We were in Levi for a week’s ski holiday but as it was our first time in the Arctic region we wanted to learn about the culture. The museum is at the top of a gondola at zero point or you can walk up to it. The ticket purchase was a little confusing. We went to the museum and then had to go back up to the cafe to buy the ticket. Exhibits interesting for an adult who is happy to read and look at images. Not sure how kids would find it. Learned about some of the Sami tribes and would have liked to know more about the others. Some artefacts and models in costumes. You can go outside to feed the reindeer. It wasn’t clear about going outside.. it was very, very slippy and despite having all the gear on we didn’t quite get to the reindeers, let alone the rest of the outside area. We knew there was a free drink included as we’d read in advance but we had to ask for it when we returned the ticket. It wasn’t offered. Worth a visit, but don’t expect too much. See more..

    Forestry Museum of Lapland image
When looking for something different and interesting activity in Rovaniemi, welcome to the Forestry Museum of Laplands unique stage for history. It is the only museum in the world that tells a story of Lapland's great logging era extending from 1870's all the way through to machine operated forestry of 1960's-1970's. In the wooded museum area there are genuine logging cabins, logging tools, timber floating tools and forestry machines on display. Forest cabins and other buildings have been transferred to the museum's location from various parts of Lapland and all the cabins, stables and saunas have their own interesting history. Also the items on display have their own story: one of the most interesting and impressive items on the museum's ground is Sandberg's steam locomotive that was perhaps the first of its kind used on machine operated logging sites in Finland. Open 1.9. - 28.12.2018 fri-sat, 09am - 3pm See more..

Salla Museum of War & Reconstruction image
Salla Museum of War and Reconstruction is located in a building that was originally made 1948 for railway workers and their families. The Museum's exhibition tells about the history of Salla municipality which was known as Kuolajärvi until year 1936. Salla was involved in the Second World War (1939–1944) and suffered heavy destructions. An enormous effort was made to rebuild the municipality – by the year 1950 nearly 400 new farms, many schools and a church were built. See more..

    Skolt Sámi Heritage House image
Skolt Sámi Heritage House and Open-Air Museum (Kolttien talo) are situated in the center of Sevettijärvi Village. The admission is free. The Heritage House was built in the late 1940's and it was moved to the premises from Lake Kirakkajärvi in the 1990's. It is a typical example of a Skolt Sámi homestead. The Heritage House has limited opening hours but it is possible to visit the interesting open-air museum in other times, too. This is a very charming and interesting place. I especially loved the root-sewn boat made of pinewood without any nails. It was built using root seams and wooden tenons. See more..

The Local History Museum of the Posio Municipality is located on the southern shores of Lake Kitkajarvi in the village of Lohiranta - a place worth a visit for its cultural environment and landscapes.
