  4. 4.0 Fort Stamford Park - Goodbody Garden (26 reviews)
    - A pleasant way to spend a couple of hours
    Gardens
Fort Stamford Park - Goodbody Garden image
This is a small gem on Westover avenue. The former location of the Goodbody mansion, the garden remains and is well tended by the Stamford Garden Club. The garden is a formal and beautiful and has blooms during the whole growing season. It also has historical significance as it was the site of Fort Stamford during the revolutionary war. You can still make out the four points of the fort. There is even a well maintained building off to the side which I understand the city rents out for parties. See more..

  9. 3.5 Scotts Orchard and Nursery (3 reviews)
    - Large selection of plants and shrubs.
    Gardens
Scotts is nearby to me and I often check out their selections of plants and shrubs. They have a wide and varied selection including perennials, annuals, vegetables, as well as trees and shrubs. I have bought quite a few things here over the years. They are likely to have most of what you are looking for. Their prices are higher than many other places, especially for bagged items like fertilizers, potting soil, etc. However their extensive selection and nearby location often draws me to purchase here. Convenience to me is the reason. I would also note that Scotts is family run. The staff is friendly. They are also knowledgeable about their stock and can offer advice on various selections you many want to make. See more..

  13. 4.0 Promisek's Historic Garden (1 review)
    - Hidden Treasure Property where the Housatonic and Shepaug Rivers Meet
    Spent 1-2 hours Gardens
    Promisek's Historic Garden image
A formal stonewalled garden designed by Beatrix Farrand in 1921, this garden was brought back to life in 1992. The stone walkways make browsing through the garden, a beautiful mixture of perennials and annuals, very easy. Be sure to go through the gate in the back to see the teardrop shaped pool, amphitheater, and pergola that were once used in the 1930s. Although officially only open on the last Sunday in June (CT Garden Day), this garden welcomes visitors who call ahead and make an appointment for a tour. See more..

What a lovely place. The tea selection is unmatched. It is a wonderfully relaxing experience. The owner is lovely and the most knowledgable person about teas that I have ever met. It's a bit out of the way but WELL worth the visit. She also offers tea-tasting events. See more..
  15. 2.0 Holley-Williams House (1 review)
    - This museum closed, was sold, and is now a private residence
    Gardens • History Museums
When it was still open it was a nice small town museum, mostly dedicated to the history of one local family that was prominent in the iron business many years ago. However, if you weren't a Holley or a Williams, or didn't really find looking around old houses very satisfying, it wasn't the kind of visit you would be apt to repeat. They had an enactor who was very good as a Revolutionary soldier (cannons for the Revolutionary War were made nearby) and really knew his history, but even he couldn't make the site into the attraction I think people hoped it would become.
