We checked Trip Advisor for Top Things to Do in Gallup. Bill Malone came up as the number 1 thing, so we HAD to visit. We also had a Navaho rug and 2 Apache baskets we wanted someone to look at and tell ore about. Bill Malone himself was there. What a wonderful, soft spoken guy who obviously knows his stuff. Other family members were also there to help. Bill gave us appraisals for our items so we could get them insured. Don't miss this place. You might even want to buy the new book about Bill's challenge with the National Park Service and Hubbell Trading Post.See more..

4.5Trading Bird Gallery(13 reviews) - A Nice and Interesting Stop in a Great Little Town Speciality & Gift Shops • Art Galleries • Antique Shops
I stopped in the little burg of Madrid while driving the Turquoise Trail. The classic car parked nearby drew me in, but I stayed for the delights inside. Native art and jewelry are for sale and the shop specializes in the local turquoise that was mined nearby for centuries. A nice spot to meander. The town is fun, too!See more..
4.5Silver City Trading Company(9 reviews) - One could spend hours here Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Antique Shops
We had parked our car across the street, and immediately noticed this large building on the corner. After taking a look at the historical hotels nearby, we went to check out this store. As soon as one enters, one is overwhelmed by it all. There are so many rooms, and areas to wander through, that you really need to spend much time here. It was very hot, and very humid (Thursday July 18), and after half an hour, my husband went to sit on the bench by the entrance. I am a browser, not a shopper, and I love seeing things from my childhood. There were plenty of those. However, after an hour, I, also, felt exhausted, and went to sit next to my husband to rest. Prices are really good here. I saw some items, which sell for about $10 on eBay, selling here for $2.00.See more..

4.5Bosshard Galllery & Historic Mercantile(3 reviews) - A diverse and interesting warehouse sized gallery of Asian and American art and artifacts Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 AM Art Galleries • Antique Shops One of the most interesting galleries and, personally staffed by John Bosshard, an even more interesting curator of art and artifacts from Asia and the American West. The gallery also is selectively stocked with local art. Anyone who loves art enough to make the trek to Georgia Okeefe's home will love to tour this vast warehouse of treasures. We purchased an Indonesian Jaraik which is a spirit carving made by a Mentawai tribe artist sometime before WWII. John shared his deep knowledge of the back story supplemented by scholarly documentation. Also and noteworthy, the wooden piece was damaged in shipping. I had a months long dialogue regarding the insurance claim and restoration. In the end John sent me a check to cover my costs and was a pleasure to deal with throughout. PS my Jaraik is fully restored and sits proudly on our mantel and makes for quite the conversations. Overall a great travel experience.See more..

4.0Ma Sally's Mercantile(1 review) - Charming store; delightful owner Speciality & Gift Shops • Antique Shops We saw the billboard on the highway advertising Ma Sally's Mercantile. Saw the "Open" sign on our way through town, so we decided to stop. Sandy Ray greeted us at the door. Ma Sally's has a little bit of everything-just as you might expect of a mercantile. Sandy is an engaging and interesting person. She also has a casita guest house and RV park-neither of which did we use on this trip. Now that we know there is lodging in Roy, we may book the guest house on a future trip.See more..
4.0Et Cetera Consignment Home And Gift(1 review) - Excellent "frog Kissing" experience for art and antique lovers Spent 1-2 hours Antique Shops When you are going to a new city and have never been to ny of the art, antique or consignment stores; we call the process of going to them "frog kissing" because you never know what what you will find and what will happen. The good news is that this one turns into a prince! We have been here a number of times, but have never written it up in TA. It is an excellent place with a friendly and somewhat helpful staff. We have ALWAYS found some great items to buy--oriental rugs, art, jewelry, Native American silver hat bands, and furniture items. There is just about anything in here--all you have to do is dig through it to find something you can't live without! I can assure you, you will find some great deals and some wonderful stories of what you have found. You may even have an "Antique Roadshow" experience/opportunity here. There are a number of rooms filled with items. The jewelry is near the front and the owner does have some details on those items. his is a great stop--do not miss it if you like consignment shops. Many (some is a better assessment) consignment shops are "fronts" for dumping merchandise from stores, pawn shops and overstocks. They have some real junk in them. NOT HERE! All the merchandise appears to come from local families selling off pieces for a wide variety of reasons--all ethical.See more..
