My husband and I went to Oasis State Park on a Tuesday afternoon in July. There was one couple fishing and a family of 6 having a picnic. The park has a pretty medium sized fishing pond with a trail around it. The pond looked very shallow (about 4 feet). Many benches and picnic tables (some covered) were around the pond. We saw a few small fish. The couple caught a nice size catfish. There were very short trails around the campsites. The park had some trees and it was clean. A few ducks were swimming in the pond. Swimming and wading in the pond is not allowed. I have no idea how they keep that pond at a perfect water level. The restrooms were ok. We spent about an hour at the park and that included a quick picnic. We paid $5 at the self-pay booth upon entering the park. See more..

This was our first stop in White Sands National Park. It was an easy walk with lots of information along the way. After stopping here we drove through the park and did the sunset stroll with a ranger. The park is beautiful at sunset and we decided the Dune Boardwalk would be a perfect spot for sunrise pictures the next morning. Did not disappoint! There was another couple there taking pictures too. It was very cold so if you plan to go, dress accordingly. Nice and warm during the day but it is very cold before sunrise. It was 33 degrees when we got to the park at 7 am and sunrise was about 7:25 am. If you are in the area, very worth it to see the sunrise there. See more..

This is a lovely well laid out area for viewing the Sandhill Cranes that winter in the Rio Grande valley. There are few amenities, two rest rooms, and three viewing platforms, but it is a wonderful place to get up close to the cranes and geese. It is for serious photographers and bird watchers. 4. 4.5 The Black Place (4 reviews)
    - The Black Place of Georgia O'Keeffe
Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
This is a fascinating geologic formation in the Bisti Badlands in Navajo country, New Mexico. The area was one of the favorites of Georgia O’Keeffe for several of her paintings, and she traveled here many times. It is about 100 miles slightly southwest of Abiquiu which was her home. We visited here in September and left from the Abiquiu area. In Abiquiu take US 84 north to New Mexico 96; turn left on NM 96 and take it southwestward to US 550 just past La Jara. (You will go by Cerro Pedernal, a narrow mesa that was also one of O’Keeffe’s favorites.) Drive US 550 westward to Mile Marker 111 near Counselors and Nageezi. You will go past some fracking areas as you approach the black, white, and grey hills. The formations are on both sides of US 550 and are fenced off from the right of way. We didn’t climb the fences but took plenty of pictures. If you are a fan of Georgia O’Keeffe, this is a worthwhile out of the way excursion. See more..
