    Walls of Dubrovnik image
Constructed over a 500-year period mainly during the 12th and 17th centuries, the Walls of Dubrovnik are amongst the most extensive and well-preserved fortifications in Europe. Stretching over 6000 feet, the uninterrupted course offers fantastic views of the coastal city. There's little shelter from the sun, so visit during the cooler months or evenings to beat the heat and for fewer crowds. You can purchase tickets from any City Wall entrance, but a Dubrovnik Pass is convenient and offers great value. A guided tour also often includes a walking tour of the Old Town as well. – Tripadvisor See more..

    Historic City of Trogir image
Stayed on Trogir waterfront after sailing from Malta, this place is truly lovely. Picturesque, vibrant, lots of great eateries that can accommodate a large family ( 8) without bookings. Days were spent wandering up and down the cobbled streets each time finding a new restaurant , bar or ice cream shop to pass the time away people watching. Also loved that after midnight it quietened down considerably ( on the waterfront )but there was some night time places not far away for my twenty something kids to enjoy. And a great market to enjoy open every day. Definitely a place for all the family young and old to visit. See more..
  4. 4.5 Old Split (3.311 reviews)
    - Get lost…
    Historic Sites
    Old Split image
And I mean that in the nicest possible way. A maze of back alleys and small squares the old historic section of Split is a great area just to explore aimlessly and see what you find next, with the safety net that you will eventually come out somewhere where it is easy to get back on the main drag. Full of restaurants, cafes and bars there are plenty of spots to stop and refuel and watch people walk by. Unfortunately the downside is that there are plenty of them as well, especially when there are cruise ships in Split, which sadly is a regular occurrence nowadays. Croatia’s rush to expand its tourism industry is in danger of ruining the prized assets that attract people here in the first place. But you cannot penalise those assets just because of that and Split Old town is definitely a five star attraction. I just hope for your sakes that there are no cruise ships in when you visit so that you can enjoy it. See more..
  5. 4.5 Tvrdava Fortica (2.626 reviews)

    Tvrdava Fortica image
Also known as Hvar Spanish Fortress, this stronghold is located on a former Illyrian settlement. Getting to the peak involves a steep but scenic climb up some cobbled switchback roads—a journey made much easier by rental vehicle or taxi, or by visiting as a stop on an island tour. The fortress is ticketed to enter, and you can explore on your own or join a guided tour for a deeper dive. Either way, enjoy the sweeping views of Croatia's iconic coastline, Hvar's harbor and even the nearby Pakleni islands on a clear day. Time your visit to catch a breathtaking sunset. – Tripadvisor See more..

Cathedral of Saint Domnius in Split Country Croatia Denomination Roman Catholic Architecture Style Ancient/Romanesque Years built 4th century Clergy The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Sveti Dujam or colloquially Sveti Duje, is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The cathedral is the seat of the Archdiocese of Split-Makarska, headed by Archbishop Marin Barišić. The Cathedral of St. Domnius is a complex of a church, formed from an Imperial Roman mausoleum, with a bell tower; strictly the church is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and the bell tower to Saint Domnius. Together they form the Cathedral of St. Domnius. The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, consecrated at the turn of the 7th century AD, is regarded as the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world that remains in use in its original structure, without near-complete renovation at a later date (though the bell tower dates from the 12th century). 8. 4.0 The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik (1.129 reviews)
    - 2000 UNESCO Cathedral.
Historic Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
The Cathedral of St James in Sibenik image
We visited this 2000 UNESCO site today, arriving after the 9 AM service on a cloudy morning. After paying 30 kn each, we walked the bland gloomy interior to inspect its high points; 1589 bishop tomb, 105’ high dome, and the lacy ceiling of the 1473 baptistery. We had taken exterior photos of the Main Portal, Lion Portal, rows of the sculpted heads to the baptistery in yesterday’s afternoon sun. Our tickets included the new Interpretive Center where we spent more time reading the 3 floors of exhibits detailing the 104 year construction of this cathedral, including the primary builders, financial difficulties of raising 80,000 ducats, and the multi-stage process of sculpting solid stones into a row of faces. We strolled the nearby cobbled medieval streets/alleys where “Arya” wandered and fought when blind in several “Game of Thrones” scenes. See more..

  11. 4.0 Rector's Palace (1.017 reviews)
    - Beautiful building, nice art exhibits, only about a 30 minute stop
    Historic Sites • History Museums
    Rector's Palace image
We visited the Rector's Palace because it was free with the Dubrovnik Card, but as it is one of the few more well-known sites in Old Town, we probably would have popped in regardless. It's a really beautiful building that has Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements, due to suffering damage from fires, explosions and an earthquake in the 15th Century and then different architects rebuilding different areas in their own styles. I wasn't really expecting much, other than recognising another Game of Thrones filming location (Season 2 when Daenerys visits the Spice King's mansion), but it had a lot of interesting art and artifacts to look at as well - largely Italian. It's worth a visit, but will probably only take about 30 minutes to see all there is to see. See more..
  12. 4.5 Korcula Island (943 reviews)
    - Beautiful island with great vibes!
    Historic Sites • Islands
    Korcula Island image
This island exudes such a nice energy. Its orange roof tiles and houses with Mediterranean architecture add a pop of color and charm to its pedestrian streets and old town. The restaurants strip on the walkway by the sea is a beautiful walk. The old town, its churches and tower are worth the detour as well. It is as vibrant during the day as in the evening, without being (yet) overcrowded! One of our best stops in Croatia. See more..

  17. 4.5 Starigrad Fortress (410 reviews)
    - Steep hike, but amazing views

    Starigrad Fortress image
During summer, go in the morning hours. The road is not very well maintained, but can be done even by smaller children. The path is quite steep and rocks are loose, so can get slippery especially downwards. Wear good shoes and bring plenty of water. The fortress is not such a big thing, but the trip and the view will compensate for that. There are zero services on the top (not even a toilette), but a guy will still charge some entrance fee. 19. 4.0 Visovac Monastery (120 reviews)
    - excellent
    Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Visovac Monastery image
Visovac is a little island owned by the Catholic Church, situated in the area of the lower flow of the river Krka between two waterfalls in Krka National Park - the Roski waterfall and Skradinski buk. Prior to human habitation of the island, it was only a "White rock" in the middle of the lake. It got today's shape thanks to the work of the priests that brought the land to the shallow water and separated it from the water with a wall, so the island with its vegetation became a "little paradise".
