We had an amazing trip with LOE. The guides, Aaron and Shane, were super knowledgeable, very friendly, and put us right on the fish. We also lodged at the Juniper Cabin which we would highly recommend to anyone staying in the Chama area. The cabin host, Eric, was unbelievably accommodating, super friendly, and whipped us up some great meals. The cabin is just the perfect setup for fishing-focused travelers, scheduling all meals to accommodate when you’re meeting your guides or returning from your day of trout slaying. was at fishtail Ranch for an Elk Hunt with a good friend. Lee and Valerie are excellent hosts. All rooms seemed to be themed/ Ours was an African theme. Others were different type of wildlife themes from Elk Deer etc. Meals were excellent. 4 meals a day. From a light breakfast snack before the morning hunt to a 3 course dinner after the evening hunt. All the staff were great, from the cooks to the guides to the house cleaning staff. Hooked up with B-N-R and their guide Gordon Bailey. This was my wife Michelles 4th time out fishing and her first float trip anywhere. Gordon was friendly and knowledgeable and helped her every step of the way. The "Juan" is not an easy place to fish but he had us on fish right away. After a few swings and misses she hooked up with a really nice brown that gave her a good tussle before coming to the net. We had such a good time that now she wants this to be an annual event and I would be the last person to try to talk her out of it. Good company, good price, great guide and great fishing. Captain Ken: The Reel Deal Boat fishing Charter was just a blast! Ken responded rapidly to email, phone calls, and was very laid back when we were a bit late as we had to drive all the way to the New Mexico Marina from Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We had no phone signal-tip: take a paper map! He met us at the top of the loading dock with a wheel barrel and was very accommodating about all the extra gear/our picnic cooler too. The boat is great, has a head & inside cabin where Grandpa took a short nap. . Rigged for trolling, he helped the kids catch 5 Kokanee salmon (held fine on ice & were delicious for dinner) Captain Ken let us 2 grammas drive the boat! He kindly rebaited/re-rigged for brown fish, because the men wanted to hold their poles to fish. Of course we also shared food with him. Ken was having so much fun with us that he let us stay out over an hour longer too! He took us to a cove with a fair visibility where he let us snorkel awhile since we had all of our wetsuits, gear and life vests. He does not normally allow swimming but I had pre arranged it. The marina is great too - nice gift shop with restrooms, family things to do ; splash park, safe swim area, little rental peddle boats. We think we saw jet ski rentals too. Some really fun boats to look at. I saw a flyer about some upcoming events like live music too. The best thing? Cptn. Ken even cleans the fish for you and puts them on ice!! We loved our special day out on the Reel Deal and will go again, next time we will take the "all day tour" instead of "half day " to see more of the lake which is 20 miles long!
