4.5Walls of Dubrovnik(24.3k reviews) - Beautiful Views Sunday: 8:00 AM - 7:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Historic Walking Areas
Constructed over a 500-year period mainly during the 12th and 17th centuries, the Walls of Dubrovnik are amongst the most extensive and well-preserved fortifications in Europe. Stretching over 6000 feet, the uninterrupted course offers fantastic views of the coastal city. There's little shelter from the sun, so visit during the cooler months or evenings to beat the heat and for fewer crowds. You can purchase tickets from any City Wall entrance, but a Dubrovnik Pass is convenient and offers great value. A guided tour also often includes a walking tour of the Old Town as well. – TripadvisorSee more..
4.5Old Town(18.9k reviews) - A unique and interesting city! Neighborhoods
Fascinating and attractive city which I covered comfortably in two days. The view from the top of the cable car is wonderful and the city walls well worth walking around (2 kilometres) although in one part did get a bit of vertigo! The city is not cheap though - cable car costs 200 kn (approx £22) and visiting the City Walls 250 kn (approx £28). Good choice of restaurants but those inside the city walls are expensive. Recommend to visit if possible when there are not many cruise ships in town as the city can get super super busy especially in the mornings with so many group tours.See more..
4.5Dubrovnik Cable Car(12.9k reviews) - Cable Car at Sunset Temporarily closed - Closed until Apr 1, 2023 Trams
Running year-round, the Dubrovnik Cable Car has been taking travelers up to the top of Mount Srd since 1969. In just four short minutes, you'll reach the peak and be treated to breathtaking views of Dubrovnik, the Adriatic Sea and more. At the top, check out the fortress and dine with a view at Panorama Restaurant, exceptionally stunning at sunset. For the best value, choose a tour that combines the cable car, Old Town walking tour and the Dubrovnik City Walls. Plan your visit during off-peak seasons for fewer crowds, or right when the cable car opens. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.5Lokrum Island(7.969 reviews) - Great for a break away from the city Islands
Lokrum Island, home to a botanical garden, salt lake, and Benedictine monastery dating back at least to 1023, is a great escape from the bustle of Dubrovnik. Travelers and locals alike visit this island for its idyllic walking paths, natural swimming pools, and colorful peacocks. It’s also popular among Game of Thrones fans as the filming location for Qarth. A perfect day trip, boats regularly leave from Dubrovnik's Old Town port and take just 15 minutes to get to Lokrum. An additional entrance fee is required on the island. Lokrum is busiest in the summer vacation months of July and August. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.0Krka National Park(5.111 reviews) - Good gentle walk with spectacular views onto the Skradinski Buk waterfall Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours National Parks
Host to a wide range of wildlife, this nature reserve along the lower Krka River is known for its pristine waterfalls. Hop on a 25-minute ferry ride from the entrance to reach the Skradinski buk waterfall—the park’s main attraction. You won’t get to swim at this waterfall, but you can join a boat tour to the Roski Slap falls afterward and have a refreshing dip in the crystal clear pools. Don’t miss the quiet hiking trails within the park too. Krka National Park is about 55 miles from Split, making it a fantastic day trip when visiting southern Croatia. – TripadvisorSee more..
Stayed on Trogir waterfront after sailing from Malta, this place is truly lovely. Picturesque, vibrant, lots of great eateries that can accommodate a large family ( 8) without bookings. Days were spent wandering up and down the cobbled streets each time finding a new restaurant , bar or ice cream shop to pass the time away people watching. Also loved that after midnight it quietened down considerably ( on the waterfront )but there was some night time places not far away for my twenty something kids to enjoy. And a great market to enjoy open every day. Definitely a place for all the family young and old to visit.See more..
4.5Old Split(3.311 reviews) - Get lost… Historic Sites
And I mean that in the nicest possible way. A maze of back alleys and small squares the old historic section of Split is a great area just to explore aimlessly and see what you find next, with the safety net that you will eventually come out somewhere where it is easy to get back on the main drag. Full of restaurants, cafes and bars there are plenty of spots to stop and refuel and watch people walk by. Unfortunately the downside is that there are plenty of them as well, especially when there are cruise ships in Split, which sadly is a regular occurrence nowadays. Croatia’s rush to expand its tourism industry is in danger of ruining the prized assets that attract people here in the first place. But you cannot penalise those assets just because of that and Split Old town is definitely a five star attraction. I just hope for your sakes that there are no cruise ships in when you visit so that you can enjoy it.See more..
