4.5Lovers Leap State Park(68 reviews) - Great views of Lake Lillinona Spent 1-2 hours State Parks • Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
My family and I had a hike here on 3/18. We hiked only on the east side of the lake where the hill overs the best view. I recommend getting to the cliff overlooking the lake and walking all the way to the summit. There are interesting ruins on the hill and we saw an immature bald eagle circling at the top of the hill.See more..
4.5Lake Mohegan Recreation Area(60 reviews) - Excellent place for an hour-long hiking in a small town Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
Mohegan lake has been our family's favorite "short" hiking place. There are red-trail, and yellow-trail. Red-trail is around the lake, a little shorter. My son used to run along it every day during his high school year. Sure enough, there were a lot of his foot prints left in the trail. My daughter and I did the hour-long hiking weekly when we lived there. Along the way, you will meet all kinds of dogs, long-leg, short-leg, big, small, masculine, feminine, long-hair, no-hair, etc. Be aware, there are roots sticking out all over the places which my daughter got tripped often. In summer, it is a natural cool place with tree leaves covering the sky. In fall, beautiful foliage will make you forget to go home.See more..

We were invited to the private lake house neighborhood of Candelwood Lake in New Fairfield by friends of ours to celebrate the fourth of July, only a 45 minute ride from Trumbull and it feels like a whole different world, reminds me of the Cape, beautiful beaches and crystal clear water the Lake is huge about 8 miles and is the largest lake in Connecticut, the lake is bordered by five towns: Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, and Sherman, there is also public access to the lake, where we were, there was a private dock and 2 beaches with swimming platforms, we also went on our friends pontoon for a ride across the lake, it is beautiful up and down the Lake, there were plenty of other boaters, water skiers and jet skis enjoying the great weather, fun time was had by all, can't wait to returnSee more..
4.0Farm River State Park(7 reviews) - Small, overlooked park Spent 1-2 hours State Parks • Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
This lovely park seems to be frequently forgotten, as it's fairly quiet despite its beauty. It has a small parking lot and a few trails of varying challenge levels that offer pretty views of the river and which run along the Long Island Sound. If you're lucky, you can catch views of several types of birds. I'd recommend bringing a nice lunch here.See more..
4.5Gurski Farm- Williams Park(6 reviews) - Nice Trails and country scenery at Gurski Farm Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails • Forests Peaceful, quiet, nature at its best when walking the trails thru the woods and farm land. You can park at the entrance at the bottom of the hill near the old Gurski barns and house, or proceed to the top of the dirt road. Parking is limited but usually does not present a problem as people come and go. You can see people planting their garden at the fenced in Lions Club community garden or walk your dog (please clean up after your dog does his/her job - thank you) or take the family for a leisurely walk thru the hills and grass covered trails.See more..

4.5Great River Park(2 reviews) - Beautiful area for walking, biking Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Biking Trails • Parks
Besides the amphitheater for periodic concerts, the paved and lighted walkways to the south and sculpture installations just north of the parking lot make for a lovely area for a walk. A Park Ranger is regularly on duty. There is a public boat launch. The views of the Connecticut River are great.See more..
3.0Windsor Meadows State Park(2 reviews) - Small and unassuming for a state park State Parks • Bodies of Water
This park is smaller and more unassuming that many of Connecticut's state parks. There are a couple of small parking lots, and then a direct path to the river, as this is a popular place to enter the river with your boat. However, directly to the right of the boating entrance is a flat, paved trail where you can walk, bike, walk your dog, etc. It's fairly scenic, although there's nowhere else to admire the river from the trail. There are picnic tables placed sporadically along the trail. The good thing about this park is that it seems relatively unknown, so it's not terribly crowded.See more..

5.0Lake McDonough(1 review) - Outdoor Summer Gem Thursday: 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
Good as it gets, in Barkhamsted! Just kidding Barkhamsted is a great town. But being able to enjoy the waters and scenery of lower portion of the Barkhamsted Reservoir is a huge enhancement. This lower body of water is known as Lake McDonough and is managed and maintained by the MDC (Metropolitan District Commission). There is a fee to enter this seasonal recreational facility. Also enhanced by a set of highly enforced rules and regulations. All making the facility more enjoyable for the majority of visitors. The facilities have recently been updated and offer a pleasant day outdoors on the beach, in the water, or on the water. I enjoy the boating and fishing aspect of the Lake. There's an additional set of fees for using the launch and there are a limited number of row boats for rent. I bring my own kayaks and enjoy a morning or afternoon paddling from one end to the other. The Lake is stocked and if you're lucky you might bring home some dinner. OR be a sport and release!See more..
This park is tough to find. Trails were marked with paint along trees, but hard to see and keep track of. Very quiet area. I thought I was the only person around until I stumbled across some people rock climbing along one of the hills. This is one of those places that you should always hike with a buddy. Trail maps said there was an entrance on the backside, but I wouldn’t use it. Youre parking off the side of a road and walking along the edge and behind someones property – not a good way in. The entrance is also not marked either.See more..
