  4. 4.5 Appalshop (22 reviews)
    - Bringing Out the Culture

    Appalshop image
The town members were buzzing about Appalshop long before I stepped into today. Each local or business owner I talked to said I must stop in and check this place out and I am glad I made the trip. A place created both to preserve the Appalachian heritage and teach the next generation about how to capture such enriching stories, Appalshop is a unique and cultural asset to the community. I was able to interact with some of the interns who range in ages from 15-20, and I could see a strong passion and enthusiasm for media and the culture. Also, the staff were hospitable and took the time to deliver some great information about the history of The Appalshop. If you love any type of art form, this place does a fabulous job of exploiting the regions cultural assets. See more..

  11. 4.0 Sanctuary Arts Center (1 review)
    - Local Arts and Crafts and Entertainment

I've been several times to this establishment. Keep in mind this is a small town so it's a smaller venue. If you are lucky enough to be in town on one of the two nights out of the month that they host a potlatch Bluegrass or Folk night it's a fun and free time and they encourage joiners so bring your Banjo. They also have lots of arts and crafts for sale hand made by local artisans. The hours can vary because it is run by volunteers. On Saturday mornings, May through October, there is an outdoor Farmers' Market set up right out front. See more..
