Beautiful day last Sunday so up the tram we decided to go! They tell you online how many tickets are left on each trip (limited to 40), so we saw lots of availability and didn't buy in advance (but you can) and got there 2 minutes before a trip. Bought our tickets and jumped onboard for a beautiful 7 minute ride to the summit. There's an easy trail there to the lookout tower and then around back to the restaurant and summit shop that we took, we also took some side trails to more private ledges with incredible views.
