  2. 4.5 Deutsches Eck (German Corner) (2.156 reviews)
    - German pride corner
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Deutsches Eck (German Corner) image
Koblenz by itself isn't terribly attractive (it was hit hard in World War II), but its place at the historic Deutsches Eck ("German Corner") - the tip of land where the Mosel River joints the Rhine - gives it a certain patriotic charm. This spot became truly legendary. I was truly impressed at the power of this place, and an unfathomable source of pride seized me. For many Germans, this spot stirs their nationalistic spirit and they come here to feel good about their country while enjoying the organ grinders and buskers playing accordions in this park-like atmosphere. And in fact, this place can be named German Pride Corner. Must see it in Koblenz!! See more..

  4. 4.5 Speyer Cathedral (1.182 reviews)
    - Impressive Romanesque Cathedral in Speyer
Sunday: 11:30 AM - 5:30 PM Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Speyer Cathedral image
The cathedral St. Mary and St. Stephen in Speyer is church that is unique in its spiritual, architectural, and historical dimensions. Day for day this house of God, founded in the 11th century, casts its spell on people, serves as a site of contemplation and prayer, and testifies to the legacy of romanesque architecture. Furthermore, the cathedral of Speyer is the gravesite of Salian, Staufer, and Habsburg rulers, thus functioning as a symbol of the medieval emperorship. In 1981, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. As an episcopal church, the cathedral of Speyer is the spiritual centre of the diocese Speyer. Built in the Middle Ages as a house (Latin: domus) of God, to this very day its entire architecture serves to lead mankind to the Lord: the floor plan, the decoration, and all measurements serve this purpose. As an episcopal cathedral church, as the cathedral's parish church, as a place of pilgrimage: mass is celebrated here every day of the week. See more..

  6. 4.5 Marksburg (997 reviews)
    - Wow
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Castles
    Marksburg image
The castle is very well maintained. You can't get into the tower and upper quarters since it is inhabited, but there is a lot to see with the rest of it. These are guided tours so you are not going to be able to spend lots of time in places but you are there and able to see a lot and the history you learn of the Castle is interesting. It overlooks the river and has a good view of the valley. There are spots that can be slippery since it is built on the rock and if it is raining it can be treacherous. Not a easy walk if you have disabilities with walking. See more..
  7. 4.5 Nurburgring (809 reviews)
    - 24 Hr Race

    Nurburgring image
I was not sure what to make of this before going, following it I struggle to explain it. 230,000 people over the weekend. Incredibly friendly activity, as much about racing as a social meet up with friends for a week was the statement from many people we met. Brunchen on the Friday night before the race was party central, especially on the track or walking to Hatzenbach at midnight and then through the forest to other areas before rolling into bed at 5am before getting up to see it finish. Magical weekend, very friendly everywhere See more..

