Stayed 3 days for a self-directed retreat and cannot describe how gratifying it was. Heavenly is what first comes to mind. I immersed myself in self reflection, reading, and prayer. One does not have to be Catholic or even identify as religious to benefit from the solitude, environmental quietness, feeling of peace, solitude, and beauty that envelops the monastery. A highlight for me was eating with the monks for the main daily meal and attending a number of prayer services (offices) available. Guests can attend any, all, or none of the services in the chapel which is so beautiful. Silence is expected during meals and on the monastery grounds but permitted in the guesthouse common areas and in an area adjacent to the gift shop. If you are in need of a spiritual uplift or just want to spend a few days away from the noise of society this is it. See more..

4.5Old San Miguel Mission(84 reviews) - Very nice, but it IS a church Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM Religious Sites
The inside, outside, and grounds are beautiful, as are the chapels. But don't be rude as so many of the visitors were when I was there, this IS an active church, please be respectful when you go in. They ask that people not take photos during mass, this is where the rudeness of the visitors shows the most. If mass is going on don't walk around taking pictures (esp. selfies) even if your flash is off. That said, the inside of the church is absolutely amazing, the parishioners who built it did a fantastic job, and your time to detour an visit will be well worth it.See more..

This exquisite little chapel was built to honor a person who was dearly loved, and it's obvious the people who take care of the chapel love it. It's beautifully maintained, services are still held there, and it's worth seeing.See more..
4.0Our Lady of Guadalupe Abbey(1 review) - Nice Retreat Religious Sites While traveling through the area, we were looking for accommodations in the Pecos, NM area. As a child, with my family, we had visited the Monastery. I thought that maybe they might offer accommodations for one night. Sure enough. First, the location. The Monastery is located just beyond the small town of Pecos, NM. It's in a beautiful area near the forest and near the Pecos River. The Monastery. The complex caters to groups seeking a venue and individuals seeking a refuge. It's a rambling complex with a central building containing their gift shop, lobby, dining hall and chapel. There's a wing with motel-type rooms. To one side there are living quarters for the religious community. Off the other way is a building for meetings and activities. While the Monastery focuses on groups and personal retreats, it does accommodate one night stays for those (like us) on the way through. With the room rate are a simple breakfast, lunch and dinner in the dining hall. Our room was simple with a queen bed, bed table (one), side rocking chair, small, like very small bathroom. There was a sink in the room. The room is well maintained and clean. If passing through, we'd recommend considering staying at the Monastery.See more..
