5 Star Places To Visit in New Hampshire, United States (50)
5.0Santa's Village(1.240 reviews) - A Great Family Spot! Amusement & Theme Parks
Santa’s Village is a terrific place to spend a busy and fun family day. The grounds are spotless and the staff is friendly and helpful to all. There are plenty of rides, shows and activities like the alphabet hunt are fun. Kids can collect letters on punch cards by stopping a elf statues around the park and then turn their cards in fora “diploma” from the elf university at the end of the day. The rides and activities are geared to a good mix of ages. We had kids from 5 to 10 in our group, and there was more than enough for everyone to enjoy. Food is always a killer at these types of parks, but from our experience it was pretty good and affordable. We had pizza and drinks for our group of ten. The pizza was made to order and the cost was about $75 - pretty fair. They were also celebrating Halloween, and several locations around the park had small treats for the kids. And finally there’s the man himself, Santa Claus. He was terrific with the kids and they all had a good visit without feeling rushed. Pictures are available. This is a must-visit when on a trip to the White Mountains.See more..
What a fabulous time!! We did the winter ziplining tour with a group of 10 people. We had 4 guides and they were all fantastic!! The military vehicle that brings you to the top of the mountain is so much fun. Be sure to buckle your seatbelt or you WILL end up in your neighbor’s lap !! The tour lasted close to 2 hours and included 6 ziplines I believe. Highly recommend as long as you’re not afraid of heights or speed!See more..
5.0Northern Extremes Snowmobiling - Tours(965 reviews) - Awesome Day Snowmobiling in Bear Notch Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Ski & Snow Tours • Private Tours
Such a great company outing. Most of us had ridden in the Bear Notch area before, so we booked a 1/2 day rental. Our paperwork was done online in advance, it was super simple, and made checking in easy as could be. Katie and Bob in the office were so nice. They helped us get everything ready to go, made sure we all had the gear we needed, and went over the current trail conditions. You do still need to arrive early to get all your gear together, get fitted for helmets, go over maps, and check out each sled. The sleds were all Ski-doo and Polaris, they were all newer with electric start, heated handlebars, and in perfect working order. The two days before had been warm with freezing temps overnight and we were worried the trials would be icy, rutted, and beat up, but the grooming in Bear Notch is second to none. The trails were in great shape and everything was clearly marked. We had so much fun. Ready to book again!See more..

We went 30 minutes out of our way to view the falls and it was definitely worth it. Short hike along the rushing water to the top of the falls. You then descend to the bottom of the falls by way of a 120 step well designed rock staircase with a railing. At the bottom you are right by the falls. Beautiful setting!See more..

5.0Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel(322 reviews) - Great fall fun! Saturday: 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM Nature & Wildlife Tours
We went for a lovely cart run last week while on a road trip from Vermont to Maine (fun tip, this is a perfect stop right in the middle if you're on a road trip). When you arrive you'll get plenty of time to meet and greet the dogs (and yes, they'll let you know which ones not to approach - this is mostly for the dog's safety, none of them are aggressive, just bouncy :). If you're a dog person, you'll be in heaven going from happy dog to happy dog, giving out hugs and pats. If you're on one of the cart tours, please understand that these are dependent on temperature, again for the dog's safety. These pups can heat up fast. Everyone is very upfront about this and we knew going in our trip could be shortened or end up as a meet and greet. We were lucky that it stayed on the cooler side, but my advice if you're worried is to try and take the first trip in the morning and of course keep an eye on the temps. Having said that, the meet and greet would have been fantastic in and of itself. Casey was our guide and gave us lots of good info and history regarding the dogs and the kennel. He is clearly very in tune with his animals and made sure they were okay every step of the way, even going so far as to help a dog with a stiff leg stretch a bit. These are working dogs, but you can tell from the get go that they love to run. You'll also get to harness the team then hop in the cart for quite the ride. It's a little bumpy (hence the warning about any injuries or recent surgeries) but nothing too crazy. I didn't go with any kids, but I'd imagine they would have a blast! We also met with Cale who was in training to lead future tours. He was excellent as well. All around a great morning of fun!See more..
Roxie hosts a wonderful, personal, truthful tour which explores the whole provable history of Portsmouth (even if just a small portion of it). This was my first ghost tour. I was wary, and hopeful that the night’s guide would not rely too much on sensationalism in order to keep guests entertained. Roxie does the opposite. She keeps her curious followers engaged simply by relaying the facts of downtown Portsmouth’s history and not glossing over the darker parts, the city’s shortcomings when it comes to racial or social tensions, and she discusses only credible sources of supernatural occurrences. I could not have asked for a better informed guide. It’s clear Roxie has a passion for what she does and wants to leave her audience with a well-rounded impression of this city’s history, flaws and all. I cannot recommend this tour enough!See more..
5.0New Hampshire Brews Cruise(278 reviews) - Good beer and great company Saturday: 10:30 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:45 PM - 7:30 PM Beer Tastings & Tours
I’m not a beer drinker but it was my husband’s birthday and I wanted to do something other than sit around the dinner table with cake. I originally booked the Saturday morning tour but the day before, the owner emailed me to request that we switch to the afternoon tour since there were no other guests that morning. I happily obliged but explained that we chose the tour that we did because of my husband’s preference for non-IPA beers. The afternoon of the tour, the owner, Dave, admitted that he switched tours so that he could tailor the beer tastings for types other than IPA’s. Dave is personable, knowledgeable and more than accommodating to his guests. And his mom’s homemade jumbo soft pretzels were delicious, too!See more..
5.0PortCity Bike Tours(250 reviews) - Good tour, good workout, comfortable bikes Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM City Tours • Cultural Tours • Historical & Heritage Tours • Bike Tours • Sightseeing Tours
This was our first ever bike tour. Our tour guide Vinny was very informative about the local history of Portsmouth and the islands. But he was also great at making sure the bike riding pace was comfortable and more importantly that we were all safe while riding on the streets. We are 60+ and although we had a good workout we are glad we chose this tour! See more..

