What a colorful experience! September, 3:30 in the afternoon we had a marvelous tour of the colorful, striped fields. We rode in the tractor-pulled wagons which had side covers as it had just rained. We were there at 6pm and kinda excited about the "light-up" (illumination). But actually the garden looks a lot nicer under the sun. There are lots of flowers blooming (and lots of blood-sucking bugs, so wear insect repellent) and it's worth visiting. There's also a rose garden at the back that we didn't go (because of the bugs). It's very different from rows of the same flowers as in Tomita Farm. See more..

The first flower farm we visited. Seems not many tour buses stop here, mostly small groups of visitors on self drive. Had a nice walk and proper view of the whole field without people blocking you when you try taking photos. Kiosk at the entrance serves pretty nice lavender ice cream. Some might complained that this garden is unmanaged or not organzied. Well, you have to understand the story behind this Garden. The real "star" of this garden is the old lady who started this garden. She planted all the plants after her husband died. She emphasized on a natural way of planting so, there is not much specific planning or organization. She planted as she pleased. We watched a documentary about this garden before coming. This made us appreciate this garden even more. Too bad, we didn't see the old lady when we came. We came here during spring time. Flowers were blooming. Even without thorough planning, the garden was still very beautiful. I was able to take a lot of nice pictures. I think it also depends of which time of the year you come . Overall, Shichiku Garden is a must-visit in Obihiro. We came and was not disappointed. Note that this place may not be accessible by public transportation. See more..

I went in the beginning of May and there's not a lot of flowers blooming... I believe the key time to visit is in July, maybe late June. However, that being said, this was still a definite highlight of my trip. I missed my stop on the JR (it's NAKAfurano, got off instead at Furano station) and the tourist center said it's almost 10km away from foot. The next train would be an hour later. Seeing how it was frustrating that I spent almost >3 hours on transit from Sapporo, I decided to bike by renting from a nearby bike rental place. Boy it was one of the most scenic bike routes I have ever witnessed and I bike quite frequently back at home. The mountain ranges surround you as you go to the farm. It will still take a while (I think almost an hour) but I don't regret it for a second. Don't forget to try their unique Lavender ice cream for 300 yen! See more..

An elephant is raised at this zoo. The zoo where an elephant is raised in Hokkaido is only here. Girafves and zebras are raised by the same cage, so I'm interesting. It is for sure a farm with flowers everywhere. They have an advantage leaving a small narrow passage in a depth of half meter inside the flowers. You can stand or sit there and take photos. The farm is over the hill and the view is really great. They also have a small counter selling melon fruits. Another counter is selling melon products. There is a small workshop where you can fill you own Sleep buckwheat hull pillow and also Potpourri knob (fragrance bag). Probably 10 minutes for both of them. See more..

I don't necessarily look back at my 6 months in Kitami with regret (since I made some memorable acquaintances there), but to say the city is lacking in entertainment would be an all-time understatement. That being said, Wakka Genseikaen was a place that I like to describe by saying that it seems to want you to be happy. It charms you, it winks & smiles... and you feel somewhat "detoxed" when you leave. Since mine is the only review of this attraction that was written in English, I know it will never be read. But just in case some ex-pat is currently residing in Kitami, as I once was, I should advise you to give this place a try. You'll be glad you did! See more..

Visited on 03 Nov 2018, Saturday. Weather is awesomely good. Clear blue sky. Transport: Took a special autumn leave viewing bus to kosetsuen from Hakodate bus terminal. This bus only operates from end oct to 11 Nov, departs at 10 am, return trip is at 12nn. One way fare is 300 yen per pax . U can use the 1 day bus/tram ticket for this. Well worth as it only takes 26 mins to reach the park instead of the usual 1 hour by bus no. 14. It’s ok not to take the 12 nn special bus back to town. U can take your time to enjoy viewing the leaves and take the normal schedule bus 14 back. View: the colours of the leaves are awesome! I can say it’s the best place to be in autumn. The park is quite big and there is a children playground within the park . Great for hiking too. See my photos. Every turn is a postcard kind of view. Weather is cooling to walk in. Tips: bring some snacks to picnic at the park. And water too. U will love it ! See more..

We stayed at Lake Saroma to break up the long drive between Asahikawa and Shiretoko. This is a beautiful nature park with lots of wild flowers during summer . We went on the horse carriage ride and the guide even let us try holding the reins for a fab photo op. There are bicycles for rent which would have been the best way to explore the park but we didn't have time for it . See more..

I've visited Obihiro just for few days but that garden is one of the most amazing thing I've ever seen on Hokkaido. Everything there has an idea, nothing placed "randomly", if you see two trees staying like a "gate" most likely you will find that in you can see waterfall between them. And another great thing which exciting me that garden established by one person who just want's to create something beautiful in this world. Fortunately we meet that person occasionally and he gave us a tour in that garden. We've feed carps, visited enclouser with tiny horses and baby-cows ^__^ Most likely that garden was one of the most impressive things for me on Hokkaido. Though the scale is smaller , it has a good mix of flowers too . I luv the 2 cafes and their lovely food. It is not as touristy so u get beautiful pics without many people in the background. It is also linked thru a beautiful forest walk to our pension at Yamasan. So you can imagine how romantic it is to take a stroll from the pension , with birds chirping and pipe in music in the forest and wala ! u came upon the opening and a sea of lavender greets you ! 森と名がついていますが、森はあまり深くなく、やや人工的に作られた感じがしました。
園内は、遊歩道もついていて散策しやすいです。

5月下旬に近くを通って、ちょうど芝桜が満開、とのことで寄ってみました。

公園内には野球場やグラウンド、子供向けの遊具があり、また冬にはスキーやスケートもできるようで、総合運動施設のようでした。

観光農園の夏の目玉はひまわり、圧倒的なひまわり畑を堪能して下さい。その他コスモス等も。
お勧めは"川の散策路"、草刈り整備された柔らかな道を歩き、川遊びも楽しめます。川魚もいます。
カフェでお茶を、蕎麦・うどんもあります。
