  1. 4.0 Santa Claus Village (4.398 reviews)
    - Great Christmas fun
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Santa Claus Village image
It’s a long way to go to see Santa but what a trip. Santa’s Village is free to enter with no strong arm tactics to spend. We queued for about 15 minutes to meet the big man, had a good chat with us all, posed for pictures and got a feat family souvenir. That done we roamed the snow capped village (minus 5C on our day). Highlights were playing with huskie puppies (only a small fee) and seeing sled dogs in action; hitting up the post office to send official Santa approved cards home; petting young reindeer. There’s also a live web cam located right on the arctic circle meridian. We waved to friends back home who were watching and called others to wish happy holidays. Easy to get to by either local bus or taxi. Everyone here were so happy. See more..

Monday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Biking Trails • Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks • Gear Rentals • Ski & Snowboard Areas • Cross-country Ski Areas
    Levi Ski Resort image
Wonderful winter wonderland, really unspoilt, lots of skiing, and winter sports tied to local cultures. Friendly populace, English spoken everywhere, mountain was safe if cold at -20C. Sirkka village is at the foot of the ski slopes and walkable end to end in 20 minutes but bustles regardless. Taxis readily available to the local Elf village and we even met Father Christmas despite being early January. And in its white coat and twilight the countryside is breathtakingly beautiful and eerie. Lots to do, slightly expensive for UK travellers but less so if you were from Switzerland. We’ve had a great time just doing the usual tourist trail, night horse ride, skidoos, snow shoeing, etc. but we’d come back for the skiing. See more..

    Monday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Safaris • Zoos

You can get to the Zoo by bus from Rovaniemi in less than a hour. There is also Fazer chocolate store in the entrance area. I would recommend you to go in less popular days of week. We went on Saturday and it was quite crowded. See more..

    - 2hr Husky safari

    Husky & Co image
My 18 y.o daughter and myself did the 2 hr Husky safari, absolutely loved it. We did the shared ride option where you share the driving and riding as a passenger ( as a passenger you can take great photos) was great to experience both. We had two girls in our group who were nervous about driving but staff were very helpful and at the end of the trip both were glad they had a go at driving the sled.. The two hour trip was long enough to get a good feel for the experience as it was very cold but we didn't " freeze" . Staff were very capable and obviously love their dogs (over 200 dogs and they know all by name) Highly recommend the tour, we finished with a warm drink and cake inside a nice warm building with a fire then visited the puppies. You are supplied with overalls and warm gloves/ boots if required. See more..

    - Combo snowmobile and husky
    Monday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Safaris • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Lapland Safaris Saariselka image
We booked our “Snowmobile safari to Husky kennel” tour which was a unique combination of snowmobile safari and Husky ride. Our guide Bruce did an excellent job of guiding us throughout the long 1hr ride to husky kennel and the way back for another hour. He patiently explained initially the mechanism of riding the snowmobile. As we were new to this he placed us at the front of queue and continuously kept an eye on everyone. Husky ride was wonderful 25 mins of excitement followed by lunch. We had requested for a vegetarian option (Sandwich, soup, dessert and coffee) which they accommodated. Highly recommend this safari as it covers both rides in one tour including a delicious lunch which works out much more economical than taking the individual rides. See more..

  14. 4.5 Northern Lights Riders (288 reviews)
    - Once in alifetime experience.
Safaris • Ski & Snow Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Northern Lights Riders image
We were 2 couples. Booked the tour in Ivalo. The day we booked tour, few hours before the scheduled time we got a call from the company and they rescheduled it for next night due to bad weather. But being tourist and limited time we did not trusted their word and went with another tour company the same night. That night it snowed and we did not see the lights. It was too late to realise the mistake, we should have trusted northern light riders. Next night we went them and saw the lights. Our guide made extra efforts for us. We saw the lights on two different spots. First was not too good. But the second spot blew our minds. Amazing experience with dancing green and red lights all over sky. I wish to see them again some day. Recommended..book them with out any doubt. See more..
  15. 4.5 Icebreaker Sampo (279 reviews)
    - Would recommend
    Boat Tours
    Icebreaker Sampo image
A really enjoyable experience, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. The tour was informative, and my boyfriend who is an engineer was fascinated by how the ship worked and seeing the engine and control rooms. Getting suited up for the ice floating was a bit chaotic, which is the reason for me giving four stars. There is not much room in the changing rooms, and after taking off coats/boots etc there was a while of standing around which was the only time I felt cold. The floating itself was relaxing and a great experience. I have seen a few reviews saying that the time on the boat was too long, but I could have done with another hour or so to fully appreciate the ship and its views. There is a restaurant area and bar area on board to visit and warm if in between exploring the decks if needed. We took the afternoon tour from Kemi, and in the winter this does not include any lunch. There are a few snacks available to buy onboard (crisps, pastries) but I would recommend to eat a big breakfast, or eat lunch beforehand. See more..

