A very peaceful and pretty park in the middle of an industrial park. It has other trails that branch off of the main trail you can wonder around as well. Small Education Center that host a lot of children from the city to take field trips. A great way to give children an experience of the outdoors in the city. There are benches to sit along the way. Trees and flowers that are interesting. The rock walls along the path are different. Big parking lot. It is free to tour. The trails are marked well. There is a pond. We got to see a large ground hog that wondered out from the woods onto the trail to check us out. See more..

Natural Arch Scenic Area is a day use area in Daniel Boone National Forest. We came here for a short hike with our dog. The highlight is a spectacular 100-foot sandstone arch. A paved, accessible trail leads to a nice overlook or a 1-mile loop trail leads under and around the arch. The area also has picnic areas and an amphitheater and a couple longer trails, but we didn't have time to check these out. See more..

    Winding Blade Road Marker image
This is a typical Laurel County 1942 stone marker. The hostorical significance of this marker is that commemorates Boone Trace, Mershon's Crossing and the Battle of Wildcat Mountain from the Civil War as well as the 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) of the founding of Kentucky in 1792. It is very easy to miss this marker if you are driving south west on Hwy 490. But the marker is right near the Pilgrims Baptist Church sign on the intersection of Hwy 490 and Winding Blade Road. Trust me you can feel the spirit of Daniel Boone!! You should add this to you bucket list if you are a history fanatic, or just a trail blazer. See more..

My husband and I stopped here for a picnic and ended it with a walk along the historic river front. The Riverwalk is a scenic walking path along the Ohio River with Indiana clearly visible across the river. Along part of the walk are placards that talk about the name of Red Banks Park, the historic downtown, and the historic Henderson Bridge as well as the 1931 L&N Railroad Bridge that is still standing, and other things. You can walk or run on the Riverwalk from Red Banks Park to Atkinson Park, a distance of about 2 miles. It's very pleasant and scenic and we enjoyed it a lot. See more..
