5.0Urho Kekkonen National Park(188 reviews) - Wilderness on a close range Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours National Parks • Hiking Trails • Ski & Snowboard Areas
As the second biggest National Park in Finland this park offers peace and tranquility just few steps from the center of Saariselkä village. You have easy walking routes coming to the border and then short and longer snowshoeing trail. Short one you can do on any weather but the longer one takes you up on the fjell so you don't want to take that in a bad weather. Skiing tracks are going more deeply inside the park. At the summer hiking routes are going everywhere.See more..
confined.investigates.quells is the what3words to the parking area. Set off down the path and take a right to do the loop anticlockwise finishing at the bridge and rapids. Lovely forest and river, mostly on easy surface. Clearly signed.See more..
4.0Tsahkal Falls(13 reviews) - Beautiful waterfalls only one kilometer from a parking place Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
Tsahkal Falls (also known as Tsahkalputous and Cahkaljohka) is a series of small waterfalls which are 0.5-3 meters high. So they are small but very beautiful. Tsahkal Falls are situated near the bridge on the hiking route between Saana Fell and Luontotalo (Kilpisjarvi Visitor Centre). However, it is easiest to get there from the village shop of Kilpisjärvi (K-Market Kilpishalli) and restaurant Ravintola Kilpis. You can leave your car at the parking place of the village shop (address Käsivarrentie 14219). A path of Kalottireitti Trail to Halti begins next to the parking place (between the parking place and Urpiaisentie Street). Follow this path 1 kilometer and you will find Tsahkal Falls. I and my teenage son loved Tsahkal Falls very much. They are easy to visit and very beautiful.See more..
5.0Keimiötunturi Fell(8 reviews) - Great hike with rewarding view Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
They weren't kidding when they said it was steep! But the view was definitely worth it! Took us bit less than two hours to go up and down again, including a short geocaching stop ;) it was very beautiful with a bit of snow already at the top. See more..
4.5Pyhä-Nattanen Fell(7 reviews) - Excellent vista from the summit Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
Went up one evening and again the following morning as we were so impressed. Bitterly cold even in June but the little hut provided a welcome refuge from the storm! See more..
4.5Ruijanpolku Trail(7 reviews) - Great snow shoe route Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
Today we took the 5 euro ski bus from Saariselka to Kiilopaa. Beautiful bus journey through a winter wonderland. Bus dropped us right by the start of the Ruijanpolku Trail where there are several information boards giving details of winter walking, snow shoe and cross country ski routes. You can hire equipment from the hotel next to the trail, there is also a campsite and hostel. We decided to walk the 7.5 km snow shoe route up to the top of the fell at 500 plus meters, hardwork in the snow but the views from the top are definitely worth it. We followed a clear marked route all the way back to the fell hotel and then enjoyed the smoke sauna and a dip in the ice plunge pool a fantastic day out.See more..
Smaller/quicker climb compared to Saana. Less crowded, but still with a nice view, walking distance to the "peak" from the city centre. See more..

4.5Sallatunturi Snowshoe Route(2 reviews) - The most beautiful snowshoe trail ever Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
Sallatunturi Snowshoe Trail is 5 kilometers long. It starts from Tunturikummuntie parking place (from the same point with Kappahanoja winter biking track). You can rent snowshoes from Salla Ski Center and walk to Tunturikummuntie parking place. The snowshoe trail is maintained well with snowmobiles. So it is very easy to walk there, often even without snowshoes. The trail climbs onto Fell Big Sallatunturi (Iso Sallatunturi). There is a wooden observation tower there. It is free and open 24/7. Views are breathtakingly marvelous! It was interesting to see snow-covered trees and many fells (Lapp mountains) around Fell Big Sallatunturi.See more..
5.0The Pahtajarvi Trail(2 reviews) - The hidden gem: The Pahtajärvi Gorge Lake Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails
The Pahtajärvi Trail starts from Fell Lapland Visitor Centre. This little used hiking trail is a bit over 18 kilometers long and it takes about 4-6 hours. The route is marked with blue marks. The gorge lake of Pahtajärvi is the highlight of this hiking trail. The gorge is less than 100 meters wide but it is over 1 kilometer long and 25 meters deep. The other interesting natural sight is Hiekkatievat, a beautiful ridge with sand dunes. Notice that there aren't any services on the route. So remember to take drinking water and something to eat with you. The Pahtajärvi Lapp hut was closed during summer but the lean-to shelter of Närpistö with a campfire was in use. Firewood is available but you need own matchsticks. We grilled sausages under the midnight sun at the campfire of Närpistö. It was an immemorial moment which I will never forget.See more..
We parked at Santa Sport in Rovaniemi and crossed the road to pick up this beautiful and well marked trail. It was a glorious sunny but cold day and the snow was plentiful, a real winter wonderland. The trail winds through the forest, passes a ski area, passes a wooden observation tower that offers lovely views and passes the odd lean-to and campfire site. The entire trail is about 6km long, but it is well groomed and an easy walk. It is a beautiful area, just so pretty under snow and so close to town, a great way to stretch your legs and enjoy nature.See more..
Day trip destination in the visinity of Savukoski’s village. The length of the trail is 5,8 km, it takes approx. 2,5 hours to finish it in a leisurely pace. At the midpoint the trail diverges and hikers who want more length and challenge can go to the Sotonportti extra lap, which is 4 km in length.See more..
There are 160 kilometers of cross-country skiing tracks in Salla (43 kilometers of them are illuminated). We chose a cross-country skiing track from Salla Ski Center (Sallatunturin Tuvat) to Fell Ruuhitunturi and back. The total distance was 16 kilometers. You can also choose a longer track (Salla Ski Center - Fell Ruuhitunturi - Salla Reindeer Park - Salla Ski Center), which is 20 kilometers long. We had a break in Ruuhitunturi Ski Cafe (also known as Ruuhitunturi Wilderness Cafe and Ruuhitunturin Kahvila). We ate very delicious doughnuts and drank warm juice there. They also have a room for accommodation. So you can stay overnight there if you want but you should book it in advance. It is only 500 meters from the ski cafe to the observation tower of Ruuhitunturi. Cross-country skiing tracks are maintained very well. Views are extremely beautiful. I especially loved trees covered with huge amounts of snow. The snow depth on the ground was 120 centimeters. So you shouldn't go there if you haven't trained cross-country skiing. Instead of it you can take a snowmobile safari there.See more..
