Very nice place at Chitose new airport to while the time before your flight. There a long roll of eateries with wide range of cuisines just beside the viewing deck and restrooms just within short walk. The viewing deck is not cluttered and should let you shoot some nice pics of planes landing or taking off. You don't need lounge at the airport..this is good enough. See more..

About 30 mins drive from Nemuro, we drove here to catch the sunrise. It was spectacular. Highly recommended to check the sunrise timing before coming. See more..
After the visit to the Blue Pond, we continued our journey through the hills and we were really glad to stop at the vista point. We lucked out that the storm had passed a couple days earlier so was sunny and quite pleasantly warm even though the ground had snow and the mountains were snow covered. Great vista point to view the 360 degrees of the mountain ranges and the Biei and Furano valleys below in the DaiSetSuZan (Big Snow Mountain) national park. Worth the stop for some great photo opps.See more..
4.5Hosooka Observation(184 reviews) - Average Viewing Area Observation Decks & Towers
I came here on a cruise ship excursion from Kushiro because the port seemed a bit remote to do my own thing as I normally do in other cities in Japan. To be honest when I got to the observation decks I wondered what all the hype was about and why I even came. There was no wildlife to be seen in any direction and all I could see was pretty much what the photos in the reviews depict. I came in the summer of 2016. I would not come here again if visiting the same port on a cruise and would find something different to do.See more..
4.5Lake Mashu 3rd Observatory(154 reviews) - Best lake view Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Observation Decks & Towers
Thanks to the review, we came to this observatory. We get to see beautiful lake and the reflections of the mountain and clouds on the lake. Felt so refreshed. See more..
3.5Uramashu Observatory(137 reviews) - Better than the observatoriy on the western side Observation Decks & Towers
This is one of my favorite spots in Hokkaido! The observatory of Lake Mashu on the eastern side of the lake, in my opinion, is much better than that on the western side in a sense that there are much fewer people there. The lake also looks more tranquil somehow. Many travel guide books mention that it is also easier to see the lake on the eastern side. Will keep coming back!!!See more..
北のカナリアパークから歩き始めました。道は整備されていますが、思ったよりアップダウンがあります。様々な花が咲き誇っていて、スコットランドやアイルランドを歩いているような景色もあります。 I started walking from North Canary Park. The road is maintained, but there are more ups and downs than expected. Various flowers are in full bloom, and there are scenery like walking in Scotland and Ireland.See more..
Has very good panaromic view of Abashiri. We came during winter season and had very clear view of mountains covered in snow, frozen lake and of course the signature drift ice in Abashiri. A must visit after the prison musuem, it's just a short 5min drive from the musuem. See more..

Not too strenuous of a hike up for those whom are use to hiking. Relatively short distance, but some parts (more towards the top) are rocky and not paved. Sturdy shoes will Def be useful. See more..
At 467m, the elevation gives one a broad view over the city. It's a tough climb on a bicycle but the view is worth it.See more..
4.5Mt. Hakodate Observatory(77 reviews) - Too many tourists, had to push our way through... Observation Decks & Towers
Firstly, the bad points.... TOO MANY TOURISTSSSS! I get that they have to follow a certain schedule and get back to their buses, but they have been occupying those very limited seats from sunset until night time. The roof observation area was far worse. At least 3 rows of tourists were crowded around that area and it was a nightmare getting down. Maybe an advice to tour guides.... maybe to give other visitors a chance to take some nice photos? Instead of going along with everyone. Saving grace was the majestic view, I can get why it’s one of the best night views in the world. The pictures taken does not do it justice. And the station staffs were just amazing. Cheers to them. They were extremely polite in dealing with rude tourists and gave out clear instructions, all with a smile :) their hard work made it more bearable when queueing up for the descent.See more..
While you can get here by car or bus tour, I recommend hiking or walking up the last .75 km from the bicycle path. Try to time it to arrive when the tour buses are not there. I'm sure it would be great to see it with the clear reflection, but it is also a nice view on a breezy day even without the perfect reflection. See more..
A nice spot to shoot 25 photos. An overlook of the Hokkaido countryside. Serene and beautiful. This is so unlike the built-up Tokyo landscape.See more..
If you visit Rausu, this place is a must, simply because it is close to the town, it's free and the view is stunning. It is up the hill so you get a great view of Rausu, the port with lots of shipbuilding activities, the Sea of Okhotsk and one of the islands that Japan and Russia have been fighting for. It's shocking to see that the island is merely 20 miles or so away from Japan yet it is being occupied by Russia currently. We visited the observatory deck in early June and still saw some snow up the hill. Will come back to this place if we go to Rausu again!See more..
4.0Yuhidai(65 reviews) - Great view of the sunset! Observation Decks & Towers
Go early for a good spot! Space is limited if you want a 'front row' space, so if you like taking pictures, definitely go early. See more..
4.0Taushubetsu Observatory(64 reviews) - Great views surrounded by nature Spent < 1 hour Observation Decks & Towers
Made a trip here in november, but unfortunately didn't get to see the bridge as it was submerged underwater. It only reveals itself in certain months, but the short hike there was pleasant and the views were still great even without the bridge. A sign warned of bears in the area, but we didn't encounter any. See more..
4.5Lake Mashu First Observatory(61 reviews) - Just stunning and worth the drive Spent < 1 hour Observation Decks & Towers
4.5Tokkarisho Lookout(55 reviews) - One of the best seaside vistas in Japan Observation Decks & Towers
Muroran is often overlooked in Japan touristic guides (there maybe an 'industrial city' - which it is - footnote). Tokkari-sho is not even in most cars' GPS (while the also very nice Chikyu Misaki close by is duly recorded)! Still, this is one of the best seaside vistas I have seen in Japan, pictures can not do it justice: Normandy-like cliffs, small island rocks, rolling green hills, WOW!See more..
4.0Saroma Lake Observatory(49 reviews) - Lovely place but careful drive Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Observation Decks & Towers
Once you reached the top, the view was fantastic. However, there's a price to pay. Before you reach there, you need to navigate a 5km stretch of gravel / dirt road, where only a single car can pass. There are some spots where two cars can barely go through. Very skilful and careful driving is required, as one single of the road is the hill and he other side is the hill cliff. I was fortunate that during my drive up and down, there was no cars coming from the opposite direction. Else, guess one party needs to reverseSee more..
4.0Ogigahara Observatory(48 reviews) - Great views from this wayside stop Observation Decks & Towers
We stopped along the highway to enjoy the views from this lookout at Ogigahara and they were beautiful. The winter setting, the mountains, the plains and the ocean in the distance were fantastic. Well worth stopping if you are travelling this way.See more..

I used the Airport when I visited Shari Township Utoro Hot Spring Bus Terminal. There is not many eateries once you are out of the airport, it may be a good idea to take meal at the airport x bathroom facilities, unless you're in hurry. See more..

4.0Senbodai(29 reviews) - Great views of Rumoi and a nice snack bar Observation Decks & Towers
