4.5Rebun Island(227 reviews) - Beautiful small island Islands
Rebunto is known first of all because of its alpine flowers blooming during summer months, but there's much more to this island. I visited in October, stayed for three days. Wonderful hiking trails, amazing diversity of landscapes, beautiful views, and few to none tourists.See more..
4.5Rishiri Island(152 reviews) - Seeing is Believing Islands
Some believe the only reason to come to Rishiri Island is to climb Mt. Rishiri. Did that too but the beauty around the island is worth looking into. The two ways onto the island are by plane or ferry if you would like to bring your car. Even if you don't bring your car they have rentals or you can see the island by bus. Very good bike trails as well if you want to rent or bring your bike. A few tour companies that show you the things you should not miss. The campsites I like best were along the beach and the sunsets are amazing. I'll have to come back and winter to see this island again.See more..
4.5Teuri Island(42 reviews) - Seabirds, Uni, Ecotourism, and More! Islands
One of the two islands that are part of Haboro, Teuri offers a great experience to those willing to ferry over to the area. You arrive in the port where local dockworkers (and innkeepers if you made a prior reservation) greet you as you step off the ramp onto stable ground. Depending on the time of day, you may wish to grab a bite to eat at any one of the seafood restaurants around the pier. After your meal, rent a bicycle and circumnavigate the island. Be sure to take a break at the Akaiwa Lookout, a seaside overlook with clear blue waters below you. Continue to the island's north side and spot Rishiri-Fuji rising above the sea. Return to the port at the end of the afternoon, and walk your way over to the seabird museum to read more about the island's wildlife. By the end of the day, a meal consisting of the freshest seafood you could imagine awaits you at your ryokan. Your innkeeper will offer to drive you back to akaiwa at sunset, when you will witness an amazing site as the thousands of birds return to their nests in the cliffside. Repairing for the evening in your ryokan, take a nice warm bath, drink some tea, and rest on your futon as the sound of the waves lull you to sleep. Teuri's meibutsu is uni (sea-urchin), and as such the island hosts an uni-festival in the summer. You will have the freshest and tastiest uni of your life there. If you stay at Yorozuya ryokan, be sure to ask for a taste of the uni-zake..See more..
4.5Yagishiri Island(31 reviews) - Suffolk Sheep, an Onko Forest, and Seafood Islands
Yagishiri is the flatter of the two islands belonging to Haboro. It has an almost pristine quality to it, as much of the island is left in its natural state. Homes, restaurants, and inns are mostly on the coast, leaving visitors to experience Yagsihiri's beauty with rare tranquility. The island features acres of pastures for grazing Suffolk sheep (めん洋), which are one of the islands delicacies. During the Yagishiri Sheep festival, there are BBQ stands, games, and shopping available. The Onko (Yew Tree) forest is another of the island's highlights. You can cross a suspension bridge into the forest's center where you relax and soak in the flora and fauna. A handful of inns offer cozy accommodations, but Isonoya is probably the most popular. One is advised to visit from May to October, when the sea is calm and the temperatures moderate.See more..
