it is good to go outside to take photos of the Sea.See more..
We aimed for this Michi-no-Eki to eat Ezoshika Deer, served here as a cutlet with vegetables like pumpkin, eggplant, and shishito covered in a slightly spicy curry. Delicious. The meat was soft, with little fat, and full flavor! Very filling. We drank with the Bear Bamboo Grass Tea from this area. Notice the spoon holder in the picture. Try this curry for a Flavor of Hokkaido. As a Michi-no-Eki you can find foods, crafts, and other things from this area for sale. Everyone was friendly, and the restrooms clean.See more..

3.5Michi-no-Eki Hanayaka Koshimizu(75 reviews) - Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki) Hanayaka Koshimizu Monday: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM Visitor Centers
This is a very small Roadside Station operation without anything meaningful to offer. It comes with a few private shops in the same complex. Most interesting fact is its direct connection to JR Hamakoshimizu Station. I have never seen a Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki) being a part of a railway station.See more..

3.5Shiranuka Koitoi Michi-no-Eki(63 reviews) - Roadside Station (Michi-no-Eki) Shiranuka Kototoi-kan Monday: 9:00 AM - 6:30 PM Visitor Centers
This Roadside Station is along Highway 38 in the town of Shiranuka but away from the town centre towards Kushiro for about 10 kilometers. There isn’t really anything in the neighbourhood but some industrial operations on the north side and a beautiful stretch of sandy beach facing the Pacific Ocean. The city of Kushiro is about 30 minutes away by car. The local fishing co-op runs a seafood shop with fresh and dried fish and seaweeds. Its small restaurant operation offers a small range of dishes for snacking. It didn’t look very appealing only with a pork dish (called “Konobuta Donburi” (sliced grilled pork with sweet sauce over a bowl of rice) as its main offering.See more..
Took the ferry to and fro via Wakkanai. Different from the sea journey to Rishiri, the journey to and fro to Rebun was no short of surprises. Dolphins and hundreds of Oracs (killer whales) feeding on the abundant seafood. Videoing them might be difficult on a summer day, the wind speed was high. On a clear sky day, the view of Mt Rishiri was also spectular. If one is lucky, you can even see parhelion or 'sun dog' like I had.See more..
4.5Shiretoko Goko Park Service Center(59 reviews) - Nice walk into the natural surroundings Monday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Visitor Centers
Arriving in the summer has the benefits of clear sky and nice weather, but also got a lot of moths so it is important that you sprayed some propellant otherwise you would have a swarm around your head. We didn't have time to do the walk into the park and see all the wild animals and vegetation which is a pity. However, the boardwalk still offers a nice stroll and we were able to see the area and the five lakes. Next time I would plan for more time to go inside and would certainly recommend you to do so as well.See more..

3.5Michi no Eki Akaigawa(58 reviews) - Secret spot of nice ramen, bakery and cheap vegetable Monday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Visitor Centers
As an Akaigawa local, I always recommend that their ramen. It is so tasty, thick broth, large volume of noodles and meat, too bad the operating hour is until 4pm everyday. The bakery also simply delicious, especially the sausage bread, using the pork from Yoichi local barn named, Kitajima pork barn. Get the bread, heat it with the microwave put at beside and ENJOY it! yummy~ During the spring, summer and autumn period, the shop beside the service area will open for vegetable selling according to the harvest period. Cheap price with HUGE size of vegetables. Also they have pet land within the parking area, it's a best spot for family or pet lover.See more..
4.0Michi no Eki Aioi(52 reviews) - I was pleasantly surprised by this abandoned train station! Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
I had no idea that there was an attraction here but drove by and decided to stop and check it out. It turned out to be an abandoned train station, one of many in Hokkaido. But this one gave me a very nostalgic feeling. It's well maintained and got a small cafe next to it. At the end I bought some drip coffee packets home and they turned out to be some of the best I had ever tried in Japan. Next to the abandoned train station is a store selling Japanese produce. Could pop in too. But the main thing is the abandoned train station side which is so tranquil and nostalgic. Somehow this station made me think about life. Will come back for SURE!!!See more..
3.5Erimo Cape Sightseeing Center(50 reviews) - Seal watching - at a distance. Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Visitor Centers
A bunker like building at Cape Erimo parking area. Inside mostly in Japanese. But highlights are the 2nd floor telescope and Ustream areas where you can spy the 600-strong seal colony on the rocks off-shore, and the wind tunnel experience room with 25 m/second blasts. Kids area has a zone for making crafts out of shells, stones and seaweed. Pay the entrance price for the seal watching.See more..
