To get to this Fish Market you get a JR Train from Sapporo station to Otaru. Then it's a 5 minute walk from the station. You can miss the entrance as it looks like a normal doorway. All seafood here is on show in tanks especially the crabs, you can choose how big you would like. There are quite a few small shops where you can have your meal ,you just need to put your name down on a list and wait to be called. They will cook what you have chosen and bring it to you. You can choose from the menu also If you want something more. We had snow crabs boiled and cooked, herring, oysters, sashimi. All food is delicious and enjoyable. You can take your time as the sellers/ owners do not rush you as they like you to spend time and relax. See more..

More 'sanitized' as compared to those stalls by the roadside, who are subject to the elements, so this indoor market makes sense, in a way. Great atmosphere, lots of stalls to sample almost everything Hakodate has to offer. Ate the great scallops, uni and melons. Lost of other stuff on sale and to try, as your wallet allows, hahaha. I think they open as early as 4am, till 3-4pm? See more..

This is not a very crowded seafood market as other places in Japan. Seafood is great around the northern seas and if you manage to catch the Urchin season (May to Sep) it would be a dish not to be missed! Small stalls selling local souvenirs here as well. See more..

A fresh fish shop, greengrocery, 21 stores including the restaurant are markets linking the eaves. It is next to business, Tomakomai fishing port and the wholesale market from 7:00 a.m. and offers fresh fishery products and farm products. In addition, the restaurant where a lot of dishes using ホッキ shellfish made specially in Tomakomai gather is popular. It is the market which it does well as a citizen's kitchen, and a lot of tourists visit as a tourist attraction of the Tomakomai only meal. See more..

This eatery is on the second floor, just around the corner from the Nikka Yoichi Distillery so we came for a meal after the tour. It's also really near the JR Yoichi station! We had the salmon ikura Don which was really fresh. Requires payment when you order at the counter, instead of getting the bill after the meal. There wasn't an English menu, but communication was quite easy as they had those artificial food models showing which food was still available. I wouldn't come all the way from Sapporo for this but if I were in the area, this is probably the best :) See more..

Visited Kushiro on a Sunday and not much going on. However we walked through town to market. Real local flavour with lots of fresh vegetable and fish stalls with loads of unusual varieties. Live lobsters, crabs and octopi on sale with cafes selling freshly cooked snacks. Sights and smells fantastic. See more..
