Korcula Old City, Dalmatia, Croatia

4.5 (1.367 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Dalmatia Points of Interest & Landmarks

Historic town with unique stepped streets.

We visited here today, arriving on the 10 AM passenger ferry (24 kn each RT) from Orebic. With its convenient landing, we walked to the nearby Porta Maris to climb the Baroque staircase up to the main plaza, the largest level area in Korcula. Besides the artistic Cathedral of St Mark with it's cone shaped ciborium and Tintoretto over the altar, there are the 15th C Bishop’s Palace Treasury, the Town Museum in a 16th C Palace and the map of Marco Polo’s 1271-1295 travels (near his supposed birthplace). We spotted so many wonderfully sculpted stone doorways, window frames and lintels on walks around this town and up to the main 13th C old town gate-tower.

    Lovely little village
Beautiful stop on an island hop. Stayed just 24 hours but loved it Traditional singing club in perfect harmony at night was a happy surprise. Swimming off the little beaches was delightful.

    Historic gem
Lovely old town with Venetian connections and narrow streets , with many historic buildings as well as some fine restaurants . It's very well preserved , almost 'gentrified' one feels , but it is very attractive . Whether Marco Polo was born here or not, it doesn't matter ! The old town is almost surrounded by water and the views are stupendous . One of our party was so entranced he was determined to return and stay for ever . Well worth a visit .
