I really liked the memorial. I had my grandson with me a 17 year old. He enjoyed it as well. It is right next to Central Connecticut State University. It has some interesting items with the memorial; such as, the rocks at the base are from Mt. Suribachi, and the base of the memorial has volcanic sand from the island of Iwo Jima. In addition there is a memorial for the medical corpsmen and doctors who performed miraculously during the battle. It took approximately 20 minutes to view and is handicap accessible. See more..

As other reviews note, you can tour this small site and learn from the excellent signage and graphics. One can learn about the remarkable way that people of that earlier era created an industry around iron. Read how they perfected the process of turning ore into ingots, and how they harnessed the power of a local stream, using it to run an ingenious turbine which generated the heated compressed air needed for the blast furnace. And we think we are so clever sitting at our computers! See more..

We stopped by after dinner at Otter Creek, so didn't have time to explore the whole area. We enjoyed the view of the water, boats and the old railroad roundhouse area. We would like to go back to explore when we have more time. See more..
