What a colorful experience! September, 3:30 in the afternoon we had a marvelous tour of the colorful, striped fields. We rode in the tractor-pulled wagons which had side covers as it had just rained. I've been here a few times and it is always worth the trip. Easy hike for some amazing views. If you can read Japanese or bring your iPhone to translate you can learn some interesting history about this area as well. The Cape is subject to high winds so if you having trouble standing up in the parking lot then skip the hike to the lighthouse or end of the cape. Very beautiful and they have closing hours that would keep you from watching a sunset in the summer. See more..

Matsumae Park contains the castle and clan temples of the Matsumae samurai clan that once administered this northernmost part of the Japanese civilisation, until complete subjugation of Hokkaido in the 19th century. Undoubtably, the best part of the Park are the temples, which, although not very old when compared to the more famous temples of Kyoto and Nara, have some of the most detailed and gorgeous carvings I've seen in my travels throughout Japan. The clan cemetery is situated among towering pine trees, giving a very atmospheric feel, and well worth a wander between the moss-covered and lichen-wrapped tombstones (some of which look modern, which may mean that the descendants are still using the site today). And of course, visiting during cherry blossom season is an added bonus. Well worth a detour if travelling through Hokkaido. See more..

We were recommended to go to this by the tourism office lady at Lake Toya. Just a few mins bus ride away so we tried it. Unfortunately we took a wrong path at the bus stop when we reached and went onto another trial which we also saw some destructions due to year 2000 Mt Usu eruption. We then went back to do this Nihiyama trail. It was the last day the trial was opened for as it closes during winter. Shops were already all closed and very few people were there. It had snowed the day before and the winds were strong up at the top. Was totally frozen but scenery was nice. Great for photos. In total, we did 1.5 hours of walking because we did 2 trails, the first was a mistake. Quite right to get a good meal in town after that followed by soaking in hot spa. See more..

This is probably the best sakura tunnel I have ever visited. It is very long and the canopies of the cherry trees are dense enough to cover the sky above so it is romantic to stroll along the path with your companion. Not only there is a ruined castle site nearby , there are also a few very scenic hanami spots around the Hokuto city which you can visit together. 行ってみました。
気温は−４度くらいでしたが霧氷は見られず
気温もそうですが空気中の水蒸気の量にも
左右されるようなので寒くてもだめみたい

国道229号線沿いの雷電温泉の近くにある、他にあまり例を見ない奇岩で、カタナカケイワと読みます。
切り立った崖の先端にあり、弁慶が近くで休息した際、岩をひねって大刀を置いたという伝説からこの名が付いたと言われています。
カスペトンネルの南側に少し旧道が残っているので、ここに停めることができますが、駐車場所には有島武郎の文学碑もありました。
以前国道229号は刀掛岩の近くを通っていましたが、落石が多いため長大な刀掛トンネルの開通により近くで見ることができなくなり、雷電温泉前からのみ見ることができます。 See more..

観光農園の夏の目玉はひまわり、圧倒的なひまわり畑を堪能して下さい。その他コスモス等も。
お勧めは"川の散策路"、草刈り整備された柔らかな道を歩き、川遊びも楽しめます。川魚もいます。
カフェでお茶を、蕎麦・うどんもあります。
