4.5Arp Museum(118 reviews) - Very well designed museum Sunday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Speciality Museums • Art Museums
Excellent museum! The nicest way to go there is to take the ferry from the opposite side of the Rhine coming from Konigswinter. Free parking space. The railway station (still in use) has the old museum building with a tunnel and impressive climb to the higher level of the new building by Richard Meier. Very clear, vast spaces, excellent displays, very well designed. Also, the art is coherent. Of course the work of Arp and Salvador Dali (also in the old building) but at the time of our visit there were tow fitting exhibitions, about dreams and visions (paintings and art form the Rau-Unicef collection) and large apocalyptic paintings by Jonas Burgert. They fitted in excellently with the Dada/Surrealist art. If you go from the old to the new building, leave the elevator and take the stairs. They are surrounded by fascinating use of concrete, for example decorative pillars, which are an art experience in themselves. This is how a museum visit should be.See more..
4.0Stadtmuseum Simeonstift(77 reviews) - Varied and interesting Sunday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Historic Sites • Art Museums
The City Museum Simeonstift in Trier shows art and cultural treasures from the Middle Ages to well into the 21th century. The exhibition is founded on a collection of valuable donations made by well-known citizens of the city. The artefacts on display are divided into a variety of sections, including paintings, sculptures, arts and crafts, Coptic textiles, furniture and small Oriental plastic art forms. The focal point of the permanent exhibition revolves around the history of the city of Trier. Regularly changing special exhibitions are dedicated to Trier’s native artists or to topics associated with the city. The collection is housed in the Roman building of the Collegiate of St. Simeon, which originates from the 11th century and is directly adjacent to the Porta Nigra. Also worthy of note is the building itself, which boasts one of the oldest and rarely preserved two-storey cloisters. The admission price includes an audio guide (D/E/F/NL), also available as an audio guided tour for children (D).See more..
4.0Museum Boppard(30 reviews) - WWII 3rd Army Rhine River Crossing Marker Sunday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Art Museums • History Museums
Our museum has experienced many changes throughout its over one hundred-year residence in the Electoral Castle. One of the most sweeping changes involved refurbishing and restoring the building. Now complete, the castle and its history have been transformed into one of the main attractions, and have therefore moved into the focus of the exhibition. The City History Section presents excerpts from the history of Boppard in the late Middle Ages and the early modern era. Our extensive collection of the castle’s wooden furnishings also tells the tale of Michael Thonet, one of the city’s famous sons, who started out as a particularly imaginative craftsman and ended up creating a global company. The programme at our museum also includes regular temporary exhibitions and events looking into history and art.See more..
4.5Fondation Kubach-Wilmsen(14 reviews) - Great visit even when it is closed Spent < 1 hour Art Museums
We went when the museum was closed, but the entire outdoor sculpture garden is open. Due to the openings in the stone wall one can even go inside the walled off area. The lovely girls at Wein Hotel Schneider ensured us that it was ok. It is very easy to spend over an hour in the garden. A strange sense made me want to though and stroke the beautifull stones. Defenitely a must see, when in the area.See more..

This small, high quality museum is a must for fans of the Eighteenth-Century, Mozart, Schwetzingen, Mannheim or Carl Theodor. The porcelain is breathtaking, and the general collection a manageable insight into this most interesting corner of the Rhine. Nowhere else can you open the curtains onto this area of enlightenment Palatinate culture. Friendly welcoming staff, from whom much larger museum institutions could learn a lot.See more..

See more..
