Interesting. Good views from restaurant

We were in Levi for a week’s ski holiday but as it was our first time in the Arctic region we wanted to learn about the culture. The museum is at the top of a gondola at zero point or you can walk up to it. The ticket purchase was a little confusing. We went to the museum and then had to go back up to the cafe to buy the ticket. Exhibits interesting for an adult who is happy to read and look at images. Not sure how kids would find it. Learned about some of the Sami tribes and would have liked to know more about the others. Some artefacts and models in costumes. You can go outside to feed the reindeer. It wasn’t clear about going outside.. it was very, very slippy and despite having all the gear on we didn’t quite get to the reindeers, let alone the rest of the outside area. We knew there was a free drink included as we’d read in advance but we had to ask for it when we returned the ticket. It wasn’t offered. Worth a visit, but don’t expect too much.

    Exhibition and reindeers
If interests in the history of the area then this is your exhibition and reindeers were really cute especially when you have food to feed them......ideal if want a break from skiing as at the top of the first gondola in Levi centre

    Superb Samiland
As a former museum and gallery curator I can appreciate a excellent exhibition when I find it. Tickets are to be found upstairs in the gorgeous cafe with a tremendous view over Sirkka. This has many excellent points to start with it is truly multilingual. There are lots of infornation boards with photos of Sami people and Sami cultures. Just the right amount so you are not swamped but leave feeling you know more about it. There are costumed Saami figures going about their daily business and there are buildings inside too to give the visitor a feel of being in one. Add to this a haunting drumbeat which plays in the background and makes you feel like you are in the company of the Sami. Outside around the hill are examples of different Sami houses and storage you can explore lit with gorgeous lighting for the prettiest effects. My boys and I love this museum. We went two years ago when we were last in Levi and on our return we were still were talking about it. Plus you get to feed reindeer lichen and that's probably worth the price itself. Inside the toilets are excellent too and there is an excellent lift for wheelchairs. Also excellent is the free drink included in the price so you can enjoy that awesome view from the cafe. Souvenirs are also to be found at the cafe. I cannot express just how excellent Samiland is and I would strongly recommended you visit.
