  2. 4.0 Jefferson Davis State Historic Site (73 reviews)
    - Interesting, but over priced
    Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Monuments & Statues
Jefferson Davis State Historic Site image
I had wanted to come here for years, but when I got here I was underwhelmed. I paid $11 to see a small museum on the life of Jefferson Davis (all of which I already knew) & took an elevator ride to the top of the 351 ft tower where I got a view of the surrounding countryside in each direction. The staff was very friendly & wanted to talk & I appreciated that. However, if I had to do it over again I would probably not go. See more..

This is so beautiful. This carved Indian was a gift to the city of Paducah. It is huge......and the details of the carving is amazing. Very well taken care off. It's right off the highway. In front of Bob Noble Park. Come by and look at it and see what I mean about the carving. See more..

    Fort Jefferson Memorial Cross image
Coming from St Louis, we stopped here as the 1937 1 mile long Cairo Ohio River Bridge has reopened, if only one lane. This 90' high cross built in 2000 for $316,000 is visible from IL, MO, and KY sitting high over the 12 barge tows passing by in the long bend below Cairo. Signage on the site details the 1780 Fort Jefferson that once stood here. Great stop for a picnic lunch. Now we must queue up to recross the bridge as our destination is MO. See more..

    Wooldridge Monuments image
Do read about about this before your visit to understand what is going on here. To say this spectacular installation is a world class grouping doesn’t begin to describe it. The human figures mixed with animals would be stars in any European cemetery of note- like Pete Lachaise Peacefully sitting in a small town cemetery- this peaceful tableau is truly mind blowing See more..

    Lee County Memorial Park image
The Lee County Memorial Park is a great stop to learn about military history of Lee County. I found engravings for both of my grandfathers who served in WWII on the memorial wall. There are listings for people who fought in every war all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Great location for people interested in local history and genealogy. You must also check out the Three Forks Historical Center and the genealogy room at the Lee County Public Library. See more..

  16. 2.0 Battle of Ivy Mountain Monument (1 review)
    - Sad upkeep to a Civil War battle

Battle of Ivy Mountain Monument image
This monument is right off the highway. There is a very small parking area riddled with trash and used diapers. There are two signs, one on either side of the monument, that are almost completely unreadable. The monument is the standard obelisk style that is utilized at many battlefields. If you are driving and want to stop for a quick picture or to look at the monument close up, go for it. Otherwise, don't waste your time. See more..

    Lincoln Statue image
At first I thought this was a replica of the statue in Washington DC, but this statue was commissioned in 1904 and unveiled in 1909 and the Washington statue wasn't erected until 1922. I really like all the symbolism found on this statue. It's very patriotic. See more..

    Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
Lloyd Tilghman, a native of Maryland, lived in Paducah until he joined the confederate forces in July 1961. He served with distinction , was captured and eventually died during the Vicksburg campaign. The life-size, standing bronze statue, shows him in military uniform, standing on top of a pink granite pedestal, which in turn, stands on two square bases.
