4.5Berea College(121 reviews) - Blessed with Berea Beloved Points of Interest & Landmarks
Berea College is an absolute blessing to students, especially internationals, with high potentials but financial constraints. It accepts 30-35 international students each academic year, and offers each of them full tuition and board scholarship which includes all courses, room, meal plans, extra curricular activities, free laptop and even $200 shopping allowance (only for the first Winter vacation). The faculty and staff are highly experienced and extremely caring towards the students. I'm an international student from Bangladesh in Berea College, and personally, the college has been my home away from home since day one. The campus is breathtakingly beautiful, the people heartwarming, and the town rich in arts and crafts. All in all, it is one of the most unique liberal arts colleges in the US.See more..

4.5Basilica of St Joseph Proto-Cathedral(93 reviews) - Beautiful and Historic Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Churches & Cathedrals

3.5World Peace Bell(88 reviews) - Good photo op Points of Interest & Landmarks
The museum was closed, but it's a short walk from Newport Aquarium. The bell is bigger than expected and it's a good photo op. However, it's a place to spend only 5 minutes if you cannot go inside the museum. Interesting to note, they also have small memorials for 9/11 and a piece of the towers. Sadly, it had graffiti on it (peace signs), which offended my boyfriend from New York.See more..
4.5Kentucky Scenic Byway(85 reviews) - West of the City! Points of Interest & Landmarks
All of the scenic drives west of the city are windy, perfectly pastoral views of magnificent, beautiful horse farms. When I went by, the horses obligingly frolicked with each other on their hind legs and otherwise cavorted. Of course, it was spring and they were enjoying the emerald green grass as much as I was.See more..

5.0Nada Tunnel(76 reviews) - awsome. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
The tunnel was so neat, dark, cool and so much fun to go through. You had to see if anyone was coming threw because there is only room for one vehicle. Of course you had to use your headlight to see because it is dark in there so someone could also see you if you were driving through. See more..
4.0Patti's 1880's Settlement(73 reviews) - We will return but not as often as we would like due to the prices making it more of a only special occasion type of trip. Tuesday: 10:30 AM - 9:00 PM Speciality & Gift Shops • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Miniature Golf
My family and I have traveled to eat at Patti's since the 1990's. We have always found it to be a welcoming place where everyone feels at home. The stores help to bring some additional ways to pass the day at a leisurely pace. The Christmas decorations were still up and a nice stroll through the lights after dinner was beautiful. The only concern I have is the prices seem a little steel on the actual meals and the food goods sold in the gift shop. We have always bought the butter to bring home along with multiple other items through the years. The butter is in a smaller jar and seems to be much more expensive. I also wish they had smaller options for the seasonings. See more..
Good merchandise fair prices, all hand made by students. Students in this college are required to work at campus jobs to pay their tuition and making handcrafts is one of the jobs. Other students work in the Boone Tavern hotel. See more..
I would highly recommend the self-tour to anyone interested in the feud. You start in Pikeville (which is actually only in the story as an after-the-fact location as the events of the feud itself took place elsewhere. This is just where the final trial took place and some key figures are buried). At the McCoy Well there is a really nice guy named Neil who knows pretty much anything there is to know and has artifacts and pictures he received from family members on both sides. I could have spent the day just talking to him and looking at his items/binders. Be sure to prepare for some walking, especially up to the cemeteries. The Hatfield graves are up a hill without steps.See more..
4.0Kentucky's Stonehenge(49 reviews) - A Great Roadside Attraction! Points of Interest & Landmarks

4.5Dils Cemetery(45 reviews) - Super Cool! Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries
Being able to see a part of history was really cool. Even though I felt like a bull in a china shop. There are several little headstones and unmarked graves. Just be careful you don’t accidentally knock one over and make the ghosts mad. We went on Halloween and surprisingly no one was there at night. I’m glad no one was wild enough to do that. It was fun trying to read the old headstones and facts about the cemetery. I’m happy they take good care of the property and let the public view it. A great opportunity to make sure history isn’t forgotten. See more..

4.01921 Standard Oil Station(34 reviews) - A good save of history. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
An excellent use and preservation of an original 1920's gas station. I am glad that historic places like this are saved. If you walk around the area, you will also see some other surviving/repurposed old stations that live on. Its great to save history especially if it can serve a purpose in another way.See more..