5.0Bretton Woods Canopy Tour(221 reviews) - Epic course, a must try! Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Nature & Wildlife Tours

The West Rattlesnake Trail is relatively short (0.7 miles one way) and the elevation is not too demanding. Saw many families on the trail some with their canine companions. The view of Squam Lake at the top is beautiful. One caution, if you have small children there is a ledge at the top and children should be watched closely to avoid an unfortunate accident.See more..
5.0Gundalow Company(213 reviews) - Awesome sailing experience, great for all ages Boat Tours
We did a midweek 3:30-5 pm cruise on the Gundalow and it was a fantastic experience. We were using it as a chance for 3 families to meet up after a long time and has kids varying from 2.5-9 years old and they ALL had a fabulous time. Kids under 8 have to wear a life jacket the whole time (they provide as needed) and then they did a great job engaging the kids in the group to help with the main sheet aka main sail row. Great summary of the local geographic features, brief history of the style of boat & it’s uses in the area and overall a beautiful ride. Super friendly team and highly suggest!See more..
A overcast day with a bit of rain. Not long out of the harbour we came across a large sunfish and the boat was skilfully manourvered so that we got a close up view of this large and strange fish. We then motored out to the area were whales are apt to be. Our first sighting was a brief glimpse of a finwhale which then vanished. However we then came across a number of humpbacks, 7 of them in one group. They were not feeding but loading about on the surface and slowly moving along. We also saw them slepping the water with flippers but some distance away. During the trip also saw a number of different seabird species. Crew were knowledgeable and helpful. Snacks and drinks on on board including some alcoholic. I tried hard Meltzer for the first time and decided I did not like it! Quite a run out to the area where whales are. Over one and a half hours each way so a long day. Also cold at this time of year so take plenty of layers.See more..

I got this for my fiance for his birthday. He was originally scheduled for July 1 but due to the hot weather they had to cancel. It was very easy to reschedule and he just did his 8 laps on 9/16. We had scheduled for 1pm but had to check out of our hotel at 11 so we went down to see if he could get in early before our drive back to CT. Everyone was so accomodating and he was able to do the 12pm run. He definitely wants to do it again and we will have to get him many more laps because in this case. 8 was definitely not enough!!See more..

5.0Benson Park(176 reviews) - Wonderful park! Saturday: 7:00 AM - 8:00 PM Parks
Benson park is an amazing place to go for a walk, take the kids, go to the playground, take the dog, have a picnic, take pictures and bird watch amoung other things. This place was a zoo back in the day. It has been renovated and is simply magical for kids. Lots of the old structures are there, gorilla cages, the old woman in the shoe display, the swan pond (you can always see turtles hanging out). The park is well maintained and lots of fun. Only down side is there are no public restrooms - only porta potties. Yuck! Maybe soon the town will get real bathrooms up and running. The dog park is a great attraction there as well.See more..
5.0Granite State Escape(165 reviews) - A great time had by all at Cook Manor Saturday: 11:30 AM - 10:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Escape Games
Wow, what a fun venue! My husband and I just completed the Mystery at Cook Manor. We had an amazing orientation and the room was pretty well done. A lot of traditional locks, but some next gen elements as well. The owners of this venue clearly love the art of escape rooms and put a lot of time and thought into a quality experience for their guests. We escaped with a lot of time left, so experienced escapers may want to opt for a harder room (for reference, we have done 50+). If it is one of your first few though, I think you’ll really enjoy it!See more..

