    This Ferry is great, it's constantly moving back and forth across the river so there is very little wait time, unless a barge is coming through but it's still not long. From Ohio it drops you right to the front door of the Beehive Tavern. The cost for a motorcycle is still $2.00 and I think the cars were $5.00 .. worth every penny to avoid nearly an hour drive around it. See more..

    We stayed in Southern Illinois recently and took advantage of the FREE Cave-In-Rock Ferry (run by the state of Kentucky) to cross the Ohio river to Kentucky. During the operating hours, the ferry just constantly goes back and forth. Actual crossing time is not very long, so it's never too long of a wait. We had an easy experience driving onto the ferry and we enjoyed the ride over. Everyone just stays inside the car for the ride. Once we reached the Kentucky side, we drove around and looked for Amish homes and businesses, then visited Marion, KY, where we ate at the Front Porch restaurant. Then we re-boarded the ferry for a short ride back to Illinois. Fun and scenic experience. See more..

    The Valley View Ferry is a modern taken on a business that has been in operation for over 200 years. The current Ferry is ran by the U.S. Coast Guard, and completely free to take. 3 cars at a time can be carried across the river, during a trip that takes approximately 3 minutes. The craft is very safe and well maintained, but also features ample life jackets if your scared of water. As an adult I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, but my young nieces went absolutely nuts for it. Definitely worth your time if life in the Lexington/Richmond/Nicholasville area. See more..

    We’ve been planning on taking this ferry as a nice alternative to the highway. Sort of out of the way, but a fun local experience. The crew was professional, the trip uneventful, and our fellow passengers were interesting. It’s just a short (20 min.) trip across the river, but still a fun experience. Not much for facilities at either end of the trip, and both docks are out of the way, but it got us off the beaten path. See more..