  11. 4.5 Dom zu Worms (372 reviews)
    - Stunning!
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Dom zu Worms image
Lots of gorgeous art in this humongous church! So much history!! In 1016, Burchard of Worms built a Romanesque cathedral was built on the site. Parts of that cathedral still survive. Incredibly, this current, existing Dom St. Peter’s was built in sections from 1125 – 1181. Powerful events happened in this cathedral: The Concordat of Worms (1122), the marriage of Emperor Frederick II to Isabella of England (1235) and the Diet of Worms (1521) and this is where Martin Luther was condemned as a heretic. Salian princes were buried in the crypt (which you can walk around in) in the first half of the 11th century. A Baroque, gilded wood and marble, high altar by Balthasar Neumann was added to the cathedral in the 18th century. The north aisle contains five ‘Gothic tympana’ stone relief scenes, created in 1488 and 1515. The carving of these scenes is just an incredible sight to see. See more..
  12. 4.0 Loreley (354 reviews)
    - Sweet myth
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Loreley image
It's a beautiful spot in the first place, but the myth of the Loreley gives it something special. The river Rhine is deep and small and curvy, there, so difficult for ships. There is a large area on top of the hill with a parking, visitors center, restaurant, theatre and a myth path and a viewing balcony. Many things are still in planning, but it remains a nature spot and the main attraction is the view over the Rhine. You can sit there like the nymph herself. The place is more about contemplation and nature and not as commercial as others suggest. The access is easy by car. You can also climb the stairs from the waterfront (and the statue there). See more..
  13. 4.5 Dokumentationsstatte Regierungsbunker (312 reviews)
    - A relict of the cold war
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Speciality Museums • Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Dokumentationsstatte Regierungsbunker image
As I am very fond of bunkers and have already seen the east-german counterpart I was very excited to see this piece of history myself. The exhibited parts consist of the first 200m of a former train tunnel which was later used as a federal bunker. The doors are quiete impressive and the security measurements taken are amazing. We got to see the equipment used to provide a safe environment for about 3000 people starting with food and health care to bedrooms and laboratories to test the water quality. Unfortunately all exhibits are drawn together and set up in places that are not the orginial places. This is the only drawback in this bunker experience eversthings else was quiete interesting. The entrance fee for an adult was 10 Euros and the photo permisson was another 2,50 Euros. Make sure to take warm clothes with you even on a hot summers day! It was worth a visit even though I had expected more. See more..
  14. 4.0 Burgruine-Landshut (221 reviews)
    - Walk the “Burgberg Rundweg” to the castle
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Burgruine-Landshut image
From the mainroad in Bernkastel-Kues you can find a 2 km dirt path up to the castle and back again. There are small signposts all the way, so it’s easy to follow the path. Take the Burgberg Rundweg counter clockwise. Then the steepest part of the dirt path will be up hill. Downhill it will be easier, don’t worry. Entrance to the lower part of the castle is free. If you want to climb the tower you’ll have to pay. The views from the castle over Bernkastel-Kues and surroundings are magnificent. See more..
  15. 4.5 Kirschgarten (203 reviews)
    - A medieval treasure
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Kirschgarten image
Wow! These buildings are really something worth seeing. So many half timber houses were destroyed over the years, it’s a treat to see them whenever you can. They are so well-kept it’s hard to believe they are nearly 600 years old. If you’ve only seen replicas (like at Disney, German-themed restaurants…) then these are definitely worth a visit. You can’t tour inside, so it is a quick trip but they are off a nice little street full of shopping and cafes and not far from the cathedral, so there’s plenty to do nearby. See more..
  16. 4.5 Altportel (195 reviews)
    - Roman Gate - Lots of Stairs - Totally Worth It!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Altportel image
We have visited Speyer three times now and climbing the Altportel has become a must. Yes, there are a lot of stairs, but there are interesting rooms to stop in along the way if you need to catch your breath. Besides, this is one of the tallest Roman gate towers in Germany, so you have to expect some stairs. The incredible, commanding views of Speyer and the surrounding Rhineland Palatinate make it totally worth the climb. Bring a bretzel from the kiosk below and a water bottle (or a beer) from Rewe (grocery store) and hang out for a while. I love Speyer and the Altportel is our place to drink it all in. I can't wait to do it again. Be sure to look out for the ancient graffiti carved into the walls and please do not add your own. See more..
  17. 4.0 Rathaus (137 reviews)
    - Fabulous place
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Rathaus image
We visited the main Square of Cochem over the Christmas holiday. The Rathaus was a beautiful building . Also in the square was the amazing Rathaus cafe, where we had hot chocolate & cake. The Black Forest Gateaux was delicious as was the Apple cake. The display of cake was superb. See more..
  18. 4.0 Judenpforte am Marktplatz (134 reviews)
    - Nothing reminds of the ancient past
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Judenpforte am Marktplatz image
It is the center of the city – if you walk from Porta Nigra to Hauptmarktplatz, on the right, a little short, between Judengasse and Jakobstrasse you see the quarter that, over eight centuries ago, was the Jewish quarter and into which was led the Jewish gate. The quarter was densely built, although it seemed to have some square. The existence of the neighborhood in which there were about fifty Jewish houses and where, of course, there was a synagogue, lasted just a century. The Jews were expelled from Trier, and when allowed to settle back, it has happened without binding to a specific area of the city. Now here is the realm of catering and shopping, and now nothing reminds of the ancient past. See more..

  20. 4.5 Luther Monument (122 reviews)
    - A Martin Luther 2021-program in Worms is coming up!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Luther Monument image
Martin Luther is the one who made 1521 in the "Reichstag zu Worms" clear, that the Reformation is so important that it is worth to give his life for... fortunately he has had a friend called Kurfürst Friedrich der Weise from Saxony. He brought him to the Wartburg (close to Eisenach) and saved his life this way. In Worms Luther did not refuse his books but defended them and took the bible literally.. see more in Wittenberg and Eisenach, which is in the eastern part of Germany. See more..

  22. 4.5 Klosterruine Limburg (109 reviews)
    - Historical ... from 1050
Sunday: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Klosterruine Limburg image
Wow, to walk through history from 1050 was pretty amazing! For such an old place, it's in decent shape (sure, they ARE ruins) and you can get a good feel for what the monastery was like 1000 years ago. I cheated and drove up to the kloster (after hiking below/around). It's worth the effort to hike up. Go across from the kloster for the best view of the entire building. See more..
  23. 4.0 Bitburger Erlebniswelt (102 reviews)
    - Bitburger tour
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Breweries
    Bitburger Erlebniswelt image
Excellent tour it was only in German over the winter months. I researched and found on all of the stands where you push the silver button it will be in German on the post at the back near the bottom there is a little button you push and it will all be in English. We had the whole place to ourselves in January lots of snow too. There is free parking just across the street for 2 hours. Beer to try at the end of the tour with free vouchers for more around town in certain restaurantserves and bars so basically a free tour if you use your vouchers. Glad we did it love the little town. 24. 4.0 Kurfürstliches Schloss (102 reviews)
    - A great visit by Cable Car.

