Chained rock is a very nice short hike. I love to go barefoot on the rocks and do some yoga! A great spot to catch the sunset as well. See more..
  3. 3.0 Boone County Middle Creek Park (1 review)
    - Hiking in Kentucky
Tuesday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Scenic Walking Areas
This is a series of interconnecting trails. Check out the website trail map to get a sense of the many options. There is a large parking area (also shared with the Dinsmore Nature Preserve across the highway). Take Trail 1 and turn left. After about 1/4 mile there is a kiosk and trail map. Take a picture of the trail map before crossing the footbridge! Trail 1 is a large loop (2.9 miles) with multiple cut-off options. Part of it is also shared with horses and poorly drained. Fortunately, people have created alternate footpaths to avoid the mud. We did a short loop, Trail 1 -> Trail 4 (Mud Road) -> Trail 2 -> Trail 1 return. It was about 1.5 miles and took about an hour. There was a bit of a bushwhack on Trail 4 to avoid a large fallen tree. Invasive report: Garlic mustard was widespread, some bush honeysuckle. Dinsmore Nature Preserve across the highway has 1.7 mile trail that we didn't do. Boone Cliffs Nature Preserve is at the end of Middle Creek Road with 2.3 miles of trails so there are lots of nearby options. See more..
  4. 5.0 Henderson Riverwalk (1 review)
    - Enjoyable scenic walk

    Henderson Riverwalk image
My husband and I stopped here for a picnic and ended it with a walk along the historic river front. The Riverwalk is a scenic walking path along the Ohio River with Indiana clearly visible across the river. Along part of the walk are placards that talk about the name of Red Banks Park, the historic downtown, and the historic Henderson Bridge as well as the 1931 L&N Railroad Bridge that is still standing, and other things. You can walk or run on the Riverwalk from Red Banks Park to Atkinson Park, a distance of about 2 miles. It's very pleasant and scenic and we enjoyed it a lot. See more..
