  1. 4.5 Auttiköngäs (42 reviews)
    - Great winter walk
    Waterfalls
    Auttiköngäs image
We took a drive down from Rovaniemi which took just over an hour. Easy to find. We only saw two other couples on the entire 3.5km trail - if was a cold day with snow around which perhaps puts the locals off visiting. The cafe was closed. The trail is very well marked and once you are away from the force of the dam and former log chute, there are literally no sounds other than nature to disturb. An inquisitive reindeer followed us for a while but given it was winter the rest of nature was keeping warm elsewhere. There are a few steps up and down and as it was slippery underfoot we covered the route in a steady 2.5 hours. A lovely way to take in the fresh air and see some of Finland’s natural beauty. 2. 4.0 Tsahkal Falls (13 reviews)
    - Beautiful waterfalls only one kilometer from a parking place
Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
    Tsahkal Falls image
Tsahkal Falls (also known as Tsahkalputous and Cahkaljohka) is a series of small waterfalls which are 0.5-3 meters high. So they are small but very beautiful. Tsahkal Falls are situated near the bridge on the hiking route between Saana Fell and Luontotalo (Kilpisjarvi Visitor Centre). However, it is easiest to get there from the village shop of Kilpisjärvi (K-Market Kilpishalli) and restaurant Ravintola Kilpis. You can leave your car at the parking place of the village shop (address Käsivarrentie 14219). A path of Kalottireitti Trail to Halti begins next to the parking place (between the parking place and Urpiaisentie Street). Follow this path 1 kilometer and you will find Tsahkal Falls. I and my teenage son loved Tsahkal Falls very much. They are easy to visit and very beautiful. See more..
  3. 5.0 Jäniskoski Rapids (1 review)
    - Easily accessible but very beautiful rapids
    Waterfalls
    Jäniskoski Rapids image
Jäniskoski Rapids and Ritakoski Rapids are the most beautiful rapids in Inari, I think. Jäniskoski Rapids are easily accessible. Just drive to the parking place of Kittilä Road (address Kittiläntie 156) and walk a couple of hundred meters. The trail is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, too. There is also an accessible suspension bridge over River Juutua (Juutuanjoki) and Jäniskoski Rapids. We didn't drive to Jäniskoski Rapids. They are situated along the circle hiking trail named Juutua Trail (Juutuan polku). We walked along Juutua Trail from the center of Inari (Tradition Hotel Kultahovi). The total length of Juutua Trail is 5.8 kilometers but we chose the more challenging side path from Jäniskoski Rapids to Otsamo Fell. View was absolutely stunning there. Read separate Tripadvisor reviews about Otsamo Fell. Jäniskoski Rapids are a very nice place to relax. It is wonderful to watch and listen to the rapids. There is also a good campfire site next to the rapids. View is very beautiful from there, too. The Finnish word jänis means a hare and koski means rapids. So literally the name is Hare Rapids. It is because the crests of whitewater are like hares running around in the dark. See more..