    Kurfürstliches Schloss image
The cable ride over the Rhine, the wide open spaces of the Castle. The friendly people everywhere, and a maze of tunnels to explore. Did not have enough time to visit the whole, but one needs a full day and rested legs to explore it in entirety. Do not even think of missing this if you visit Koblenz See more..

  26. 4.5 St. Peter (82 reviews)
    - Rococo at its best.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    St. Peter image
With great pleasure we had a quick visit to this beautiful church. Rococo is as we know exceptionally ornamental and rich style sometimes creating a sensory overload in a modern spectator. This church is gorgeous with its well balanced interiors and a real esthetic fun to see. See more..
  27. 4.0 Wernerkapelle (78 reviews)
    - Story Solemn and Sad
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Religious Sites • Churches & Cathedrals
    Wernerkapelle image
Nothing as sadly beautiful as the ribbed and vaulted ruins of an old chapel. All the iconic wonders burned away leaving yet the soaring grace of stone upon stone... and here, the sour taste story of the supposed C17 jewish ritual murder of the young aryan boy, Werner, which had the chosen people once again exiled and slaughtered and their homes, shops and wealth 'appropriated' (sound familiar?) on just another phony pretext. When the Wernerkappele burned down in a later century, I like to think it was as much the shame which prevented the locals rebuilding. A doubly sad and beautiful ruin, it floats above the town's St Peter irche - a cautionary tale. See more..
  28. 4.0 Burg Landeck (76 reviews)
    - If you are in the area and love a good view, make time to visit.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Burg Landeck image
Clean and well-kept for a ruin. There is also a small museum you can enter for free (but there's a sign that encourages you to give a tip). Fantastic view, obviously. You can also buy food and beverages there. I would totally recommend coming here if you are in the area. You can also hike from here to Burgruine Madenburg, which is an equally charming ruin (where you can buy food and beverates, too). See more..
  29. 4.5 Salinental (76 reviews)
    - Excellent area for walks, relaxation & longer hikes
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Salinental image
The Salinental offers plenty of opportunities for walking & relaxation in a beautiful setting along the River Nahe between Bad Kreuznach and Bad Muenster. It gets its name from the 'Salinen' - large wooden frames packed with wooden branches over which salty water is run - the inhalation of the quasi-sea-air is deemed to have health benefits. There are also plenty of signed walking routes here too. We chose 'Tour Natur', which dips in and out of the ih can easily make you believe that you are in a much more exotic location. Highly recommended. See more..
  30. 4.0 Die Steipe (74 reviews)

  32. 4.0 Mainz Hauptbahnhof (63 reviews)
    - Busy Station
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings
    Mainz Hauptbahnhof image
The Hauptbahnhof in Mainz is quite a busy station. As well as long distance trains there are local services to many different nearby stations. There are many different shops on the concourse including a Starbucks and Nanu Nana as well as places to get snacks to eat. At the time I travelled it is law to wear a face covering on public transport so bear this in mind before boarding your train. I've been through the station a couple of times and on both occasions my train has been late. This just means you get to spend a bit more time in Mainz. If you are a rail fan you may enjoy spending time on this station as there is also a variety of freight trains going through as well. See more..
  33. 3.5 Deutsches Weintor (62 reviews)
    - Landmark in the "Südpfalz"
Sunday: 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Deutsches Weintor image
OK, it's a quite touristy place so you should avoid weekends and public holidays . During weekdays and in the evening it's a tranquil place. The neighboring restaurant has a big open air guestroom were you can enjoy modern local food or just a cup of coffee, tee, beer or, if course, vine. Then whole premises is administrated by the largest vine growers cooperative in Germany which is then owner of the vineshop. Quality of the vines is okay, but there is much more and better to discover in the village itself. Unlike at the private vinegrowers be noted that you have to pay for each tasting zip in that shop. As far as I remember the amount is redeemed when you purchase. On top of the gate you've got a good view on the Palatina vineyards and Alsace. Sometimes even the Black Forest is visible on the horizon. See more..

This nail colum is a weird thing. It was errected 1916 in the middle of the first world war in a charity event to collect money for the german soldiers, which needed warm winter clothing and some extra food at the west front. So the good will of the people who came to buy a nail and to hammer it into the colum was used for an evil goal. See more..

If you are interested in history and specifically Jewish history, then this is a must. Just don't go on a Monday, since the Rashi House is closed then. This originally charitable complex was created in 15th century by a local bishop Nicholas of Cusa and included the St. Nikolaus-Hospital, church, vineyard and hospicium for old men. Amazingly it still serves the purpose of an old age home. It contains also a world-famous library and a wine museum. The grounds are manicured and spectacular. The monastery itself is lovely. It’s away from tourists and is like something out of the dark ages. Loved it.
