  1. 4.0 Elephant Butte Lake State Park (225 reviews)
    - Nice campground but....

Elephant Butte Lake State Park image
Very nice campground but do not expect to go to the lake as the locals camp on the lake. We were there on a Thursday and found they let dogs their run free and made fires despite a ban on campfires. They line their campers along the lake making it impossible to access the lake. We mentioned it to the camp host who said not much they can do. The campground is well kept and the picnic tables were under a cover. See more..
  2. 4.5 Williams Lake (189 reviews)
    - Moderate trail
    Bodies of Water
    Williams Lake image
This is a moderate trail and if u aren’t a fan of hiking don’t do it. It’s pretty hard trail in my opinion. Make sure u have a ton of water. The water level on the lake is pretty low but the view is worth the whole 4.2 miles journey See more..

Beautiful lake in town. Nice trails for hiking or biking. There were lots of people fishing for trout which is stocked, they have boats to rent, horse riding and food trailers (not open due to Covid). See more..
  4. 4.5 Abiquiu Lake (102 reviews)
    - Enchanting Abiquiu great for SUP or boating
    Bodies of Water
    Abiquiu Lake image
Beautiful, calm lake with a gorgeous mountain backdrop. This is a good lake for SUP, canoeing, & for boating. The water was a good temperature and not too cloudy. We did check in at the Visitor Center when we arrived to find out about a parking or day pass, but there was no fee for paddleboarding. There are quite a few shade structures with picnic tables and grills, but they are not near the water. They are up on a rocky ledge overlooking the lake. You are able to drop off your canoe or paddle board in the unloading zone, but parking is further up on the rocky ledge. Saw ducks and lots of fish. Went in the morning on a Friday and the lake was pretty empty. Just a few other people there- a couple fishing in their fishing boats, a couple speed boats pulling water skiers, and some other SUPs. The wind kicked up pretty bad in the afternoon, so suggest you go early if you can. I can’t say enough about how beautiful the backdrop was. Enjoy! See more..

    Cochiti Lake image
This is a nice recreation area. A lot of the camping areas are closed but there are still spots available with some electric and water. The beach area is just a short drive away. There are some short trails that you can hike. It’s nice and quiet the end of October. The weather is great this time of the year. See more..
  6. 3.5 Pecos River Flume (55 reviews)
    - Worth Seeing
    Bodies of Water
    Pecos River Flume image
Once featured in "Ripley's Believe It or Not" as the river that crosses itself, this artificial channel brings Pecos River water from Lake Avalon to dry areas as part of the Carlsbad Irrigation System. Orginally made of wood, the Flume was destroyed by a flood in 1902 and then remade out of concrete. See more..

Nice views and beautiful natural habitat. The downside was that the trains just never stopped. They kept going day and night. Every 30 or 40 minutes you can count on hearing a train whistle blow. See more..
  8. 4.0 Park Lake (46 reviews)
    - Do not mistaken Park Lake for Blue Hole
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Park Lake image
My husband and I were looking for Blue Hole and found Park Lake. We thought Park Lake was Blue Hole but we were wrong. Park Lake was a small lake with loads of water toys. They wanted $10 per person for entry. We told them we wanted to just look around so we were not charged and did not get a wrist band. We spent about 15 minutes walking around the lake then left. The park was quite crowded for a Wednesday afternoon. See more..
  9. 4.0 Rattlesnake Springs (45 reviews)
    - Relaxing and shady picnic spot
    Bodies of Water
    Rattlesnake Springs image
Rattlesnake Springs is a part of Carlsbad Caverns NP that is not connected to, and a few miles south of, the main road to the caverns and visitor center. I believe that during normal times, there is a ranger-led tour of a nearby cave available. Given Covid, that tour wasn't running, but we found Rattlesnake Springs to be a nice oasis. We brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed eating it at a table amidst a green area shaded by large trees. It was a pretty spot, and we were glad we took some time to sit down, relax, and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. See more..

    Lake Roberts image
Had a wonderful time tooling around the lake in our little fishing boat. This is a very understated lovely area that is serene and peaceful. Caught a couple of delicious trout and there was barely anyone on the lake! Had the whole place to ourselves! Lots of parking, boat ramp, beautiful picnic areas, and multiple campgrounds including one with RV hookups. The community of Lake Roberts has a couple of places with accommodations (Lake Roberts Motel and Lake Roberts Cabins and General Store). Very beautiful area in the mountains! See more..

    Silver Springs Fishing Pond image
Had a great day of fishing, took my kids and caught 5 pretty good sized trout in about an hour and a half. Price was very reasonable and the staff was great, very friendly and cleaned the fish for us. I read all the negative reviews but experienced none of that. This is an excellent spot to take your kids. Highly recommend this place and will be returning again soon. See more..

  17. 4.0 Farmington Lake (17 reviews)
    - Paddleboard and swim
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Farmington Lake image
In the summer, I come here at least twice a week. I love to paddleboard and swim at The Beach. There are paddleboard rentals, but aren’t always open. The Beach has huge inflatables to swim out to and play. The water gets deep fairly quickly so not so strong swimmers may need a floatation device. There are lifeguards and a small snack shack. You may bring your own snacks/drinks. See more..
  18. 3.5 San Antonio Hot Springs (13 reviews)
    - Drive if you can
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
    San Antonio Hot Springs image
I've heard unless you have a 4WD it's a long hike from 126. I would drive as the hike is about 2.5 miles. There are a lot of deep holes and rocks on the road. I WOULD NOT DRIVE A SEDAN UP THERE. Other than that, its a beautiful and serene place. Always have your fair share of pot-smokers but at least there weren't any naked people. See more..

    Mimbres River Preserve image
Directions in a previous review are great, and this is a wonderful spot to enjoy the river and explore the ruins of a small house. However, Oursmall car had a hard time going up the steep, rutted gravel driveway to get back to 35. See more..

  25. 4.0 Quemado Lake (1 review)
    - Beautiful scenery
    Bodies of Water
    Quemado Lake image
My boyfriend, our 2 dogs, and I went to Quemado Lake twice in as many days. The beach is not very big, but the lake is quite lovely with mesas surrounding it. Our dogs had a fantastic time splashing in the water and running around the little island we claimed for ourselves. There is lots of fishing at the lake so be aware of discarded fishing line! Also make sure to wear sunscreen, bring water, and have towels to wipe down feet and paws. See more..
  26. 5.0 Weathers Rv Park (1 review)
    - Such nice people!
Bodies of Water • Parks • Hiking Trails
    Weathers Rv Park image
We needed a quiet place to spend the night with full hook-ups at a reasonable price. This RV park filled the bill in all categories. It was spacious with a view of the lake. When we pulled in, the owner actually came out to our RV to greet us, told us where to park and had us "check in" the next morning! There is a very easy walking trail along the lake in front of the RV park. See more..
