Here in Hidaka, the horse producing region, you can enjoy riding former race horses that actually competed in big-named races in central and regional racetracks. You can even request famous race horses for riding! Why don't you saddle up a thoroughbred and give it a try? The very popular Trial Trekking course is sure to make wonderful memories! Even those who have never touched a horse can enjoy horse riding in forests after practicing an easy hand rope (rein) technique. There is an indoor racetrack, too, so you can enjoy lessons even on a rainy day. See more..

This farm is located about 20 minutes drive away from Shin Chitose Airport (CTS). They provide pick-up/drop-off service to and from JR Eniwa Station which is 3 stations away from CTS JR Station). We met cute Japanese horse breed known as Dosanko and visitors can get to ride on them. Trail ride is 1 hour around the farm. They are generally loved to eat grasses on the trail, so the visitors will be advised to not to let them eat and don't let them stop. Visitors can see nice view on the horse and their unique trotting way if visitors are able to trot. You may even never notice when they canter. Transition is very smooth. They provide glove, rain boots and helmet. Priced at JPY4,000. Owner likes to talk a lot. If you know Japanese, you may caught for chit chat. Some might not like. See more..

    - Well Worth It!!

I stumbled across Frontier Riding Club during a web search, and am so happy I scheduled a ride with them! They do not speak much English, so some level of Japanese is required. One of the instructors, Aiko, knows some English, but once she found out that I live in Japan and am studying Japanese, she helped me practice by only speaking in Japanese :) She went on the trail with me, and pointed out all the flora and fauna, teaching me the Japanese names. The staff were very knowledgeable about horseback riding and horses, and the horses look healthy and well-cared for. I rode the horse named Aika (picture below), who was very calm and knew what to do, though needed a bit of encouragement to walk in the water at the beach. I chose the beach trail ride, and it was worth every yen! The scenery is breathtaking, and it was a nice long ride. All gear (boots, riding pants, helmet, vest, gloves) is provided as part of the cost of the ride, with a variety of sizes. The staff groom and tack the horses for you, while you watch and get to feed the horses carrots. There’s a short period before the trail ride where you ride in the ring, getting used to your horse and learning their commands. Even in the ring, the horses walk nose-to-tail; they are very well-trained for the trail! The bus ride out to the place is around an hour from Chuo Bus Terminal (behind the Sapporo TV Tower), making this a very easy day trip from Sapporo! I highly recommend it! See more..
