    I walked around the Government building recently. After a lot of snow, there were small paths carved out from other people around the building. I didn't enter or anything but I enjoyed viewing the exterior of the building and the park. At night, the building was lit up and looked great! The architecture is unique for Japan, so I recommend at least walking by. See more..

    If you have a great interest in this aspect of Japanese history then Abashiri prison is worth a trip. If you don't meet that requirement then this is really a waste of time for you. This is well presented but as a reconstruction it suffers from a common problem with Japanese displays - it's just too tidy. Prison was messy and dirty and evil. This place presents it as clean and tidy. The evil IS pointed out but it's just too 'Disny'esque' for the kind of evil place it was. See more..