  27. 4.5 Kopara Reindeer Park (122 reviews)
    - Highlight of our trip
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Kopara Reindeer Park image
This was my favorite part of our trip to Lapland (on a 3 day tour with Cantebury). My only complaint is that I wish we had been able to stay a bit longer. We were lucky to have had our sleigh ride coincide with sunrise and the views were just breathtaking. It was straight out of a fairytale. After our ride, we were treated to a little talk about the life of reindeer farmers and some hot berry juice. Because we were on a tight time frame, we didn't have much time to feed and see the reindeer as I would liked but that is understandable since there was a lot on the agenda. This part of the tour was my favorite part of the trip - a truly memorable experience that was both beautiful and fascinating. See more..

    Yllas Ski Resort image
I hadnt skied for 20 years and was a bit apprehensive. However from the rental shop to the lift passes, the uplift, the pistes and the great cafes it was brilliant. Excellent quaility skis and boots. The t bar tows, which I remembered from at home could take the legs from under you, were smooth and easy. Sadly it was too windy for the gondola so can’t comment. Even better no massive queues and no jostling for places! Beautifully groomed pistes and excellent cafes for a much needed hot chocolate and a “Munkii”. (Wrong spelling but a delicious enormous doughring). Highly recommend, great for families. We were with a Finnish family who were introducing their tinies to downhill skiing and it was perfect. 30. 4.5 Lake Inari (103 reviews)
    - A gorgeous destination in Lapland
    Bodies of Water
    Lake Inari image
If you're looking for a beautiful and peaceful destination for kayaking/boating/fishing in Lapland look no further. There are over 3000 islands in this huge lake and most of them are totally uninhabited. There are many free well equipped camping areas to choose from. You can sleep in the wilderness cabins but it's better to have you own tent too. The lake is also great for fishing and with some effort it is possible to eat fresh fish every night. There's also a cool ice cave on the island called "Korkia Maura". The icy floor of the cave has been frozen for over 500 years. This cave alone is a sight worth visiting. Just remember that this lake can turn it's beautiful mirror surface into a sea of rough dwelling waves in no time. See more..

    Ounasvaaran Hiihtokeskus Oy image
Our first time skiing and it couldn’t have went better. Ounasvaara were so accommodating, our package, time and date was booked easily via email. We booked the “easy 45” package for €99 each. This included ski lessons for 45 mins, ski equipment and our ski pass for the full day. The instructor, Sanna, was lovely, went above and beyond for us even helping us put on equipment. My 7 year was nervous and apprehensive about coming but Sanna instantly put her at ease, she helped her up the “magic carpet” and took the time to help her and guide her, by the end of the lesson my 7 year old was going up and coming down independently. Sanna also made sure to use our names which I felt was an extremely approachable way of teaching, some wouldn’t bother asking names of a group of 4 never mind remember them. She was fantastic and made our first ski experience doable and enjoyable. Slopes were well managed and we had no issues at all during our stay. See more..

    - Interesting. Good views from restaurant
    Spent 2-3 hours History Museums
    Samiland image
We were in Levi for a week’s ski holiday but as it was our first time in the Arctic region we wanted to learn about the culture. The museum is at the top of a gondola at zero point or you can walk up to it. The ticket purchase was a little confusing. We went to the museum and then had to go back up to the cafe to buy the ticket. Exhibits interesting for an adult who is happy to read and look at images. Not sure how kids would find it. Learned about some of the Sami tribes and would have liked to know more about the others. Some artefacts and models in costumes. You can go outside to feed the reindeer. It wasn’t clear about going outside.. it was very, very slippy and despite having all the gear on we didn’t quite get to the reindeers, let alone the rest of the outside area. We knew there was a free drink included as we’d read in advance but we had to ask for it when we returned the ticket. It wasn’t offered. Worth a visit, but don’t expect too much. See more..
  38. 4.5 Ivalo Safaris (76 reviews)
    - Great Experience, Beautiful Memories
Monday: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM Ski & Snow Tours • Night Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Ivalo Safaris image
I had great time in Ivalo. Most of all safaris I like snowmobile riding. That was really cool! If I had it at the beginning of my stay I’d definitely request more of it. Husky safari also was very nice, however, they are not very fast, and in low temperature I couldn’t take for longer than 2 hours. Reindeers are quite slow, but it’s a beautiful experience, too. Snow tank is the best for Aurora hunting, as it’s warm inside and it’s got a glass ceiling, which allows watching the Northern Lights for longer. There’s also skiing, horse riding. No one can get bored there, especially if you like winter and you are not afraid of low temperatures! See more..

    Wilderness Safaris Saariselka image
Booked 4 excursions with Wilderness Safaris Saariselka. Not disappointed with any! Upon arrival in Saariselka they supplied a snowmobile suit, gloves, boots and a balaclava to use for the whole week. Ice fishing provided no fish but did provide a great experience with snowmobiling, drilling the hole for fishing and enjoying hot juice, hot sandwiches and sausages over an open fire in a comfortable hut. First excursion to view the Northern lights on snowmobiles wsa cloudy and so no lights but still a great adventure on snowmobiles. The other 2 excursions, via a van to a remote lake and snowshoeing did provide great views of the Northern Lights. All the guides spoke great English, provided welcomed hot juices and food and took pictures that we could download. This was very important as my camera did not capture the lights that well. You must have a tripod and a DSLR that allows 30 second exposures at small F Stop values (2.n - 3.n) to take your own successfully. See more..
