    - Most amazing spot for me...

The Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace image
Yes, as other reviewers have said, Diocletian's Palace is the key attraction in Split. However, while the various museums and attractions around this square require kind of pricey admission tickets, this place can be visited and enjoyed for free. There was something about this spot which marked the place where the emperor's royal area ended and the "normal" city began seemed so well preserved. It was so easy to tune out the rest of the world and the other tourists and just image what it must have been like centuries ago. The cathedral towers to one side and the most amazing ruins are right ahead. I did not elect to have a coffee in the coffee shop that sort of ruins the ambiance a bit but I did spend a bit of time here both day and night when it is lit up stunningly! See more..
  2. 4.0 Zadar Land City Gates (1.185 reviews)
    - The Land Gate, Zadar

    Zadar Land City Gates image
The most elaborate of the city gates also has the prettiest setting, facing a sheltered little marina. Dating from 1543, it has Renaissance-style decorations including St Chrysogonus (Zadar's patron saint) on horseback and the Venetian winged lion. The gate is still used by traffic and was clearly meant to impress those entering – the reverse side is decidedly plain. To get a really good view go up the stairs on the side and walk up into the park. Great place to take photos. See more..

  4. 4.5 Minceta Fortress (524 reviews)
    - Highest Point Of The Dubrovnik Wall

    Minceta Fortress image
We went to the top of the Minceta Fortress as part of the wall ticket, and after that we went inside (to the gut of it) as part of the Foundry Museum ticket. This is a different experience and well worth the price of admission. We got different views and go to parts of the wall not accessible with the wall ticket. Buy this ticket at the entry point to the museum and not from 3rd parties as you will pay more. The entrance to the Foundry Museum (Gornji Ugau) is on the highest street within the Old Town and right underneath the Minceta Fort top. See more..
  5. 4.0 Five Wells Square (Trg 5 Bunara) (275 reviews)
    - Unusual City Square

Five Wells Square (Trg 5 Bunara) image
The Five Wells Square in Zadar was built in 1574 during the siege of the Ottoman Empire army, when the defensive moat was covered up on the west side of the bastion, previously excavated in the Middle Ages. In its place, a large cistern for drinking water with five decorated wellheads was built, and parts of the aqueduct that used to bring water directly from the Vrana Lake, have been preserved. After the danger had passed, a protective wall was built on the site. On one side is the the entrance to the Queen Jelena Madije Park, and on another the Captain's Tower that rises 26 metres. Their are several places to eat some with upper terraces and the space is large enough to host events such as a concert which was on whilst we were there. See more..

    Knin Fortress image
The Knin fortress is one of the greatest Croatian fortification monuments and it is the second largest military fortification in the whole Europe, extremely indented and preserved in all its parts. It is a living monument of culture that includes a museum, exhibition galleries and a restaurant. The fortress is located 345 m above sea level and about 100 m above the Town of Knin, it is 470 m long, and on its highest part it is 110 m wide. The defensive walls are about 2 km long. See more..
