-Beautiful & tallest falls in the Jemez Mountains
Mountains • Volcanos
My husband and I went to Jemez Falls on a Wednesday afternoon. We reached the falls trail head by entering the Jemez Falls Campground, staying on main campground road, passing the campground sites on the right and going to the end of the road (about 1 mile). There is a parking lot for about 20 vehicles and 2 parking spaces were available when we arrived. We parked then hiked the easy 1/4 mile to the overlook. The falls were beautiful. A few teenagers made their way to the bottom of the falls and were playing in the water. There is no trail to the bottom of the falls and the hill is quite steep. There are pit restrooms. There is no charge to hike the trail or park. We spent about an hour at the location. Do not miss the Jemez Falls, the tallest falls in the Jemez Mountains. See more..
- 4.0 Manzano Mountains State Park (24 reviews)
-Lovely secuded state park
State Parks • Mountains • Parks
This.park is about 30 miles south of I-40 east of Albuquerque. It is fairly primitive with a few hiking trails some up to 2 miles long. There is an office where you can get a trail map and map of campsites. There are 37 sites, none with water. 16 sites have electric-those are $14/night. Day use fee is $5 per car. Quiet place with great smell of pine all around. See more..
- 4.5 Mount Taylor (20 reviews)
-Mt. Taylor 50k
Mountains
Ran a 50k race at Mt. Taylor end of September. Hard to keep eyes on the trail! Vistas from the mountain were breathtaking. CDT was in very good condition and fun to run/hike. Lots of really nice dispersed camping spots. Roads were a bit washboard, but the ones we were on were passable with a car. Aspens starting to change. Weather was perfect for camping. See more..

-Love the view
Mountains
Great place to exercise. Love taking my son here and just experiencing live itself. Took us 30 minutes to get on top of the mountain and look at the beauty of the city and earth itself. Plus there other trails you experience too. See more..
- 4.0 Deception Peak (3 reviews)
-Great hike
Mountains
We chose a perfect afternoon to hike to the top of Deception Peak near the Santa Fe Ski Area. It was so nice, we hiked on to Lake Peak. Elevation gain of 2200 ft, starting at 10K. An unmarked, but easily followed trail up to the peaks. Start on Winsor Trail and follow the eastbound trail around 0.75 miles. A comfortable climb takes you along the Pecos Wilderness boundary, through conifer forest, meadows, a great overlook of Nambe Lake before the steep hike to the crest. It was such a perfect day, we scrambled across rocks for about 0.5 mi to Lake Peak. Retracing your steps back to the trailhead is advised. We tried a suggested route back of following the old ski lift and even though we made it back and quickly, we never picked up a trail. See more..
