My husband and I came here as something to do during the pandemic, and they seemed pretty prepared (or as least as much as is possible in these times). You buy timed tickets for a specific block of time, and there are plenty of hand sanitizer stations and paths that measure out physical distancing. A lot of the exhibits are closed, which is understandable, but also made the experience a bit disappointing. Maybe the zoo could have taken off more than a dollar from the entrance fee, or offered something else as enticement? Altogether, though, I’m glad that the zoo is open and functional right now. I had read of this place in the newspaper early in the pandemic, and just finally took my grandson (8 years old) to check it out last month. I didn't know what to expect -- would it just be a reptile store? But no, it truly is a reptile zoo-like experience. Each enclosure has a lovely painted background, and the reptiles and amphibians had clean, roomy enclosures. It was mostly indoors but they have an outdoor area "Turtle Lagoon" and "Tortoise Pasture." They took out the bearded dragon for my grandson to pet; however, there are also alligators, cobras, pythons, boas, rattlers, gila monster, etc. My favorite was the Fly River Turtle, the Dwarf Caimans, and the 2 snakes who laid eggs and are wrapped around them. They are in the process of expanding and adding a "Bug Cave" and more room for amphibians. They also have a classroom set aside to school-trips. Of course, at the end, my grandson stocked up on items from the gift shop. I later mentioned this trip to someone else who has an 8 year old daughter, and she said that her daughter loves this place and had her birthday party there. See more..