We took our car on the morning ferry($55) from Split and drove 37 km over the island to Bol and down to this popular beach. It was quiet with free access in the off season especially with today’s light rain. We walked the overlook to view the nudist beach and the beautiful 400 m “Tongue of the Golden Gate” which from this distance could be delightful sand but in reality is made up of small pebbles. Nice stone church from 1720 with cats in control and an odd bronze monument of a basket carrying donkey.See more..
4.5Marjan Park(3.016 reviews) - PLEASE feed the animals at the zoo! Sunday: 9:00 AM - 7:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
Often referred to as the “lungs of the city”, this green forest oasis west of Split's old town area is a favorite amongst locals for hiking, biking, swimming, and rock climbing. The serene walk up to Telegrin peak includes 314 steps and rewards you with stunning panoramic views of the city and the Adriatic Sea. Remember to wear comfortable walking shoes, if not, there's always the tourist train that can take you straight to the top. Take your time to explore the other cool trails—pitstops include an old Jewish cemetery, quaint churches, cave dwellings, a museum dedicated to local sculptor Ivan Mestrovic, and some of Split's best beaches. – TripadvisorSee more..
4.5Cavtat Old Town(2.687 reviews) - A quiet option to visiting Dubrovnik Neighborhoods
Cavtat pronounced Savtat, Yeah I didn't know either is a very much chilled out option if you want to visit Dubrovnik but don't want the masses. A lovely small town on the seaside. Get the bus or an uber or even the wee ferry (much more fun) if you want to visit Dubrovnik. In town most larger apartments are on the hill so a good walk uphill to and fro not so good if you can't walk so well, more apartments right in town. There isn't too much to see in Cavtat but lots of restaurants beaches and hiking will see you through, hire a boat, take a larger boat trip, only thing with the boat trips in Sept or any month with bad weather is windy conditions means no boats. That doesn't happen often. A great quiet option to Dubrovnik.See more..
4.5Stradun(2.653 reviews) - The high street Medieval style… Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
Stradun constitutes the Main Street in the old city, paved with some of the shiniest slippery limestone you will ever see. In the day it’s a useful orientation point, by night some of the cities more interesting busking can be witnessed from classical music duo’s to owl handlers and a group of men blowing horns and clacking ratchets! Don’t miss the little balancing stone just outside the friars monastery either. Bookmarked by Big Onofrio’s fountain at one end and the Sponza palace at the other, it’s definitely worth a stroll.See more..
4.5Tvrdava Fortica(2.626 reviews) - Fantastic views from the fort Historic Sites • Lookouts
Also known as Hvar Spanish Fortress, this stronghold is located on a former Illyrian settlement. Getting to the peak involves a steep but scenic climb up some cobbled switchback roads—a journey made much easier by rental vehicle or taxi, or by visiting as a stop on an island tour. The fortress is ticketed to enter, and you can explore on your own or join a guided tour for a deeper dive. Either way, enjoy the sweeping views of Croatia's iconic coastline, Hvar's harbor and even the nearby Pakleni islands on a clear day. Time your visit to catch a breathtaking sunset. – TripadvisorSee more..

4.0Pile Gate(2.584 reviews) - Entrance into Dubrovnik Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is the main entrance in to the Dubrovnik Old Town. It is very interesting to see the fortification and the size of the massive city walls here and consider that it has been there since 1537. Although it is now gone, you can easily imagine the draw bridge that once was there. There is a statue of St. Blaise there and then great maps of the city layout hung on the wall. This entrance takes you right to the main street of the city, the Stradun. First thing you come to is a great fountain which, like most fountains in the city, is fed by water from the surrounding hills so it is quite pure and you can fill your water bottles from it.See more..
4.5Cathedral of Saint Domnius(2.485 reviews) - Real History Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues • Churches & Cathedrals
Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split Country Croatia Denomination Roman Catholic Architecture Style Ancient/Romanesque Years built 4th century Clergy The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Sveti Dujam or colloquially Sveti Duje, is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, headed by Archbishop Marin Barišić. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century). The structure itself, built in AD 3See more..
4.5The Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace(1.735 reviews) - Most amazing spot for me... Spent 1-2 hours Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Yes, as other reviewers have said, Diocletian's Palace is the key attraction in Split. However, while the various museums and attractions around this square require kind of pricey admission tickets, this place can be visited and enjoyed for free. There was something about this spot which marked the place where the emperor's royal area ended and the "normal" city began seemed so well preserved. It was so easy to tune out the rest of the world and the other tourists and just image what it must have been like centuries ago. The cathedral towers to one side and the most amazing ruins are right ahead. I did not elect to have a coffee in the coffee shop that sort of ruins the ambiance a bit but I did spend a bit of time here both day and night when it is lit up stunningly!See more..
