The Särestöniemi Museum environment consists of several buildings, of which the most important are the Särestöniemi family farm and Reidar Särestöniemi's studio and gallery. Old and new mix and match in the museum area. The Särestöniemi farm from the 19th century represents the traditional way of building in the North of Finland, whereas the gallery and studio, both designed in the 1970's by the acclaimed Finnish architects Reima and Raili Pietilä, join the tradition of modern Finnish architecture and its ideal of harmony with the surrounding environment. The personality of Reidar Särestöniemi has been used as the starting point for the newer buildings in the Särestöniemi area. The studio, where the artist both lived and worked, was preceded by an earlier studio that was destroyed by a fire in 1977. The foundations of this old studio can be seen in the museum area.See more..
