The drift ice museum consists of some exhibits, live sea creatures as well as movie theatre. But the most memorable was the ice room. Mimicking the temperature on the drift ice of - 15 degrees, you get to wear a coat and bring in a wet towel. After swinging it round 30 times, ice starts forming on the towel! Really cool!!See more..
4.0Toyako Volcano Science Museum(78 reviews) - A Less Visited Spot at Lake Toya Monday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Science Museums
While most visitors are here for hotspring stay, I dropped by for a visit. There is a mini-theater that documented the list of seismic events that lead up to the eventual eruption of Mt Usu and the birth of Showa Shinzan. It is a short film for around 15 minutes. Another fun spot in this museum is the 'Volcano Experience Room' where you step in, press the button and feel the roar of a volcanic eruption in that room. Besides, lots of remnants of the most recent eruption can be found in this museum. *The museum is not free. It costs around 500 - 600 yen for a single admission. *The museum is located the Visitor Center. But you will need to do a short walk from there. It is not immediately next to the visitor center.See more..

4.0Asahikawa Science Center(74 reviews) - Fun museum for adults and kids alike Monday: Science Museums
I've just spent a fun afternoon here with my wife and 9yo son. Like many Japanese museums, it's very well set up for kids, with lots of hands-on activities and techy fun. Unlike many Japanese museums, however, a fair number of the museum staff speak passable English, so a lack of Japanese ability shouldn't hinder your day. I'd also recommend a show in the planetarium, which you won't understand if you don't speak Japanese, but is very pleasant to watch anyway (in rotating and reclining chairs). Highly recommneded.See more..

A teaching museum featuring the Desmostylia fossils found in the area and expanding to a full skeletons of marine whale species, replicas of human skeletons, this museum is perfectly designed to inspire children to a life of fossil and paleontological interest. The working staff regularly instruct school tours and there is a workshop where students can make plaster casts of area fossils. This is a worthwhile museum for anyone visiting the area, and is child friendly. Admission 400 yen for adults and 200 yen for students and senior citizens. Visited 9/21/2017.See more..