The city harbor is beautiful by day and by night, seen from above (via the city wall walk) or at ground level. You can book a boat tour with any number of operators, and prices seem somewhat negotiable in the low season, as well as where you go on the tour. There are some benches here and there, so have a seat and watch the people stroll by, fisherman get to work, and others enjoy a nice sail on the lovely Adriatic.See more..
Often called "Dubrovnik's Gibraltar", this hilltop medieval fortress sits perched outside the city walls, on a promontory overhanging the Adriatic Sea. Game of Thrones fans will recognize this as the Red Keep in King's Landing. Catch your breath after the steep climb up, enjoy the breathtaking views of Dubrovnik’s Old Town and West Harbor, and wander the imposing stone corridors and patios. 4.5Korcula Old City(1.367 reviews) - Historic town with unique stepped streets. Points of Interest & Landmarks
We visited here today, arriving on the 10 AM passenger ferry (24 kn each RT) from Orebic. With its convenient landing, we walked to the nearby Porta Maris to climb the Baroque staircase up to the main plaza, the largest level area in Korcula. Besides the artistic Cathedral of St Mark with it's cone shaped ciborium and Tintoretto over the altar, there are the 15th C Bishop’s Palace Treasury, the Town Museum in a 16th C Palace and the map of Marco Polo’s 1271-1295 travels (near his supposed birthplace). We spotted so many wonderfully sculpted stone doorways, window frames and lintels on walks around this town and up to the main 13th C old town gate-tower.See more..
4.5Mount Srđ(1.237 reviews) - Cable car is very expensive but fun and probably your best option in the heat of the day! Mountains • Lookouts
My friend and I opted for different routes for getting up Mount Srd. Both of us agreed that the view from the top was five stars and worth seeing. My friend took the very expensive cable car (160 kn for a return) and said whilst it was a fun experience it was 3.5 minutes either way so price per minute is pretty extortionate! That said, he was happy with his decision and would do it again. I decided to walk up from the Old Town, which was a harder walk than I’d anticipated and very warm (I set off at 2.30pm). It took about 40 mins in total. It started with going up the city steps then across two dual carriageways before the proper walking trail started. I’d recommend wearing trainers or walking boots as the path is quite uneven under foot. I decided to get the cable car back down so we could fit in other sights so hadn’t saved much money from my adventure but enjoyed the sense of achievement!See more..
4.0Zadar Land City Gates(1.185 reviews) - The Land Gate, Zadar Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
The most elaborate of the city gates also has the prettiest setting, facing a sheltered little marina. Dating from 1543, it has Renaissance-style decorations including St Chrysogonus (Zadar's patron saint) on horseback and the Venetian winged lion. The gate is still used by traffic and was clearly meant to impress those entering – the reverse side is decidedly plain. To get a really good view go up the stairs on the side and walk up into the park. Great place to take photos.See more..
4.0Onophrian Fountain(1.165 reviews) - Large Onofrio’s fountain Points of Interest & Landmarks
It’s a beautiful structure that you wil definitely notice upon entering through the Pile Gate. Walking on Stradun takes you there. The water in this fountain “Large Onofrio’s fountain” is drinkable. Most of the articles or information you’ll find call this place Large Onofrio’s fountain or Big Onofrio’s fountain. It’s apparently named after its creator/designer Onofrio della Cava from Naples.See more..
4.5Lapad(1.162 reviews) - Better Option Than Old Town Neighborhoods • Historic Walking Areas
Located on a peninsula, this residential neighborhood is a short bus or ferry ride away from Dubrovnik's Old Town and the surrounding islands. There are many pebble beaches for swimming and water sports along the coastline, some offering paid facilities while others can be accessed for free. Velika and Mala Petka Forest Park in the south offer lush greenery with hiking trails and coastal viewpoints. Consider staying in Lapad as a cheaper, quieter, and greener option over the busier Old Town. The buildings here are modern, and most lodging is situated around Lapad Bay and Babin Kuk. – TripadvisorSee more..
