Good trip! We arrived at approximately 5 pm, payed the small entrance fee and made our way inside the park. The park was very nice and clean, and contained several bench/table areas that one could sit and relax on. There was a looping trail around the lake that provided gorgeous views of the lake from multiple standpoints. The park also contained a building that had restrooms in it. Tip: I recommend spending 45 minutes here if you truly want to see everything. See more..

  5. 4.5 Lake Sunapee (29 reviews)
    - Lifetime residents
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Lake Sunapee image
My husband and I met here 31 years ago - and it is a wonderful place. It is however getting a little too "grown up" with million $$$ homes - and no businesses to support the crowds. Lake is too small for "wave boats" which are ruining the shoreline. Lake Sunapee is no longer a hidden gem but a polished diamond for the rich. See more..

We rented a quintessential lake house and it did not disappoint! The early mornings are great for quiet kayaking while the later afternoons seem to be the prime water skiing hours. Whatever your pleasure, this lake is sure to please. Clean water, fishing, swimming and boating. Plus the lake residents observe a 10 pm quiet time. Yay!!! See more..

    - Good size pond with lot’s going on
    Bodies of Water
    Pine River Pond image
Stayed at a place on Pine River Pond. Nice waterway. Clear and warm (by New England native standards, not my wife’s). Quite a bit of power boat and jet ski traffic over the weekend, but we were in a cove, so just something to look at from a distance. Got my sailboat out on Thursday and it was super quiet. It was just me, a guy on a jet ski and a guy on a pontoon boat. Good lake for SUP and kayaking. See more..
  10. 4.0 Wadleigh State Park (10 reviews)
    - Quiet and peaceful state park
State Parks • Bodies of Water
    Wadleigh State Park image
Perfect for those who want a little less crowded area. There were no motorized boats out which makes it great for those wanting a calmer and quieter kayaking, canoeing experience. There is a large area to go swimming and floating around if you bring floats. The bottom of the lake is somewhat rocky and there is an occasional branch here and there so I would suggest wearing water shoes. The sandy area of the beach is very small so you would end up putting your beach chair right next to the water. The bathroom and changing areas are nice and appear maintained well. There is plenty of parking and the walk to the lake is very short so if you need to take multiple trips to your car to get stuff, it won't take long at all. See more..

I love to take my dog Gromit to Wasserman Park. If I go down by the back I can take them off leash and let him run a bit get rid of his anxiety on being inside all winter. He has a ball. Plenty of room to run around and have fun. And they keep it nice and clean and the grass mowed in the summer. See more..

  14. 3.5 Edward Macdowell Lake (6 reviews)
    - I love this hidden gem
    Bodies of Water
    Edward Macdowell Lake image
I am hesitant to write this review because I like it just the way it is. This place is run by the us army corps of engineers and is free to use (unless you'd like to rent a shelter). It is a great place to kayak, canoe, hike or swim. While I am sure there are creepy crawly things I've never had a problem except for some peaty flies. The rangers are great. Recommend talking to them for the lay of the land or for some history. Again - I love this place See more..

This pond is about 1/2 mile hike from the road. There is a trail that runs completely around the pond, plus a number of snowmobile trails in the area. The pond is part of the Lake Massabecic watershed so there is no swimming allowed. Fishing is allowed, and the pond contains a good variety of fish. See more..

This is a lovely little park situated on the Contoocook River. Beautifully maintained with a boat launch and plenty of room for parking. There are also porta potties. It's a nice area to park and stroll around as well, as the road leading to the park has a gorgeous covered bridge. Did not access the water, just stopped to look around for memories sake as my great aunt and uncle used to own the property many moons ago. They would be so tickled to see how it has been preserved. 23. 4.0 Chapman's Landing (1 review)
    - GREAT SPOT FOR BIRDING, FISHING, KAYAKING, & BOATING
Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Chapman's Landing image
Chapman’s Landing is a natural area next to the NH-108 bridge over the Squamscott River on the Stratham/Newfields town line. It's a great spot for launching a boat or kayak, fishing, birding, or just enjoying the view of . It's a scenic area with a lot of unspoiled marshland. I noted that the boat launch ramp was quite short and not steep at all. It was almost level. The boat ramp and the nearby area were also good places to fish the river. At the time of my visit, the river flow was very slow, giving the river a glassy-surface look. Some occasional gusts of wind spoiled it. Additionally, it was freezing cold in the early afternoon. There were some seagulls floating downriver. Other birds known to frequent the area included Nelson's Sharp-Tailed Sparrow and the Saltmarsh Sharp-Tailed Sparrow, two uncommon species that are typically only seen in saltmarshes. Virginia Rails have been spotted in the marshy area near the parking area. Osprey nest on a platform in the distance from the parking lot. Other shorebirds include heron, sandpipers, and waterfowl. Consulting a birding website, I learned that, although this is a birding hot spot, mid-November is not a great time for birding there. At more active times of the year, up to 167 different species have been spotted. It was too bad that it was so cold that day. I would have liked to walk around more. But, I can always return in the spring and summer. Since this area is part of The Atlantic Flyway, it gets its share of migratory birds. Next time on a fall visit, I’ll go earlier in the season. For its scenic views and multiple uses, I rate Chapman’s Landing at 4.50 and recommend a stop when traveling through the area. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. See more..
