Took the ferry to and fro via Wakkanai. Different from the sea journey to Rishiri, the journey to and fro to Rebun was no short of surprises. Dolphins and hundreds of Oracs (killer whales) feeding on the abundant seafood. Videoing them might be difficult on a summer day, the wind speed was high. On a clear sky day, the view of Mt Rishiri was also spectular. If one is lucky, you can even see parhelion or 'sun dog' like I had. See more..

We drove around after visiting Cape Hanasaki. Plenty of eagles all around and it was possible to get really close to them. See more..
  3. 3.5 Iwanai Fishing Harbour (13 reviews)
    - Not a great deal to see
Spent 1-2 hours Piers & Boardwalks
    Iwanai Fishing Harbour image
This is a fairly industrial old fishing town with very little to attract tourists. It's quant, sort of, with quite a few dilapidated timber buildings scattered amount the other uninspiring buildings. The coast is quite spectacular heading West through a long tunnel and the surf is quite heavy smashing at the seawalls right along the coast. There are good few restaurants a couple of blocks into town but we didn't find any harbour side eatery as one might envisage from its location on the map. The Iwanai Ski area is nearby but limited with only 1 lift we saw, and its mainly for Cat Skiing trips. Ok for a half day trip drive if you need a day off skiing but not a highly rateable place. You can head there from Kutchan in about 30min and head back via Rykoshin Niseko/ Moiwa (longer return). See more..
  4. 4.5 Kurion Promenade (4 reviews)
    - 車乗り入れ禁止の遊歩道

    Kurion Promenade image
See more..
