The Children’s Museum’s mission is to provoke lifelong experiential learning and innovation among children, adults, and their communities. We do this by offering hands-on fun with science and nature for younger children, their caregivers, community organizations, and schools. At the Museum and in classrooms throughout Connecticut (and beyond), we encourage children to become creative thinkers and lifelong learners. Children engage in our interactive demonstrations, workshops, multi-sensory exhibits, wildlife sanctuary, and other special events. Our unique Children’s Museum Preschool, located within our West Hartford campus, integrates science experiences into early childhood learning. Nearby Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton offers animal and environmental exhibits, nature programs, birthday parties, scout activities, concerts, hiking, bird watching, cross-country skiing, and is home to our Wildlife Clinic. 4. 4.0 Discovery Museum (80 reviews)
    - Lots of potential, but needs some love.
    Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Children's Museums
    Discovery Museum image
Nice small science center for kids packed with potential for fun, but suffering from a little neglect in the maintenance of exhibits. With a little love, it should be easy to make things shine a little more. There was a mobile STEM lab outdoors for paper rocket building (a University of Bridgeport partnership). There is an admission fee that varies by age. Always good to have a community resource like this for family fun and learning. See more..

Interactive, innovative and inclusive museum with hands-on exhibits, observation bee hive, the Great Green Room from Goodnight Moon, and a post office. Each of the 8 exhibits is inspired by the Theory of Multiple Intelligences, articulated by Harvard psychologist, Howard Gardner. This is a rich and resourceful, cutting edge educational theory, which recognizes the multiplicity of children's intelligences and honors the different ways children learn. See more..

  9. 4.5 New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park (7 reviews)
    - Hidden treasure
    Children's Museums
We visited here on a Thursday afternoon with four generations. This is an extremely well designed and expansive children's activity center/animal refuge. Museum does not do it the service it deserves. We had individualized service from Holly who showed us many animals and allowed us to pet them. She was calm and knowledgeable. For the number of animals there, inside and out, the facility was remarkably absent of smell on a hot August day. The animals were obviously well cared for. The museum part could be enjoyed by those 2 to 15 with no problem. It would be a shorter visit for the older crowd. We were there for two hours and didn't even get to the playground or outdoor garden. If I lived in the area this would become a regular spot to visit and I would become a member with no question. 10. 3.5 Eli Whitney Museum (7 reviews)
    - Fun for kids
Spent 1-2 hours Science Museums • Children's Museums
The train exhibit in mid-winter is smallish but fun for little ones. They do fun birthday parties and activities involving building items out of wood bits (not requiring special skills and emphasizing safety) as well as workshops on building larger things for the older set. The "museum" designation is principally based on the model of a mill and the cotton gin example provided with information about Whitney's role in originating the latter. See more..
