    Last time in Luosto we climbed to Ukko-Luosto, Luosto (514 meters high). There are nice wooden steps, start from the end of the Ukko-Luostontie. Better be fit to climb there though!     - Absolutely lovely half day hike near Särkijärvi/Muonio

    Walked up to the "summit" of Särkitunturi on a nice and sunny day in late July. I got a car ride from Muonio to the parking at the trailhead in the morning and took the bus back to Muonio from Särkijärvi bus stop (about 3 km walk from the trailhead) in the afternoon. It's a very popular hike, so expect a lot of other people on the trail, especially from noon on. But it's worth it, the landscape is beautiful, the trail is easy going all along, first through forest, passing by a nice big "kota" shelter and fire place (+ outhouse), steadily uphill to and above the tree line into beautiful landscape with amazing views. The established trails ends at the lake, but if you walk on slightly to the right, there are some paths that will lead you to the highest point. See more..
