3.5Ken & Mary Tree(438 reviews) - Ok, not the best tree in Biei Scenic Drives
It's not my favourite tree in Biei, but it's included in most tours and it's not hard to drive to if you have your own transportation.See more..
4.0Patchwork no Michi(317 reviews) - A good drive around to catch the vibe of Biei Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Drives
Biei is best known for its Toscana-ish vibe and views. This area offers great ambiance and views, and is PERFECT for a picnic. In summer local farmers might set up fruit stalls that sell fresh fruit for reasonable prices.See more..
4.5Road to Heaven(271 reviews) - the great view at the sunset Spent < 1 hour Scenic Drives
It is good and easier to drive in Hokkaido. When you drive from Abashiri to Shari, Hokkaido, please take this long and straight road. Please make sure to take a photo the road at the sunset. Yes!!...nothing around this long road, but it is very popular among Japanese to visit and drive due to Wabisabi culture in JapanSee more..

4.5Ororon Line(106 reviews) - The flattest, straightest road you will ever see in all of Japan! Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Drives
The Ororon Line was my path from Haboro to Teshio and then from Teshio to Wakkanai. Having visited every prefecture in Japan except for Okinawa, and having bicycled the entire length of the country on this trip, I can tell you that you will not see a flatter, straighter road anywhere in Japan! It was a joy to bicycle on. The sea was right on the side most of the way, the road surface was smooth and free of potholes / ripples / side crumbles and I did not see one truck. There was one item that made the needle jump on the Improbability Meter: a tunnel in the middle of nowhere. It didn't tunnel through anything at all. Very odd. Maybe a survival spot if the winter kicks up suddenly?See more..

We begin with field birdsong in morning of Tokachi Hills. When morning positive zashitotomoni flower begins to stretch itself like a brick, Slow time begins with flavor of bread hot from the oven. Please feel time working relaxedly. Cloud floating in the heavens, refreshing wind, Everything moves slowly slowly. Leave the body to such inside. We can fully take in nature. Please have vegetables having just finished being produced on the spot. Surely it will be to be surely impressed. That's right, this is because splendid natural taste makes. We want to give impression of half-forgotten nature to many people alone. Flower and meal and theme park of agriculture, Tokachi Hills think.See more..
My personal feeling is that when you look up or look afar, it is very beautiful. The two sides of the road are filled with beautiful cherry blossoms. When you look down, there are too many vehicles parked on the two sides. There is no way for you to take a nice clean picture of just the road with cherry blossoms. The day when we got here, there was some kind of event. There were tons of "food truck like" vendors here selling grilled seafood. I had the best/largest scallop here. Best experience ever!See more..

We drove along Highway 39 from the Shiretoko area to Asahikawa, instead of the free way and had a short rest at Sekihoku Pass. At the altitude of 1,050 meters above sea level, the pass was said to be once at the highest spot among the national highways. Some 30 years ago, a viewpoint was built on the hillside and it commanded a great view of the region. However, trees have grown tall around the viewpoint and not much could be seen now. So don't bother climbing up the steps to it. There is a privately run tea house with three stuffed bears. It offers some simple meals as well as snacks and drinks. It also offers an interesting range of rocks, fossils and Ainu goods. Some Ainu goods are antiques. If you are interested in any of these, it is definitely worth stopping at this tea house at Sekihoku Pass.See more..
If the English translate is correct, this crossroad is magical! Another roller-coaster path sighting which is much better than the famed Biei Roller Coaster Path. It was a bit of an adventure and scenic along the way from Asahikawa.See more..
The parking lot is most of the way up the hill that separates the Ororon Line from Wakkanai. On the day that I bicycled here from Teshio, sea fog was hiding Rishirifuji. But it was still a pleasant view of the seacoast and the land and houses below. Few people there when I was there at mid- day, but at sunset there's a lot of activity - Rishirifuji cannot be seen from most of Wakkanai.See more..

4.0Shikotsu Lake Sky Road(9 reviews) - The Scenic and Refreshing Road between Lake Shikotsu and Chitose Scenic Drives
I drove to Lake Shikotsu from Sapporo the National Route 453. It was not bad. After spending hours around the lake, I was wondering whether I should drive to Chitose among larches or to Tomakomai among spruces, and realized I couldn't tell the difference between 2 types of pine trees. I chose to drive through larches. It wasn't a mistake at all, and above all it was a nearer route to Sapporo.See more..

National road Route 229 runs from Yoichi to Esashi. From Yoichi, it runs northwestward, and around the Shakotan Peninsula. On the east side of the peninsula, the route is called by the nickname Seta-Kamui Line. On the west side, it is called by the nickname Kabuto Line. According to a branch office of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), it has 18 tunnels between Yoichi and Michi-no-Eki Osukoi Kamoenai, and 5 more before you leave the peninsula.