4.0World's Largest Sassafras Tree(29 reviews) - Life Changing Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This experience changed my life. I thought I knew big trees but man, I was wrong. Imagine my surprise when even I, with my considerable reach, was incapable of wrapping my arms completely around its circumference. My grasp of the inherent limits of biology have been forever and fundamentally changed. If this tree, in a State Farm Insurance parking lot, can truly of its own accord be the biggest and most magnificent of its kind, I can do anything.See more..
4.0The Cannonball(28 reviews) - Becomes worthwhile during Historic Tour. Points of Interest & Landmarks
On Dec. 27, 1862, when 3,900 Confederates under the command of General John Hunt Morgan attacked and subdued entrenched Union forces, 652 strong, commanded by Lt. Col. Smith. The Union defenders, greatly outnumbered, could offer little resistance. About noon, Morgan's artillery commander, Captain White, ordered his cannons to commence firing. One ball became embedded in a wall.See more..
4.5Boone Trace Marker(27 reviews) - Just to Clarify Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This summer, I have become some sort of a Daniel Boone expert. This marker in historic Berea is only 1 one 3 placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution. Situated under a large tree on the College Square, you may not know what it is at first. However, up close, I actually get a taste of Berea's history and I channel the pioneer Daniel Boone as he trail-blazed through Berea and established a path to be followed. The Boone Trace Trail is key to Kentucky's opening to the west. I enjoy finding these markers along the trace. As you spot them, you'll begin to understand history more so than you already do.See more..
4.0The Mother Goose(26 reviews) - not something you would expect to see on a drive Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is why we travel on back roads instead of interstates. Where else would you see something like this. The man who lived there started building it in 1935 and finished it in 1940. The windows in the middle section are shaped like an egg and the eyes are car lights that used to blink on and off. If you are in the area be sure to stop and ask a local for the directions to the house. It's a must see.See more..
5.0Adsmore House & Gardens(26 reviews) - Interesting museum . . . not like others Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Gardens
This museum changes their theme at different times of the year, focusing on an aspect of the family's life who built and live in the home. I like the way it is kept as a "living" museum. For example, as you go there, you are welcomed into the home as a guest just as if you were visiting the family in the day. The home has many neat features and the docents are extremely knowledgeable. My favorite theme is when they have the "wake", remembering a loved one who has died. They usually bring the old embalming table and the old hearse to the home and that is definitely something you'll remember. Adsmore also has a nice gift shop with a variety of exclusive items and they even have a meeting room with restrooms and a small kitchen for meetings, family gatherings, etc. See more..
I must say it is kind of run down without much to see, It deserves better than what it is now. the battle field is private property and you can not go on it. couple of good stories on plaques.. but...See more..
If you like home owned, small town shopping, this is a good one. Hardware stores, dress shops, Christian book store, gift shops, menswear, etc....no big name store, all locally owned and nice. Great area to walk and very safe.See more..
The museum, obelisk and park are small, but well worth the time. The tour of the obelisk is very short, but interesting and the views are worth the time. The museum is a very short half-moon walk through the building, but has a lot of exhibits from families whose ancestors were involved in the Civil War. This would be a great way to get kids excited about the history as there is good information, but it is not overwhelming.See more..
4.0Lincoln Heritage House(19 reviews) - Great attraction! Points of Interest & Landmarks
The Lincoln Heritage House marks an important Lincoln historical site. It was restored by the Hardin County Historical Society and opened June 24, 1973. It was destroyed by fire in 2009 and rebuilt in the Spring of 2011.See more..
Last week, I visited the Hurricane Creek Mine Disaster Memorial and was very impressed. The memorial honors minors lost in an accident at the site. The property is taken care of and beautifully represents the minors. There is a paved walkway with helmets signifying each person lost, leading to the names of the men, their information, and a statue of a minor. I recommend stopping here to honor the history of Kentucky.See more..

4.0Historic Downtown Winchester(11 reviews) - Love Downtown Winchester Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
Historic Winchester was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981. 4.5Historic Cobblestone Path(10 reviews) - just stumbled upon this path Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
After we do everything we want to do in a new town, we spend some time just driving around looking for interesting things. That's how we came across this old cobblestone path. Of course we had to stop to check it out. We learned in 1785 it was the main road into Bardstown and in 1792 it became a military road. The fact that it has survived all this time is just amazing. It isn't that easy to walk on but we were walking on history so the few stumbles/slips didn't bother us. Even if you don't want to walk down/up the path it's still worth checking out in my opinion.See more..

First, I would like to say my review is limited to the museum and historical parts to the resort. There was so much I didn't do to include the hiking trails, campground, lodge, etc. I arrived at 3:30 PM which was way later than I wanted and the museum stays open through 4 PM. The lady working there was so kind to give me a short but detailed synopsis of the park, it's history and significance, and the artifacts in the museum. There was a video that she recommended and even stayed open a little past 4 PM so I could watch it. That was extremely kind! Another gentleman who worked for the the Resort came by as I was leaving to provide some more in-depth history on the battle, the mass grave made to hold the bodies of fallen militiamen found while building the roads and buildings, and have just a friendly conversation. Highly recommend if all employees put that much effort in to guests having a wonderful trip.See more..

4.0Greenup Locks and Dam PArk(6 reviews) - We saw a barge lock through the dam Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
The locks are very interesting! They are huge and we were able to see a barge lock through. It’s a timely process but one that is pretty fascinating. You were able to walk down to the edge of the river and stand and watch Lock through the Dam. There is no cost for this and I would allow probably a half an hour at minimum to see it. Bring your camera.See more..