I drove the Auto Road to the summit of Mt. Washington. While at the summit, I stopped by the state park’s information desk and got some information about a short east hike in the alpine tundra. The parking area is less than a mile from the summit. The walk is relatively flat at first. The landscape is rocky with grass and flowers mixed in. It was a beautiful landscape with great views. The trail continued down a steep slope with a flatter trail beyond along a high ridge. I chose to stop at this point since the return hike would be more strenuous than I had planned. Even the short hike is worth the stop. I highly recommend talking to the rangers and finding a short hike to fully enjoy this beautiful place.See more..
5.0Seacoast Helicopters(101 reviews) - Excellent Helicopter Tour Helicopter Tours • Sightseeing Tours • Air Tours
Just returned from a great helicopter tour with my daughter. The first thing that really impressed me was the condition of the helicopters all in pristine condition which will instil confidence in the more nervous passenger. When you also take into account the great flying of our pilot Kevin and the extensive knowledge of our guide Bruce this all added up to a most rewarding experience. Highly recommended and can not wait until I get the chance to get airborne again with this excellent company.See more..
Having minimal prior fly fishing experience, I had a fantastic experience with Dave and Jim on the river. These guys know their stuff, from fishing know-how to teaching it. They covered a lot of material in a day - casting techniques and practice, stripping and mending, how to fish with streamers, dry flies, and nymphs, how to find and approach the fish, how to manage your time on the water, landing a fish, where to fish, and more. I feel much more knowledgeable and ready to apply their lessons on my own with more confidence. I ended the day with great excitement and enthusiasm for the sport.See more..

5.0Mount Kearsarge(56 reviews) - Rewarding and just the right amount of challenge Mountains
Pay to park, small lot. Reservations recommended, but we went on a rainy cold day so had no trouble without a reservation. Go up Winslow and down Barlow, very steep in spots, rocky terrain with slippery footing. We had no view due to the bad weather but found it spectacular nonetheless. Recommend proper footwear and lots of water. My 11 year old is used to hiking but I couldn’t recommend this to little ones. Took us 3 hours to complete the loop. Definitely had sore knees and ankles afterwards.See more..

We went out on the Atlantic Queen II on July 11, 2012 and had an outstanding afternoon. It was a beautiful day, the crew was great, and we spotted 16 whales! I was very impressed with the cleanliness of this vessel (considering it is also used for fishing trips in the morning). We had a great trip out to Jefferys Ledge, the captian moved around as needed while communicating with other vessels to ensure the best possible experience for us. We are planning to take another whale watch trip later this season, and will return here. We had a wonderful afternoon and the price was very reasonable. Prior to our Plum Island Birding tour, Steve took the time to learn about our experience birding and what we were hoping to get out of it. We also dealt with an unusual weather pattern and was again given options to accommodate. We forged ahead as planned and it was an amazing experience. Steve took the time to educate us on the landscape, species and sounds. His ability to spot and track birds allowed us to see 38 species during our two hour experience. 5.0Team O'Neil Rally School(44 reviews) - Absolute blast!! So much fun, awesome instructors Saturday: Lessons & Workshops
An absolute blast!! Fantastic experience. My wife and teenage driver went on the Winter Driving Course. I was worried that it might be too basic for them as they are both good drivers. However, it surpassed all of our expectations. Not only did they learn some cool new facts, but the course does actually include relatively high speed driving in the snow, with a snow autocross type track at the end. So much fun and both walked away with new confidence in their car as well as in their ability to handle snowy conditions. I have now told all of my friends about this course.See more..

If you have an actual interest in wine making, or grape growing, or any of the processes in between, the owners and staff are very forthcoming with information about their processes. We were here for their harvest weekend - a fun outdoor event to celebrate the wine making season. There was live music and food as well as games and picnic tables set up. 5.0Phillips Exeter Academy(39 reviews) - Accessible high school in pretty town. Educational sites
We stopped here today to see the Academy Library built in 1971 and designed by Luis Kahn. He works in International Modernism and this structure is a bold cube of bricks 111’/side and 80’ tall. We especially wanted to see its dramatic central hall and interior double staircase but a sign outside said the pathways and facilities of the academy were closed due to Covid. We did see the exterior of the 1914-1930 Academy Building, the 1895 Phillips Church and the 1856 Town Hall in this very pretty and accessible historic town.See more..

5.0Pete's Stand Vegetables(36 reviews) - First Visit of the Year Saturday: Speciality & Gift Shops
My wife and I have been coming to Pete's Stand since moving to Surry, NH, three years ago. This visit was our first one this year. Things are a bit different these days for two reasons. First, they have added an indoor section where you can buy refrigerated foods like local cheeses and other items. Secondly, because of Covid-19, buyers use small hand held baskets for produce, which have been pre-bagged. Of course, clients must social distance and use face coverings in accord with State and Federal guidance. I felt quite safe, even I have two Covid-19 risk factors. We bought plants and beet greens with small, very tender roots. Now is the time to "step up" and support our local agriculture. Now is more deserving than Pete's Stand.See more..