We visited this 2000 UNESCO site today, arriving after the 9 AM service on a cloudy morning. After paying 30 kn each, we walked the bland gloomy interior to inspect its high points; 1589 bishop tomb, 105’ high dome, and the lacy ceiling of the 1473 baptistery. We had taken exterior photos of the Main Portal, Lion Portal, rows of the sculpted heads to the baptistery in yesterday’s afternoon sun. Our tickets included the new Interpretive Center where we spent more time reading the 3 floors of exhibits detailing the 104 year construction of this cathedral, including the primary builders, financial difficulties of raising 80,000 ducats, and the multi-stage process of sculpting solid stones into a row of faces. We strolled the nearby cobbled medieval streets/alleys where “Arya” wandered and fought when blind in several “Game of Thrones” scenes.See more..
4.5Riva Harbor(1.118 reviews) - Got time to kill or looking for a bite to eat - definitely give Riva a look Marinas
Nice promenade stroll along the waterfront with palm trees and benches located every few metres. Plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from. Wide avenue suitable for walking, scooters or baby prams. Lots of small stalls with trinkets and souvenirs. More restaurants, cafes and bars than you can poke a stick at. Something for every budget here. The downside was the smell in the corner where the flotsam from all the boats washes us - a rather pungent smell but it's not everywhere. I personally would not like to visit this in peak summer - it was already busy enough at end of season (September). Definitely worth a stroll if you're working off any jetlag. You can continue further north up and around towards the Marjan beach area (that's a LONG walk away though).See more..

Very smart and trendy coastal town. Great for a half day visit but if you want to just sit and people watch there are plenty of places to do so and you could spend a relaxing full day there. I would recommend the peninsula walk which takes about 45 minutes at a slow stroll. I ate at Restaurant Ivan choosing from their light lunch thank you and it was very good (grilled squid and chips). Nice table overlooking the harbour. Staff very pleasant, very welcoming. Almost certainly wouldn't go back there but well worth the one-off trip.See more..

4.0Rector's Palace(1.017 reviews) - Beautiful building, nice art exhibits, only about a 30 minute stop Historic Sites • History Museums
We visited the Rector's Palace because it was free with the Dubrovnik Card, but as it is one of the few more well-known sites in Old Town, we probably would have popped in regardless. It's a really beautiful building that has Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements, due to suffering damage from fires, explosions and an earthquake in the 15th Century and then different architects rebuilding different areas in their own styles. I wasn't really expecting much, other than recognising another Game of Thrones filming location (Season 2 when Daenerys visits the Spice King's mansion), but it had a lot of interesting art and artifacts to look at as well - largely Italian. It's worth a visit, but will probably only take about 30 minutes to see all there is to see.See more..

We absolutely loved coming to the waterfalls and being able to swim but completely understand the need to stop people swimming to protect it. The banks of the river are being destroyed by people getting in and out of the water. We got the boat over from Skradin, swam, ate lunch in the restaurant, walked the loop around the falls (definitely recommend you do that, it’s stunning) and then walked 5km back to the car at Skradin via a beautiful path alongside the lake. It’s an easy walk to enjoy the scenery.See more..

4.5Ston City Walls(767 reviews) - Excellent views, although you need to be properly prepared in terms of water and footwear Points of Interest & Landmarks
The entry fee is 70 kuna, reduced to 50 kuna, if you have the 3 or 7 day Dubrovnik Pass, so leave this until heading north, if you're starting from Dubrovnik, and are planning to buy the pass in Dubrovnik, as it doesn't seem to be available in Ston. There are two walks you can do, one a short loop, which might take about 20 minutes, and the other, over to Mali Ston, which will take most people perhaps an hour, depending on how hot it is. If you're going to Mali Ston, be sure to take water. It's pretty steep in parts, and there isn't a lot of shelter from the sun, but if you're fit, the views are well worth it. Parking is by the meter in either village, at 8 kuna per hour. I personally thought two hours was sufficient, unless you're planning on eating there.See more..

4.5Punta Rata Beach(577 reviews) - Gorgeous Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Beaches
The beach here is pebbled so take some beach shoes or buy some on the promenade. Once in the water, it's beautiful and clear, fish all around and really really clean too. The beach areas aren't huge so can get busy later but there's still room. We went twice and on the second time got a couple of beds and brolly which cost 70 kuna (absolute peanuts). We also hired a paddleboard for the day which was 500 kuna but split between several families it's good value. There's places to eat along the water, especially if you head south where there's a lot more restaurants. Parking is a challenge. You drive through the hotel car parks to unmarked areas and becomes a free for all. It states 20 kuna an hour but you'll find you can do a deal for 100 kuna for the day. See more..
